* WTTW…
A new nonpartisan poll from Northwestern University’s Center for the Study of Diversity and Democracy found that among Black voters, crime, cost of living and police accountability are the top concerns when voting for the next mayor of Chicago. The same survey found the vast majority of likely Black voters support more funding for youth programs, more affordable housing and increased funding for all public schools.
Center Square…
Two out of every three voters are dissatisfied with Chicago’s public education system, and some 62% of them support school choice, a new Illinois Policy Institute poll finds.
* Out of a sample size of 1,458…
Then again, according to Frank Calabrese, the 19th Ward now has as many mail and early votes as 12, 14, 15, 22, 28 and 31…
* Illinois is at 70 percent…

I wonder if some of the harsher rhetoric has an unintended consequence of decreasing turnout. Republicans are going to find out eventually that calling the system rigged so much just makes people less likely to vote.
- Hot Taeks - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 11:51 am:
Looks like Vallas will romp tomorrow towards the run-off. Those turnout numbers don’t look great for Johnson given the Alderpeople who endorsed him.
I look forward to voting for Sophia King tomorrow as a protest vote and one of the many reasons we need Ranked Choice Voting in Chicago.

Abortion on demand and without apology. Whatever happened to the Glenn Poshard wing of the Democrat Party?
- Old time Independent - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 11:56 am:
If Calabrese is correct then the only question is who’s coming in 2nd and will it be a recount?
- Rich Miller - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:00 pm:
===and without apology===
That says quite a bit about you.
===Whatever happened to the Glenn Poshard wing ===
It got thumped in 1998, never to return.
- vern - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:03 pm:
I don’t think I can recall a race this big where the public polling has been so low quality

“Two out of every three voters are dissatisfied with CPS public education.”
Parents who have children in selective enrollment schools and high-performing high schools may not agree with that statement.
It is an arduous journey to support students through grammar school and high school. That is the responsibility of parents. Grades K -5 introduce foundational skills which provide success in grades 6 - 12.
Children whose parents provide structure, stability, and security through school years have a greater chance for success.

BINGO. Center Square and IPI both. My Baloney-Bingo card is paying off.
- DuPage Saint - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:15 pm:
I have been thrown out by the Republican Party and I should just get over it. Anyone with half a brain should realize the abortion issue is settled and let it go. No one is forcing anyone to get an abortion it is a personal and privacy not to mention health issue. Those way back when were my old party wanted the government kept out of. So you new guy’s congratulations on turning DuPage blue and enjoy your growing fringe status
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:18 pm:
Between a refusal to any gun control and a want of making abortion illegal, Republicans will find they will want abortion made legal and some assault weapons banned to win seats in the near future.
Right now, a pro-life, pro-gun Republican trying to win in Chicagoland suburbs is a wish, not a plan.
And abortion will be on the ballot… until abortion nationally is protected.
The phony Republican position “it’s the law in Illinois” is really a reminder that Illinois Republicans want those law overturned…
- New Day - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:26 pm:
Ok, that 1983 poll is a joke, as have most “polls” been in this election. 1/3 of respondents were between 18-29. I will gladly give each and ever CapFax reader a thousand dollars if those are the demographics on Tuesday. Never happened. Never will.
The only poll I gave any credence to this year was the Mason/Dixon poll for WBEZ/Sun-Times and a couple of internal polls by legit pollsters. The rest are garbage.
- Amalia - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:30 pm:
don’t know if the change in campaigns post first take can make a big enough dent in Vallas’ vote but it will get ugly. hear Sophia King has robocalls into typically Vallas vote neighborhoods.
- Chicago Blue - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:39 pm:
That IPI poll has 38% of respondents having household incomes higher than >100k with another 10% refusing to say. Meanwhile, the median household income in Chicago is approximately $66,000…And despite polling rich folks, CTU still has a positive approval rating, haha.

“Abortion on demand and without apology.”
Apology’s in the mail, my delicate little flower. Pray I’m still allowed to frolic in the heavenly fields with baby Jesus, Grandma and Grandpa and my childhood pets when I get to the end of my journey.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 12:59 pm:
===without apology=== sounds like women, for you, are required to carry pregnancies to term to appease you, which sounds medieval, not misogynous, as misogynous means you lack self awareness, no, you want this apology…
- cermak_rd - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 1:08 pm:
I voted against Poshard back in the day and for Ryan because of the abortion issue. If enough Dems did that, that could be why that wing died. It couldn’t get enough support from party members. After all, Dan Lipinski recently lost using that combo (democrat, anti-abortion). Granted Dan had other baggage, but that position didn’t help him.
- TinyDancer(FKASue) - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 1:16 pm:
=some 62% of them support school choice, a new Illinois Policy Institute poll finds.=
Gee, what could possibly have happened to degrade, diminish and empty out neighborhood schools while celebrating and enhancing “school choice?”
How about Student Based Budgeting.
How quickly we forget:

It should be noted, however, that IPI and the documentary on CTU is aided by their own “conclusions” and thus helps with IPI’s own grifting.
There are no accidents with grifting, it’s about appeasing the Marks so they don’t realize… they’re Marks.
IPI couldn’t run state government when they actually had the chance. They failed. Miserably. And the failure was by their “hand picked” folks of… wait for it… wait… Democrat Diana Rauner. That’s the joke. That’s the punchline. The Democrat. “Get it”?
After the miserable failure governing, how could this crew of IPI be at all serious about how to fix education, teachers, schools, or even their unions?
But, the checks cash the same
- Soccermom - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 1:41 pm:
I’m just screaming into the tempest here, but I don’t understand why reporters can’t take the extra five minutes to look at when the poll was taken and who responded to it.
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 1:53 pm:
I feel like this is kind of obvious, but you can see why the Lightfoot campaign wants to make the election about abortion as opposed to issues like public safety, transportation, economic development, ect. that typically are at the forefront in municipal elections.
- Ducky LaMoore - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 2:05 pm:
“Whatever happened to the Glenn Poshard wing of the Democrat Party?”
I struggle to know exactly what the “Glenn Poshard” wing of the “Democrat” Party is. Is that basically the Dick Gephardt wing? I mean, if you really want to know what happened to them… first, Ronald Reagan… second, the right-wing media Moral Majority types got them to believe that what they couldn’t see was more important than what they could see… third, they died. And now their kids and grandkids vote for Mary Miller.
- Techie - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 2:11 pm:
@Soccermom
Why analyze a poll when you can just post it uncritically for clicks and ad revenue?
- Groucho - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 3:08 pm:
Since most people here think that any findings by the Policy Institute is a joke, why even post them here. It does not lead to any worthwhile discussion.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 3:22 pm:
===why even===
For me, I like to know what is the new chic grifting for the season.
“…’Schools’ are the rage this spring…”
“Pensions are so last season”
The Marks aren’t too bright, but it’s important to recognize what’s in season to get those checks.
- Zoe - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 4:51 pm:
Groucho - was wondering the same thing…..
- Demoralized - Monday, Feb 27, 23 @ 4:53 pm:
==Democrat Party==
If you wanna play that cute game and can’t manage to correctly say the name of the party - Democratic Party - then we all know you can’t be taken seriously.

They are off living on a ranch with the pro-choice Republicans and Old Yeller.
