I went to the Wilco show on Thursday night. Great write up in the Saturday Tribune about the show at the Riviera. Did not know Wilco endorsed Brandon Johnson and sorry to see Sen. Durbin endorse Vallas. It will be awkward for all those elected officials that supported Vallas after Johnson wins.
I’m old enough to remember that siding with Bailey made one “too extreme” and Democrats needed to stop the “Bailey” types in Illinois politics.
Now, some of these same Democrats gladly, freely, enthusiastically… endorse the same candidate as Bailey.
Now.. see… Republicans need to expel Bailey types, which I wholeheartedly agree… I just never figured Democrats, even in “coalition” type “one-ness” are cool with standing with Bailey.
That’s fun.
When Democrats tell you who *THEY* are… amirite?
Exactly right.

It would be great if reporters would press Durbin and other “Democrats” about Vallas’s ties to Bailey. I mean, they hang out together…
Completely agree Oswego Willy and Chicago Blue. Centrist Democrats just got done telling us how dangerous Bailey was less than 6 months ago and are embracing his preferred candidate in the Mayor’s race. Their hostility to the base of the party is on display. Doubt it will work this time.
Once again, the event Vallas and Bailey were at was for the Polish American Police Association. Vallas was invited and Bailey hopped into the event as he was campaigning for Governor. Both candidates for Mayor have tried to campaign for support from the Polish community.
=== But Vallas is a “lifelong Democrat” who supported same sex marriage maybe before Biden was even born, and a long-time supporter women’s rights.===
Snark is seen.
Isn’t the “non-snark” question… is that if all above *is* Vallas, why would Bailey see Vallas as *his* choice… and other endorsers haven’t called out Vallas or Bailey for their “connection”
Maybe Vallas can clear it all up next time he guest hosts for Dan Proft?
Starting to see more and more election signs in the City of Kankakee saying “Vote YES for mental health”. I’m not confident that the 0.25% sales tax increase to pay for mental health services will pass but I’m happy to signs supporting it.
- Louis G Atsaves - Monday, Mar 27, 23 @ 10:05 am:
Spent a lot of time at the Hellenic Heritage/Greek Independence Parade in Chicago yesterday. Watched Vallas, Durbin and White exit one of the GreekTown restaurants together and later heard on the radio Durbin endorsed Vallas that morning. Met a lot of folks from my old neighborhood, some of whom are involved in Democratic politics. I still attend Church in the old neighborhood and grew up with most of them, the rest became friends from Church over the years. I have a lot of relatives living in Chicago both North and Southwest sides and many of them were there.
It was nice to catch up with them. Didn’t expect to spend so much time there yesterday. They are seriously convinced that Brandon Johnson is the Democratic version of a radical Darren Bailey that we have in the GOP. They see no difference between far left and far right candidates other than both are to be avoided at the ballot box. They were looking for advice as to how to deal with the Democratic Socialists who are gaining a foothold and adding to their numbers.
Like those of us who admired Ronald Reagan in the GOP, they are looking to roll back the pendulum to the Richard J. Daley days. They have become tired of graffiti, cars being stolen or broken into, shopping at stores and being eyewitnesses to looters who don’t fear anyone, bike lanes and multiple stop signs that have snarled traffic on local streets to a higher degree and few of them, if any, ride the CTA EL or buses these days to avoid mugging or the smell of urine. I was showing my Ventra card to a few of them as I do ride the EL to the courthouse when my briefcase gets too heavy for a walk. And yes, the CTA trains are dirty and smelly and even worse, no longer even run on time.
They are looking for basic civility in Chicago. They are not hoping for social workers and more Great Society programs. It didn’t help that at the start of the parade a recorded announcement was made over loudspeakers that if you see something amiss, immediate report it to a policeman.
The two loudest reactions during the parade? Vallas, which was to be expected, and police officers, including some suburban and those CPD wearing jackets saying they were retired who were marchers. All uniformed CPD were assigned to the parade and stationed all over, not as marchers, except for some mounted CPD who kicked off the parade.
I know I’m no Isabel but just reporting.
- James the Intolerant - Monday, Mar 27, 23 @ 10:22 am:
I was watching a candidate forum yesterday and Vallas stated that CPS spends $30K/student, which is a Wirepoints number and I thought the real cost was $16K. $30K includes buildings, etc. But Johnson did not correct Vallas, which I thought was a missed opportunity. Show the self-proclaimed policy wonk that he was wrong.
=== They are seriously convinced that Brandon Johnson is the Democratic version of a radical Darren Bailey that we have in the GOP.===
Total and complete projection, as these same folks are happy as clams supporting Bailey’s mayoral hopeful.

“Can’t these folks just be quiet like in the Daley Days?”

Gotta be honest, “trains on time”, while a very fair criticism… makes one ponder other apologies used when merely hoping for “leaders who get the trains on time”

Who do we believe. Liberals(practically everyone who posts here) say Vallas is a Republican. Liberal Democrats Sen. Durbin, Jesse White, Arnie Duncan, Bobby Rush, Pat Quinn and other certified Democrats say Vallas is a Democrat.
Where do Darren Bailey, Jeanne Ives, AWAKE, Dan Proft, the FOP Prez…
… where are they in your “Democrat Party” bona fides?
The third prong of Vallas is ignored by the first two… “why?”

It would be interesting to see what the readership here thought of its own political lean. But obviously not “practically everyone” one way or the other.
Has the third prong ever come out and proclaim Vallas is a Republican. I admit Vallas intersects some of the “third” prongs views at times; this doesn’t make him a Republican. People like Durbin fully understand this. Nowadays it seems that the Litmus test is simply this: Agree with with every Liberal thought or face the wrath of the Liberal Front/our posters.
==Show the self-proclaimed policy wonk that he was wrong.==
He has been corrected numerous times but he is committed to sticking with the lie. Also, I assume Durbin isn’t running again and that’s why he made that goofy endorsement.

After Friday night’s fun filled House Session there were some really unhappy House members.
I mean really, really, really unhappy House members. Good thing the Spring Break is around the corner. Some “cooling off” seems to be in order.
And, how about that weather in the 217 yesterday? A taste of Spring was most welcome.

Durbin was adamant that Bailey would be bad for Illinois, doesn’t agree with Bailey, but with Vallas, Durbin and Bailey, find common ground?

Argue like an adult.
How can one find Bailey wholly unacceptable yet is fine endorsing Vallas who panders to Bailey types?
“I’ve known Paul Vallas for decades.”
So, Durbin is a “Daley” type, and willing to ignore the third prong.
This isn’t that hard, don’t hurt yourself.
