Question of the day

Tuesday, Sep 5, 2023 - Posted by Rich Miller

* WBEZ

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is officially a college lecturer — at least for a semester — as her graduate-level class on “health policy and leadership” at Harvard University got underway last week.

In an interview with WBEZ, Lightfoot said she’ll use a mock press conference, a simulated community meeting and guest speakers to teach in part about the dangers of politicizing a pandemic and how to interact with the media, drawing on the lessons learned from running a city amid COVID-19.

* The Question: Your suggestions for the class syllabus?

    – the lecturer will only answer questions from some students in the class, not others.

    – After the first week, office hours are not going to be happening, just accept that.

    – The lecturer will be happy to help you with other lecturers, the lecturer gets along great with teachers.

    – Anyone wearing CTU logoed clothing will be asked to leave class.

    9/5/2023

    Hon. Lori Lightfooot, Esq.
    Harvard University
    Health Policy & Leadership - 531

    Syllabus

    This class is graduate level, a discussion towards handling policy and emergencies in city-level governing, including health emergencies and the press challenges in governing.

    Readings

    I have a workbook available only through a FOIA type request you must make to me, and after consideration a decision will be made to it’s distribution to you, rejection(s) can be appealed, notes during class are encouraged, transcripts will be available through the FOIA process described above.

    Grading

    Your grading will be divided along this scale;

    50% on how well you agree with my assessments and lectures with verbal cues and participation. If you agree, and the ferocity of that agreement, you will be rewarded with a grade that will reflect your understanding to where I am right.

    25% will be awarded to actual papers you will be assigned where your agreement with me is written and your use of the facts I give you to agree are applied. Citing third party praise of me will be rewarded in these papers.

    25% will be a 5 minute oral presentation. In this presentation you will cite my own words, along with the praises I received. Rebuffing criticism will be equally weighed in the presentation with an emphasis on where the criticism is too personal and too political towards me.

    Extra Credit will be given in two ways, the attacking of where the press got it wrong during my term, with a strong emphasis where I was a victim of targeted bad press. Also for extra credit will be going after fellow students that disagree with me so I don’t have to, with a strong emphasis on personal attacks and those must include snide and degrading remarks toward those students.

    Keep in mind, extra credit done in a costume, or dressing up in a character to prove a point to policy will be given greater weight.

    Questions are only encouraged if they can highlight where policy is seen as a win for me, any questions that seem to see policy as unhelpful or counterproductive to citizens will be graded down to reflect how my feelings are or could be hurt.

    There are no office hours. I’m unavailable. I will decide your access.

    Do NOT email me. Ever
