Carbondale police reported a non-fatal shooting of a juvenile following a confrontation with other juvenile acquaintances yesterday. Only a block or two from the middle school.
We really need to get guns out of our communities. Not just assault weapons. When middle/high-school students shooting each other isn’t practically unheard of in this country, something has gone deeply and morally wrong.
I’m trying to wrap my mind around why Patrick Joyce spent $2.7 million (plus $53,400 in-kind) to beat an opponent who spent $4,500 (plus $20,000 in-kind).
First day of face-to-face classes with students. I always love this day! First-year students are so optimistic - so hopeful.

The recent resurgence of the Illini basketball team has been quite fun to watch. They still have stretches of careless play, but have been finishing games well.
Kind of takes one’s mind off the total disintegration of the Blackhawks…

If you like college basketball in Illinois, you should know the name Marcus Domask.
Scored 32 last night and is quickly moving up the list of all-time leaders for scoring and assists at SIU.
Salukis are 15-5 and tied for the lead in the Missouri Valley.
*Honorable mention shout out for Evanston Township’s Lance Jones who similarly makes things happen for the resurgent Salukis.
SIUE basketball is off to a great start. I was a student when they made the transition to D-1 and wasn’t supportive of the idea at the time. In hindsight, it’s looking like a pretty good move.

Even though people seem to be back to pre-COVID activity levels, I still see so many places in B-N are still having massive staffing issues - from restaurants to gas stations to grocery stores. Is it like that everywhere in the state or just my neck of the woods?
Mr/Ms MF you might also tell the Capt Fax fanbase that Troy D’Amico a Chicagoan who went to Nile Notre Dame had a career high (12) last night too.
Go Dawgs
The suspense over what the Chicago Bears will do with their number draft pick is killing me.
Surely, they are keeping Fields so that means they can/should/will trade away their top spot to a qb hungry team - the question to me is what will that yield? More draft picks? Players?
Will this all bring about a team that actually wins?
Teams at 2, 3, and 4 all need QBs. In an 🐻 deal trade the Bears extract as much draft capital as possible while still taking one of the top two DLs. It’s a nice position to be in. Thanks, Lovie.
Some of the best college basketball is found in The Valley.
It’s great when the Illinois schools in The Valley play well, and are making real noise.

Nope; it’s in the Southeast burbs of Cook County as well. Help Wanted signs and banners up for over a year for some retail and service jobs; few takers (or new hires staying) even as minimum wage continues to increase. Some places are running their few employees all over the place trying to stay open, let alone stock or provide timely service.

1) I’d rather be paranoid than dead.
2) You can’t take it with you.
3) In the spring, things looked bleak for Dems.
