* From attorney general candidate Tom DeVore’s Republican Day speech…
“You make me attorney general and if Kim Foxx won’t prosecute [arrestees], I will,” DeVore said to cheers from the crowd. “And she better get to prosecuting or we’ll figure out a way to prosecute her.”
Pretty bold statement right there. And prosecute her for what?
This isn’t Florida DeVore. Animal fertilizer like this will play well to the Chicago hating base, but people who prefer democracy would rather see voters make a decision about her future.
Perhaps Mr. DeVore mixed up prosecute and persecute. Easy enough mistake.
Especially for someone who sees shadows of persecution every time he turns around. Like he has a persecution complex or perhaps even fetish.

==And she better get to prosecuting==
Don’t forget convicting. Prosecuting don’t mean nothing if you can’t convict, Tom.
Remember all those lawsuits you lost about Covid?
I do think Foxx has been a very poor state’s attorney, but so what. She won in Cook County and that is that. DeVore is such a fool and doesn’t even understand the position he is running for. Raoul will win by a massive landslide.
For as many problems as Kim Foxx has had since becoming States Attorney, she at least knows the general role and responsibilities of the office she campaigned for and won. DeVore clearly has no idea what the Attorney General’s actual duties and powers are. The fact that he has convinced so many on the far right that he is good attorney would be funny if it weren’t so frightening.
- Louis G Atsaves - Friday, Aug 19, 22 @ 10:08 am:
Fox has been a disaster as the elected State’s Attorney for Cook County. Why not replace one disaster with another? What do the residents of Cook County have to lose at this point in time? Just asking.
The AG has no authority to prosecute arrestees in Cook County and certainly would be in no position to prosecute any states’ attorney in the absence of a crime and there’s no evidence that Foxx has committed one. So DeVore’s comments must be taken for what they are, a blatant dog whistle.
==Why not replace one disaster with another? What do the residents of Cook County have to lose at this point in time? Just asking.==
Well then Counselor DeVore should move to Cook County and run against her for States Attorney. Because it is not, and should not be, the role Attorney General to prosecute on at the County level. They’re not even the entity that steps in when the States Attorney is conflicted out. But to know that would require a basic knowledge of the daily functions and duties of the office.
The GOP in Cook County refuses to give alternatives to county races, or in the city.
When you think about the absolute and complete failure of a GOP where more ballots are cast in Cook for the GOP than anywhere and they still can’t field candidates that can make a campaign viable… that’s the story.
DeVore should ask himself why the GOP can’t make election inroads against unpopular incumbents.
To the post, specifically.
Old, angry, white, rural doesn’t need to clarify a quote like that. It’s not about the actual, it’s about the vitriol
did he support Pat O’Brien against Kim Foxx? just asking’ While she is straight up bad at her job, there was an election with a Republican challenger, so….
=Fox has been a disaster as the elected State’s Attorney for Cook County.=
I think that’s for the voters of Cook, not Lake County to decide. And those voters elected her twice. But it’s good to know that you’re behind DeVore because “how bad could it be?”
- Friendly Bob Adams - Friday, Aug 19, 22 @ 10:21 am:
I think Bailey should be thankful for this higher level of ugliness promoted by DeVore.
Maybe Mr Devore should ask the police the actually investigate the crimes so Foxx can actually have the evidence to win at trial. I think part of the problem is there is no way to win.
===What do the residents of Cook County have to lose at this point in time?===
Well, Devore is pretty explicitly promising to deprive them of their right to vote for a State’s Attorney. And he’s promising to do so through malicious, political prosecution. So I guess the answer to your question is “democracy and the rule of law.”
While that’s obviously a super inspiring slogan that will no doubt rally dozens to your banner, one eensy problem that you may not have clocked yet is that Tom DeVore is not running to replace Kim Foxx.
Oswego Willy is right. The Cook GOP doesn’t even try to put up real candidates. They allow the Democratic primary to be the only race, so of course the eventual office holder is extreme. Even if the GOP candidate can’t win, at least force the Dem primary winner to “earn” the general.

This is not a serious person. I would say that it was “hyperbole,” but I suspect he does not know what that word means.
I guess being attorney general in his mind allows him to make up laws and then prosecute people for violating these figments of his imagination. Selling this clap trap to uniformed persons should be against the law.
==That’s a lot to expect from a guy who thinks that having his lawsuits against the state over COVID restrictions dismissed as moot is a “victory”.==
There’s a lot of truth there. I expect some of the DeVore devotees will show up to vote, see that Kim Foxx is not the name on the ballot running against their hero, and believe that somehow means Kim Foxx already lost and it was because of Tom DeVore.
==Why not replace one disaster with another?==
Louis - you failed the test as commenter, and should take a week or two off. As others have noted, DeVore would need to run for Foxx spot, not run for AG to replace her. You’re right he is a disaster…that’s something I guess…
Well, he already said he was going to go after his fellow Republicans who didn’t support him. Why not a Democrat? We’ve all see what a buffoon this guy demonstrated himself to be during the pandemic. Why should he change his stripes now?
