A quick, but sincere note of thanks
Wednesday, Jan 18, 2023 - Posted by Rich Miller * A comment last night on our Afternoon roundup nearly floored me… That commenter gets a lot of grief on this-here blog, but I did want to express my thanks. I’ve received some very positive feedback from several others about our morning/afternoon roundup posts as well. Multi-topic posts don’t normally generate a lot of online comments, but I think the roundups are a service. Before I brought Isabel into the fold, I wasn’t posting some stories because they weren’t quite worthy of their own stand-alone posts. So, thanks to all! * As an aside, some groupchat friends and I were discussing the name “Emanuel ‘Chris’ Welch” the other day. The House Speaker talked about the origin of his first name during his inaugural address. We moved on to joking about what our “names” would be. After attending several inauguration-week events with my new associate last week, I decided my new name is “Rich ‘Oh my goodness, is that Isabel?’ Miller.” Heh. My niece is really quite something. Here we are at the governor’s ball…

Isabel has been a great addition to the Fax.
You can see the pride you have in her
She does a great job too
Looking good in the Tux too my friend
- Back to the Future - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:29 am:
Agree with LP.

I don’t envy you having to strike the balance between posts that do the most to inform and posts that generate the most comments. And then add in figuring out what should be saved for subscribers, too.

This. All day.
I can’t tell ya how many times, even a day, I’ll go to these posts, and the “live feed” too, but these posts are *everything* to “one stop shopping” and getting such a much wider scope of what’s going on, and later in the afternoon “what you may have missed”
- Lucky Pierre - is so right.
Thank you Isabel. Keep rolling.

OK, there’s something you never said before. lol

Isabel is a great addition. She is a fabulousperson. BTW, looking pretty stylin’ in the tux Rich

New year, new things. Isabel brings posts (and commenters) together.
:)
- H-W - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:37 am:
It is always good to be able to put a face to a name. Good to meet you, Isabel.
And yes. The morning and afternoon roundups are already my favorite source for news. Thank you for these, Isabel, and for the diversity of interests you present in each.
- Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:37 am:
===pretty stylin’ in the tux===
I bought it for Rod’s 2007 inaugural ball. Can’t believe it has held up so long and that it still fits lol
- Dysfunction Junction - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:39 am:
I agree that Isabel is a great addition. Her ability to curate these stories and bring information forward that we would never seek out on our own is a big service to your readership. Nice balance of “need to know” and “glad I know now.”
- Bruce( no not him) - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:39 am:
She is dong an outstanding job.
Also noticed Rich gets an edit button. It’s good to be king.
- Jerry - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:40 am:
I appreciate all that you do. And thanx for taking the time to spotlight “LP”.
- So_Ill - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:41 am:
Guilty of a “oh my goodness, is that Isabell?” at the Ball.
- Amalai - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:41 am:
Hi there, Isabel (banned punctuation). So much good info from you, yep, totally great. Rich, you clean up real good (again, banned).
- Rabid - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:52 am:
Thanks saves a lot of time, like a mini drudge report for Illinois. The Isabel report?
- thunderspirit - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 9:55 am:
Lucky Pierre and I rarely agree, but we certainly do on this.
Isabel has been a grand addition.
- JS Mill - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 10:02 am:
Sometimes the source of information is inconvenient, but still needs to be acknowledged when they are right. Isabel is much appreciated and doing a splendid job.
You clean up well Rich. Also, and I will just leave this here, green is the color preferred by geniuses.
- Blue Bayou - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 10:14 am:
She’s a great addition, Rich.
And I hope you know how valuable you are to this state.
- JR - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 10:23 am:
She’s a breath of fresh air. Thanks for the round up. It’s a good addition to the blog. Keep up the great work, Isabel.
- Barton Lorimor - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 10:23 am:
“Capitol Fax” is synonymous with the Miller family.
- JoanP - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 10:33 am:
I, too, am shocked to find myself in agreement with LP, but when you’re right, you’re right. Isabel is a fantastic addition to Capitol Fax.
And I really like the morning and afternoon briefings. I almost always find stories in them that I haven’t seen before.
- Proud Sucker - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 10:42 am:
I cannot imagine how difficult it is to be a human aggregator. It is easy for the sites that have an automated process.
The thing about multi-post topics not generating many comments is: you never know. Some, seemingly innocuous, story has the chance of catching the attention of a CapFax reader and starting a great conversation.
Keep up the great work Isabel.

For Once:
Picture of old guy with young lady , and it really is his “niece”.
( briefings are a big plus - keep them coming)
- Ares - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:01 am:
Isabel’s roundup is my first source of news every day, and I will recommend it to my jr college students, too. Great job!
- up2now - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:04 am:
Capitol Fax has become Illinois’ local newspaper.
- Bruce( no not him) - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:11 am:
Quick, Isabel, now is the time to ask for a raise.
- Big Tent - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:11 am:
You look awesome!
Rich…you clean up pretty good too…
- Annonin' - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:17 am:
A raise and keys to the boat and condo and…
It seems like we should be concerned the Mr/Ms LP suffered a serious head injury on his way to being right.
- Boone’s is Back - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:26 am:
You guys look great!
- Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:35 am:
Rich looks dapper and Isabel is lovely.
- Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 11:46 am:
No head injury that I know of and a bit surprised by the reaction to a simple compliment.
I have done the same to you too Rich about the fairness of your posts.
Some of the usual suspect commenters who can’t handle any dissent and try to put their words in my mouth are another story but I wear their ire with a sense of pride.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 12:13 pm:
===who can’t handle any dissent and try to put their words in my mouth===
Even trying to graciously accept a compliment… you’re a victim.
(Sigh)
Also, you both look sharp at the inaugural (banned punctuation)
A tuxedo is an investment and if it holds up it’s worth even more every time you wear it…
- Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 12:30 pm:
Again you can quit me anytime instead of lashing out at opinions many, many Republicans share.
After all you used to be one before you started blindly supporting the self described “most progressive Governor”
No head injuries for you I am sure
- thisjustinagain - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 12:42 pm:
By all means, YES to the summaries (banned punctuation). They come in handy getting a quick read on things happening far and wide when a deep dive just takes longer than someone has.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 12:45 pm:
===instead of lashing out at opinions many, many Republicans share.===
Speak for yourself, or you indeed supported Bailey as you agreed with many, many, of his policies, (and I can show ya)
===started blindly supporting the self described “most progressive Governor”===
Over the Mary Millers, the “Eastern Bloc”, the Tom DeVore’s you touted… pretty easy to see I don’t identify with those types as you embrace them and all that bad.
Still, you are indeed so right about Isabel.
:)

==Capitol Fax has become Illinois’ local newspaper==
Agree with this. Sad for the local papers that have died, not sad for the blog.
And I agree Isabel’s contributions are a great addition to the site. Keep up the great work and all this will be yours someday /s
- Dave Dahl - Wednesday, Jan 18, 23 @ 2:40 pm:
Add my voice to the chorus re Isabel! Have enjoyed getting to know her in the press box.

Isabel’s roundups are a big help in staying informed on many issues that may be overlooked. Thanks!!!
