*** UPDATED x1 *** Bill Foster’s opponent Catalina Lauf revives old, completely debunked “litter boxes in schools” rumor

Monday, Oct 3, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller

* CD11 Republican nominee…

Debunked here, but the Google can be your friend, so click here for local stories. Here’s just one

Marion Unit 2 school board president Joe Bleyer addressed recent bizarre social-media rumors that the district was adding litter boxes to the restrooms for students who wished to dress up in animal costumes.

“Apparently there is some sensation that we are going to have litter boxes in our bathrooms,” Bleyer said. “I can assure you of two things. One, the Illinois Department of Public Health and two, the Illinois plumbing code do not allow for non-functioning restrooms.

“So regardless of what you see on social media, litter boxes are not coming to Marion Unit 2 schools.”

How goofy do you have to be to believe this nonsense? It’s just so silly and downright stupid

A Nebraska state lawmaker apologized on Monday after he publicly cited a persistent but debunked rumor alleging that schools are placing litter boxes in school bathrooms to accommodate children who self-identify as cats.

That was in March.

An attempt at an explanation for this phenomenon is here.

Get off Facebook.

…Also, if she takes it down after work hours, the screen shot is here.

*** UPDATE *** Weak game…

I don’t know which is scarier- candidates and politicians that say crazy lies, or candidates and politicians who actually believe the crazy.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 3:47 pm:

If you’re voting or supporting someone who believes litter boxes and children are actually happening…

… congratulations, you are an in-law uncle.

  3. - Norseman - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 3:48 pm:

That the MAGA GOP has not disavowed these loony candidates is additional evidence of the danger that party poses to this country.

  4. - Ron Burgundy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 3:50 pm:

Ms. Lauf — Name one school. Just one.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 3:53 pm:

Lauf, for all practical purposes is an ATM to some consultants that use *her* as a mechanism to get a fool and their money parted, and these consultants take that foolish money from Lauf for “safe keeping with fees”

The litter box bit could be worth a big payday, but not much more.

  6. - Henry Francis - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 3:53 pm:

She’s not talking about Full Armor Christian Academy, is she?

  7. - Lagertha's Shield - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 3:53 pm:

I hear this rumor at least once a week about schools here in the Bloc. No matter how badly some candidates want this to be true so they can rip on public schools even more, it just isn’t.

  8. - Demoralized - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 3:57 pm:

How can people be this stupid? It’s unbelievable to me how anyone can support people like this.

  9. - Ron Burgundy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:02 pm:

-She’s not talking about Full Armor Christian Academy, is she?-

Well sure, there, but they are for the dinosaurs that walk among us. /s

  10. - Roadrager - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:02 pm:

I’m just going to pull a couple of favorites from Ms. Lauf’s replies.

“It’s true(.) My neighbor’s cousin’s wife’s uncle’s grandson is a teacher in Illinois and says that the children also chase the red dot from his laser pointer in science class.”

“CATalina huh? And we’re just all supposed to act like we don’t notice???????”

I don’t know if it’s worse that people running for elected office are legitimately this stupid, or if they have just decided that the people who will most likely vote for them are.

  11. - Nearly Normal - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:04 pm:

Yikes! REALLY? Guess they think anything is true if they read/see it on the Internet. Scares me to think what else they believe. Maybe they are down in Dallas waiting for JFK Jr.

  12. - JS Mill - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:17 pm:

=Ms. Lauf — Name one school. Just one.=

They always KNOW somebody who says it is happening, but NONE of them ever have observed it themselves.

We are a small district and people know everyone and I still have to debunk this time and again. Not all of them are kooks either. Some are nice people that have been fed a lot of nonsense by the radical right. It is really sad.

To one parent I shared a scenario of a student using a litter box and what must happen for a student to do that (use the litter box) and can you imagine your child doing that? They could not, and then started to see the light a bit.

    The whole thing is absurd.

I know actual teachers who have echoed this rumor (“the morning DJ said a school in Michigan does it”). I take a heavy breath and show them Snopes.
A downstate colleague said his school banned headbands with cat ears on them because of this litter box nonsense.

    ===She deleted the tweet.===

Maxed out on the cash, took heat, cut bait.

    “She deleted the tweet.”

Of course she did. Owing to this article, I don’t need to fire up the way back machine. Thanks Rich.

  18. - TheInvisibleMan - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:47 pm:

    –She deleted the tweet.–

Not yet she didn’t. It’s not on her profile as a tweet, it’s a reply to a tweet.

  19. - Baloneymous - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:49 pm:

Invisible man, you are right, I didn’t scroll far enough down Andrew’s tweet. Thanks for catching and correcting.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:53 pm:

    I’ll be… it’s still up.

Must be more cash to grab

  22. - Baloneymous - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 4:55 pm:

It has over 200 comments, some are a pretty good laugh.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:07 pm:

    ===so, choices, would say some….

    Hmm…

“If you’re still think Lauf is an actual “choice” or you still contemplate supporting someone who believes litter boxes and children are actually happening…

… congratulations, you are an in-law uncle.”

  27. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:18 pm:

I dunno if citing a Proft rag is a good look either…

“Lauf” is designed to be a good pass thru for consultants. She’s doing that well.

  29. - JS Mill - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:19 pm:

I will note that she named exactly zero when she had the chance.

Among many, many other things going on here, is she demanding you respect her “mama bear” fursona?

  31. - Anon324 - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:21 pm:

When I was a kidz they had kitty litter in schools because they used it to clean up vomit, a not-infrequent event, especially in elementary school. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was still used for that purpose, and to that end, I anticipate someone taking a picture of kitty litter in a custodian closet as “proof.”

  32. - Leap Day William - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:29 pm:

It’s true! She heard all about it from the same best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend that heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night.

    It’s pretty serious.

  33. - Dirty Red - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:37 pm:

I mean, she cites the Daily Her…err, DuPage Policy Journal. That’s how you know it’s legit.

  34. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:41 pm:

    She’s still tweeting.

    Take the L already, “Lauf”

  35. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:44 pm:

The last thing you wanna be is a “Lauf-ing-stock” muppet candidate for your consultants.

    Yet, there she is.

  36. - illini - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 5:49 pm:

If Dan Proft stands behind the authenticity and accuracy of all his papers this must be true, Right?

  37. - Narc - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 6:45 pm:

Yeah, this nonsense is all over my local Facebook groups as well. Apparently, it’s happening in Mahomet and Tuscola too, dont’cha’know?

Of course, they’re also full of racist trolls and sock-puppet accounts, so I’m half-inclined to believe this is someone just trying to get people riled up.

  38. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 7:12 pm:

Unless someone gives me a name of an actual school…

  39. - Narc - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 7:12 pm:

=== I am a teacher in Boone County and this is happening. ===

    Bull. Name the school.

  40. - JS Mill - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 7:37 pm:

=I am a teacher in Boone County and this is happening.=

No it is not,if it really was you would name the school.

My district is just down the road from Boone County, we would know if it was happening.

= When evidence surfaces, can she sue you for this type of defamation?=

Maybe talk to awake il and see if you can get number of their attorney.

Is she implying that she’s OK with mothers identifying as bears? /s

  45. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 9:37 pm:

There are also Boone Counties in Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Nebraska (thanks Wikipedia).

Of those states, I feel like Illinois is the least likely to have a litter box for the kids in one of the local schools. So the question becomes: In which state does Anonymous (7:06 pm) teach?

  46. - Candy Dogood - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 10:00 pm:

Some days I feel like the string quartet on the Titanic playing some nice music as we go down until the inevitable cause of our demise prevents me from being able to play on. It’s things like this that make me feel that way.

  47. - AlfondoGonz - Monday, Oct 3, 22 @ 11:08 pm:

I heard about a Republican candidate for Congress who identifies as someone who should be taken seriously.

    Talk about far fetched.

Gee, I sure hope that “Catalitter Lauf” doesn’t stick as some kind of nickname.

That would be a real bummer.

Our litter box is lined with Profts propaganda. When Lauf sends out mailers they will be used for the same purpose. See, those items are helpful

    The state of confusion.

Notes to Catalina: 1) Proft papers are not “news” and are not valid sources. 2) The article cited has nothing about kitty litter in school bathrooms. Final grade: F
