Consistent, they are not
Wednesday, Feb 15, 2023 - Posted by Rich Miller * From an October story about then-Sen. Darren Bailey’s gubernatorial campaign…
* Today, however, Darren Bailey is demanding that somebody else fully disclose their personal health details…
Ridic.

We think this is about the whacks wantin’ to blame Covid vaccines on the heart condition right? They should shift to blames the fashion industry to dressing their idol MTG to look like a furry TelaTubby.
- Henry Francis - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:11 am:
So I guess then Bailey is a fan of RiRi’s openness.
- Arsenal - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:12 am:
Obviously Bailey wants us to infer that Hamlin’s doctors told him it was the vaccine.
But why would Hamlin cover that up? The more likely explanation is that his doctors told him it was football and he won’t admit it because he wants to keep playing.
- Demoralized - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:12 am:
He’s just a member of the nutter class that wants to associate any medical issue with a reaction to the vaccine.
- The Truth - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:12 am:
==We think this is about the whacks wantin’ to blame Covid vaccines on the heart condition right?==
But Bailey’s too craven to say it. He’s “just askin’ questions”.
- thisjustinagain - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:22 am:
Michael Scott (”The Office”) to Bailey: “Why are you the way you are?”
- The Ford Lawyer - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:29 am:
Zero self-awareness. Zero. Bailey’s vax status was actually relevant to the public since he was a candidate for high office and the vaccine was a question of public health policy, if not THE question at the time. Hamlin is an athlete, an entertainer. His health information, particularly regarding this matter, is of interest to himself, his family, and his employers. Period.
- Save Ferris - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:29 am:
As unlikely as it is that COVID is involved, hat’s more likely? The vaccine caused this? Or it’s after effects of actually having COVD?
I mean, we know that COVID-19 causes myocarditis, which can lead to heart failure and arrhythmias.

===we know that COVID-19 causes myocarditis===
Yes. That’s what the anti-vaxxers consistently overlook, whether thru ignorance or grifterism.
- TheInvisibleMan - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:44 am:
A lack of internally consistent behavior, is the polite way to say Darren Bailey lacks integrity.
- Bruce( no not him) - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 10:56 am:
A lack of consistency is a common issue among politicians of all stripes.
I wish this was snark.
- Hot Taeks - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:00 am:
The Demar Hamlin conspiracies from the right-wing is despicable. The farthest fringe were insinuating he was dead and actually a body double when he appeared at their playoff game against the Bengals. It feels like they’re disappointed he’s alive and doing well because it busts their shameful conspiracy theories.
Thank God Demar Hamlin is recovering and we all hope he has the opportunity to play football again.
- Streator Curmudgeon - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:15 am:
==Yes. That’s what the anti-vaxxers consistently overlook, whether thru ignorance or grifterism.==
I nominate “grifterism” for the 2023 Word of the Year.
- H-W - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:17 am:
In the final analysis, this is just evidence that candidate Bailey is unqualified to lead our great state. Making a mockery of a person’s serious illness is immoral, and unprofessional.
- someonehastosayit - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:18 am:
Bailey is consistently inconsistent.
- Save Ferris - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:23 am:
“Bailey is consistently inconsistent.”
Feature, not a bug. As with many far from center politicos.
- Pundent - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:23 am:
=this is just evidence that candidate Bailey is unqualified to lead our great state.=
Like it or not he remains the de facto leader of the ILGOP. Moderates need not apply.
- Larry Bowa Jr. - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:26 am:
That someone as stupid as Darren Bailey should offer himself up as candidate for governor of a state is mind boggling to me. How do you get that much baseless self confidence?
Hamlin can’t answer the question right now because his doctors can’t answer it yet because he likely suffered an episode of commodio cortis which can only be confirmed by ruling out numerous other possible causes via bloodwork and other medical problem solving, and if they do confirm it his football career is done, which he may not be ready to admit to himself.
- Roadrager - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:28 am:
One of Darren’s many campaign fumbles was his failure to bring in John F. Kennedy, Jr. as his running mate.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:34 am:
First…
===That’s what the anti-vaxxers consistently overlook, whether thru ignorance or grifterism.===
Restaurant Quality
Second…
It’s about owning the libs at all costs, hypocrisy notwithstanding and the idea about “freedom” and “disclosure”… rights are fungible
- Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:37 am:
How can we miss Darren Bailey when he will never go away?
Back to blathering in an attempt to stay relevant, Bailey is hopeless.
Supports my theory that Bailey fell off the tractor one too many times.
- Columbo - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:42 am:
Bailey’s ability to self-own is unmatched. But as commenters on this blog have reminded us, “its a feature, not a bug”.
- workingfromhome - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:49 am:
Well clearly the clone hadn’t been properly briefed as to what caused the real Hamlin’s cardiac arrest. Bad prep work if you ask me.
- Appears - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:50 am:
Bailey proves an old proverb:
It is better to be silent and to be thought a fool than it is to open mouth and remove all doubt.
- Pot calling kettle - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 11:58 am:
I think Bailey needs to move on to the latest “controversy” - gas stoves. (Is he not getting the memos?)
The science is pretty clear on the negative health effects; so, the Republicans have stepped up to defend everyone’s god-given right to have one.
I do not understand the Republicans on public health issues. They consistently oppose policies that protect public health. Vaccines, guns, gas stoves, women’s health, trans-gender treatment, etc. Folks who study these issues indicate the most responsible actions that will protect life and health and the Republicans adopt the opposite approach as part of their platform.
- Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 12:11 pm:
“How do you get that much baseless self confidence?”
Could it stem from being born and mollycoddled into a privileged system warped by narcissism?
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 12:18 pm:
Bailey, who is the ILGOP, is playing to a base determined to stay irrelevant if it means owning the libs, and Bailey is a “hero” to the simpleton cultists, or in other words, “the base”.
- Flying Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 12:33 pm:
Bailey needs to comment on medicine and medical technology as much as I do.
The difference is I know it.
- Just Me 2 - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 12:41 pm:
Republicans are all about inconsistency these days. For example: MAGA believe businesses owners should be allowed to discriminate against gay people (something they are born with and harms nobody) but want to deny business owners the right to discriminate agains those who refuse to get vaccinated (which is a choice that results in hurting others).
I could go on.
- Stones - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 3:04 pm:
One would think after a thumping in that last election Bailey would lay low for a while.
- FormerParatrooper - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 3:24 pm:
I saw the play where Hamlin went down. When he fell back to the ground I figured it was a heart attack. It was similar to mine except I was not playing a contact sport, I had just run 7 miles that morning. I was standing there and just fell out. I wasn’t vaccinated when my infarction occurred, of course it was 2003. I was in excellent physical shape, high strung and mission oriented. Hamlin is a pro athlete, in better physical condition than I was and younger. Things happen for no reason and seemingly from inconsequential things.
Hamlin had blunt force trauma to the chest, that can trigger an infarction. Many have died from such trauma, and those ( according to my cardiologist ) who have good physical conditioning have better chances to survive and recover.
I don’t buy the conspiracy theory of vaccination status for Hamlin, it is irrelevant to the facts.
- TooManyJens - Wednesday, Feb 15, 23 @ 3:39 pm:
If you watch the video, it’s pretty clear that “what’s going on” is that the reporter asked Hamlin to think back to a moment that he’s still traumatized by.
But you’d have to think of him as a human being and not some pawn in a great game with people like yourself — the noble antivax warriors! — at the center of it. That doesn’t appear to be in Bailey’s wheelhouse.

Some politicians need a continuity supervisor like in the film industry, to make sure they stay on script, since their actions aren’t coming from personal convictions.
