For all the crazy going on these days, it’s interesting to remember the crazy of the past as well.
38 years ago, the city of Springfield was caught up in the satanic panic of the 80s, including the city council. The target of the city council at one point in that year, was AC/DC.
“…Pritzker’s ridiculous pick of Illinois to win the title.” Helloooo….can you imagine the stir if he went for any other team to win it? My guess is he has 2 sheets - one is for Illinois to take it all, and the other is quite different, and only a few have seen it. Politicians.
Thanks TheInvisibleMan for the walk down memory lane. I attended that 10/3/85 AC/DC show at the PCCC. I had forgotten about the fervor surrounding the show.
=nothing compared to Pritzker’s ridiculous pick of Illinois to win=
Lighten up Francis. It. Was. For. Fun.

Seems we are a bit hard on our Gov for his pick of Illinois.
Having picked Bradley University to win the NIT, I just don’t see a problem with his pick of Illinois.
Could be we are just a year early and next year will be recognized as visionaries.
Am I the only one who finds it deeply weird that strangers care about children playing sports? Like I get it if it is your alma mater or your family member is on the team, but the amount of attention paid and money spent on and around college sports is just off putting to me.
I did grow up in a region where it was culturally less important, but I will never get used to grown adults breathlessly worrying about which college kids are going to beat which other college kids at basketball (or anything else, for that matter).
Northwestern going to have their hands full with UCLA on Saturday. I have watched a handful of their games and have been impressed with the defense especially. For all of you SIU fans the coach of the defense for NW is Lowery the former coach of SIU took them to sweet 16. Illinois looked erratic at best, nice comeback but little short.
==Obama has done some pandering in his brackets over the years but nothing compared to Pritzker’s ridiculous pick of Illinois to win the title. That loss was karma.==
I doubt that loss had anything to do with Pritzker or will redound to his detriment in any meaningful way. The Illini have been maddeningly inconsistent all year, and they’ve struggled in the tourney for the last several years.
JB doesn’t talk about sports too often, but when he does, guy is a full on Chicago meatball. I doubt he really believed the Illini were going to go all the way, but he was happy to be a homer about it all.
If you’ve never attended a first or second round NCAA Tournament game I would encourage you to do so. Great basketball and fun for even the casual fan.
===Pritzker’s ridiculous pick of Illinois to win the title. ===
If one is unwilling to root for the home team when the odds are against them they are not qualified to be Governor. I’ll stand by his choice even if I wouldn’t have made it.
But lets ask the important question — how is the State of Iowa home to so many teams in the NCAA tournament? This is unsettling.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. My Irish is Orange, so I am a bit conflicted. Love the first day of shotgun season when tens of thousands don blaze orange and carry loaded weapons into the woods. That is a celebration.

It’s a good read, and a trip down memory lane.

How about it? Lots of “angry” for a Friday.
Lemme guess, picking “Duke” in the women’s bracket is pandering to all his fellow alums. The horror.
Let’s celebrate Northwestern winning in the First Round, the lone team left from the Prairie State. Good on Chris Collins and the Cats.

Weekend plans? Staying inside yelling at the sky about winter temps.
Other than that, watching Brad Underwood’s defenders twisting themselves into pretzels justifying his Top Ten salary and latest NCAA tourney flameout.
