Unclear on the concept

* NBC 5…
Darren Bailey, Republican candidate for governor, was asked what he would do if he were Illinois governor and busloads of migrants arrived here.
Bailey responded that he would ask “J.B. Pritzker to talk to Joe Biden and secure our border, because if we have secure borders we don’t have this problem.”
That reads almost like a comedy sketch. He’d ask his defeated predecessor to talk to the president?
To be fair, Bailey did eventually manage to get in a Hyatt zinger…
“They’re exhausted, bewildered by all they’re faced with,” Pritzker said, “having made multiple months journeys to come to the United States, being shipped all across the U.S.”
Bailey says, “as far as J.B. Pritzker is concerned, I’m suggesting that he put these people up in one of his Hyatt hotels.”
“These people.”

You could almost read it like he knows he’s got no shot and will go back to being a backbencher in the Senate shortly.

===as far as J.B. Pritzker is concerned===
Bailey can’t even see them as people independent of his campaign, much less as constituents. His worldview is totally depraved.

== “These people.” ==
In the words of the late, great Maya Angelou: when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

The E-Van-Gel-Eye-Cal… “these people”
The man can’t quote scripture correctly, or accurately for that matter, and sees his fellow man… as less.
Bailey literary tells you how he feels about non-white people at every opportunity… who exactly thinks She-Caw-Go needs an “ambassador”… someone who can’t relate to persons of color. But, Bailey says he’ll have one as governor.
Bailey might as well say, as Trump referenced, non-European immigrants are likely from “(blank)holes”… to complete the whole “holes” imagery the old, angry, white, rural folks “like him… we’ll, they see.
See *you* in church, Bailey.

“talk to Joe Biden and secure our border”
I thought Trump secured the border with that wall American tax dollars built, that Mexico was supposed to pay for. /s

Nope. Bailey loses, he’s out.
What Bailey *is* doing is quadrupling down to grift off his televangelist Facebook grifting if he loses.
Bailey, Bourne, Demmer, Brady… they all could he gone.. Bourne is already a lame duck
- Huh? - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:04 am:
Fortify the northern border, we are being invaded by cheese heads. The illegal aliens are storming the eastern border, overwhelming the small communities along the Wabash River. Quincy has fished hundreds of people trying to swim the Mississippi River from Missouri. Meanwhile, Paducah has fortified the US 24 bridge to stop the annexation attempts from Kentucky.

Do we expect anything less from a guy who got rich being paid not to farm?

“these people”. and he calls himself a man of god.
vote accordingly.
- Crispy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:12 am:
It’s weird. I just did a quick Bible search and came up with over 100 verses with specific instructions to treat “these people”–refugees (a.k.a. “soujourners”)–like your own, to help and provide for them, and not to oppress them or turn them away. And yet, Bailey doesn’t seem to know that.
So much for his much-vaunted faith. Religion is just a political prop for guys like him.
- OneMan - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:26 am:
The thing is, there was an answer that would have worked.
“I would ask those governors not to engage in these stunts, I don’t think moving folks across the country to score political points is a good use of taxpayer funds.
Immigration is a complex issue with complex solutions, and cheap stunts that waste taxpayer money are not the answer.”
It plays to him being a ‘good steward’ of taxpayer funds and doesn’t make the folks being transported the ‘bad guys’.
That is the answer that works for him vs. this steaming pile.

To be fair, Bailey grew up in a different time as well. /s
- Jerry - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:31 am:
I agree. During the open of the Bears-Packers game they showed alot of “these people” with their Aaron Rogers trying to infiltrate from the brat stop. Bus-em to Minneapolis.
- Langhorne - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:34 am:
Um, Darren… If the remedy is to have JB call JB, then why do we need you?

===Bailey responded that he would ask “J.B. Pritzker to talk to Joe Biden and secure our border, because if we have secure borders we don’t have this problem.===
Wait, are you saying Bailey is not a practical problem solver?
- NIU Grad - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:37 am:
If we had a “secure border” we would still have people asking for asylum. Bailey would prefer we just turn them away.
- cermak_rd - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:42 am:
I think the best laugh we can have at the southern Governors is to integrate the asylum seekers into our communities and allow them to contribute to our state’s population (ergo representation) and workforce.
- Norseman - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:43 am:
OneMan offers up a reasonable and humane response. The problem is that goes against Bailey and the MAGA GOP’s character.
- Socially DIstant watcher - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:44 am:
“The concept,” for Bailey, is to always in every way be throwing shade at Democrats. He’s right on script.
- Arsenal - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:46 am:
What does “secure the border” even mean? The migrants are in the U.S. legally.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:48 am:
===The problem is that goes against Bailey and the MAGA GOP’s character.===
Ball game.
- OneMan - is on the reality to what should be, - Norseman - reiterates “what is”
Pain, racism, phony “Christianity”, that’s the hallmark of Trumpian politics. Can’t decide to be a person who’s rational *and* embrace Trumpkin ideals.
You both showed the what and why…. The red hand is the payoff/grift to being so callous… if Bailey loses.
The money at the end is the driving idea, not the political thought to any ideal.
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:49 am:
-because if we have secure borders we don’t have this problem-
The refugees in question didn’t sneak in. They presented themselves for asylum from a Marxist dictatorship. Does Darren Bailey not want people to flee Marxist dictatorships seeking freedom?
- David Agnew - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:54 am:
Well said, OneMan.
- Da big bad wolf - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:56 am:
Besides the “tell” that JB would still be in power, doesn’t Bailey have his branches of government mixed up? The President isn’t above the law. The current US refugee laws have been in place since 1967. He would have to go ask Congress to change the law, not go to the President.
- halving_fun - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 9:57 am:
Freudian slip
- Chris - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 10:02 am:
I really don’t want to “be fair” to DB, but “these people” as a phrase can have a non-pejorative meaning, and so it’s about context and (imo, mostly) tone. I’m not inclined to give DB the benefit of the doubt, but still.
For those who would disagree that there is a neutral usage, I would point you to this Amnesty International page that uses “these people” neutrally and specifically in the context of refugees:
https://www.amnesty.org/en/what-we-do/refugees-asylum-seekers-and-migrants/
- XonXoff - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 10:03 am:
Maybe he intends to keep JB on retainer as a consultant/comms guy.

=== can have a non-pejorative meaning===
Yeah, well, he’s done it before. https://capitolfax.com/2022/09/01/bailey-campaign-comments-on-migrants-bused-to-chicago/
- DownStateGrl - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 10:08 am:
Maybe focus his next FB Live morning devotional on ‘Truly whatever you did to the least of these you did unto me….’
- Publius - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 10:19 am:
Perhaps Mr Bailey as a Christian should have said that he would help find a home and a job for these people. Guess he missed church the day the pastor had a sermon on the good Samaritan.
- Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 10:23 am:
Bailey never has, can’t and won’t get past talking like he dropped in to the local diner in 5:30 AM to say Hey to the farmers and good old boys who spend their mornings there solving the problems of the world.
- Homebody - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 10:54 am:
Vocally and loudly self-professed Christian person actively flouting Christ’s teachings about how to treat your fellow man? Just throw it on the pile with the rest.

“Bailey responded that he would ask ‘J.B. Pritzker to talk to Joe Biden and secure our border, because if we have secure borders we don’t have this problem.’”
Matthew 25:41-45 (emphasis added)
Seems like Mr. Bailey is unclear on multiple concepts.

- Friendly Bob Adams - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 11:15 am:
Not to be too picky, but I believe the correct usage is “those people”….
- allknowingmasterofraccoondom - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 11:40 am:
I keep asking - how did Bailey get elected in the first place? This election cannot be over fast enough for the republicans. Every single second this goof represents the party is like a hammer coming down on the last nails of the coffin.
- Benjamin - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 12:07 pm:
There’s so much to unpack here that Rich should have titled this entry “Unclear on *every* concept.”
- Pundent - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 1:40 pm:
Make no mistake because Bailey’s comments are clear. He’s opposed to immigration even in instances where it is perfectly legal. It’s the only logical conclusion.
- ArchPundit - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 2:09 pm:
For the umpteenth time, securing the border will not stop these particular folks from entering the US as they are asylum seekers and here legally.
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 2:50 pm:
-He’s opposed to immigration even in instances where it is perfectly legal. It’s the only logical conclusion.-
He might make exceptions for white people, though, and if his farm needs help.

At MrJM, ok point taken. But bailey never said he was a good christian. Just christian, but not that kind.
= put these people up in one of his Hyatt hotels.”=
Great zinger if you were not a candidate for governor of the 5th largest state in America. He is not a serious candidate.
=“J.B. Pritzker to talk to Joe Biden and secure our border, because if we have secure borders we don’t have this problem.”=
So he doesn’t know that the guy who wouldn’t be governor anymore would have no power? When asked he still does not know what HE would do? He is literally too dumb to be governor.
- Chris - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 3:53 pm:
‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’
Note that there is an implied ‘people’ after ‘these’.
Perhaps DB’s subconscious is calling out WWJD, and he’s just not hearing it.
I doubt it, but it’s possible.
- Pundent - Tuesday, Sep 20, 22 @ 4:33 pm:
=He is literally too dumb to be governor.=
His responses are Pavlovian. He hasn’t given any thought to immigration or those legally seeking asylum. He simply knows that his base will respond favorably if when asked about a problem he says “Biden.”
