Illinois basketball is on my mind.
Close game between Illinois State and Bradley U.
Not sure how long different Illinois university rivals have been going on, but at 134 games in 118 years ISU and BU have to be near the top. These schools first played each other in 1905 with ISU winning 39 to 13.
Braves won the last game in OT, but overall numbers of wins for the schools are about even.
Good to see places where student athletes can compete, get a very good education and graduate.
Good mayoral forum last night in Springfield with incumbent Jim Langfelder and current city treasurer Misty Buscher. They definitely have different ideas of how to move Springfield forward. If you’re interested: https://www.wmay.com/show/jimleach/
Sox and Clevinger. How did MLB not tell the Sox? How did the Sox not find out about the allegations against him? Team was making progress but this is quite disturbing.
Can we get the Ford EV plant that Virginia just rejected?

Tough call on the Clevinger thing. If MLB tells teams that a player is “under investigation” that would limit his playing options even if he is eventually not charged with any offense. This seems like something the union would need to agree to.
On the other hand, if Clevinger is found to have committed the offense and is punished by the league, should the Sox then be off the hook for the contract?

The folks in Normal who hired Tom Devore to sue the town when they were denied spots on the ballot after filing for non-existent or appointed positions had their lawsuit dismissed yesterday.
To add on… 18 of those counties, which we could call the Greater Eastern Bloc, collectively had greater tax expenditures than tax revenues. Even by some miracle they were allowed to secede and form a new state they would need to come up with significantly more tax revenue. I doubt they could trim expenditures by 40%.

A local blogger who was supportive of the lawsuit has shared info on Tom Devore’s fees and is seeking donations to help the plaintiffs pay them off.

Wish they would crowdfund for the fees the taxpayers forced to fend off meritless lawsuits against the town.

The 27 counties that have voted to explore secession *put together* have under 4% of the population and had, as of 2021, under 3% of statewide GDP.
I say good luck to them in forming a new state. I’ll get the popcorn.

Snow is gone except for the snowmen kids built. Didn’t have to shovel at all. That was nice.

It would be a good idea. Perhaps Ford could repurpose the Belvidere plant site. Time for Pritzker to be calling Ford to market the idea.
