The start of the new school year marks the 30th anniversary of our sojourn to the land of Chicago.
I’d never even visited Chicago before we moved here and we were only supposed to stay for three years, but as the great man said, “once you’ve come to be part of this particular patch, you’ll never love another.”
Life is good. The flowers, trees and the bees are everywhere. Our grandson had his last (we hope) chemo treatment last week and has left for college. We are counting our blessings and crossing our fingers for him and for the midterms. Hope and healing to everyone who is hurting.
Taking off next Wednesday for a very long Labor Day weekend to visit a friend in Georgia. We haven’t gotten together since 2019 due to the pandemic and her serious health problems that caused a move to an assisted living apartment. These days before the trip will be used to get my yard and other projects done before the trip by auto.
Since the DuQuoin State Fair is free, I’m debating on driving down there. I guess we all pay for this silly second state fair that loses unknown money, so why not check out what we’re paying for.
Football starts tonight in most places, some friendly reminders.
– The intentional grounding rules have changed, but it is still not as permissive as the college and NFL rules.
– For it to be a chop block, the low block doesn’t have to be at or below the knees anymore, just at or below the waist.
– Sportsmanship is a big focus this year, including the crowd, so do be that guy.
– Finally, the official shortage has not improved, so there is a chance you will have folks officiating games with less experience than you would see in years past.

==Since the DuQuoin State Fair is free==
Why does the Original State Fair cost $10 for admission (excluding parking) but yet DuQuoin’s is free?
Should there be legislation requiring a DuQuoin fair admission fee (even if it was cheaper than Springfield)–is there the 60-30-1 or 71-36-1 willing to support this? Maybe make parking free or have it come with your admission as a compromise (which is not the case in Springfield).

Another reminder, this time for Springfield and CS8 fans: Memorial Stadium is currently under construction. Hence Springfield High and Lanphier have moved their home games to Southeast’s field. Yes, Southeast did end up getting their football field built after all (IIRC that was one of the victims of Blago freezing capital funding).

Or you could see some games moved from Friday night to either Thursday night or Saturday. Athens had to move their season opener to last night due to the officials shortage.
Got a project finished this morning. Mrs is off on a day trip with one of her girl friends. So I’m planning on cleaning up the old cars today, and playing with them at two events tomorrow.

Happening up north as well. There are a couple of weeks around when schools have homecoming where it’s going to be tight since no one wants to move their games on those weeks.
It is one of my “gift articles, so it is not behind a pay wall.

DuQuoin is quite lovely and a neat place to camp out or bring an RV. You would never guess it was a reclaimed strip mine. We’ll worth a visit if you’ve never been. DQSF is a major economic engine down there, many people in the area make the major part of their annual income from it in some way.

Preparing every and any news dumps I have for today.
You have bad news? Today is a good day.
High school football, “Friday Night Lights”… that’s going on in the Hamlet, talk of college football…
I might even get a pumpkin latte?
Too soon?

It’s been a week in this little corner.
The s.o. had a fever last Wednesday night, stayed home from work Thursday, got diagnosed with covid Friday.
I got diagnosed Monday.
We’ve both taken paxlovid, and had fun watching heart rates from 85-105 on the O2 sensor.
It could have been worse, but I also would be happy to have not been sick at all.
Really dreading going back to work Monday…

Beautiful morning but seeing the scores, wishing I had watched the Chiefs beat the Packers vs. the what the what Sox.
