Once again abortion rights were on the ballot and once again abortion rights have won. In every state abortion rights have appeared on the ballot it has one. Maybe the Republicans should take a hint and realize that they have lost this battle. Might want to think twice about doubling or tripling down on a topic that they are losing miserably on. If I were the Democrats I would continue pounding the Republicans on their abortion stances. It’s a winning message.

One might argue that Republicans have not lost that battle until the last Republican candidate who forced unwanted pregnancies upon women is removed from office.
Abortion is not a campaign item. It is a form of oppression. Oppression should have long term consequences. The fact that too many states now have been empowered to oppress women doesn’t change if politicians choose a new argument.

Ohio voters supported enshrining rights while reserving the ability to add restrictions (once there’s fetal vitality). I don’t think that’s the message in Illinois or nationally among Democrats so I’d hold off on telling everyone that the Illinois position is supported across America, even in red states. That’s simply not true.

And if THAT is the argument advanced by the GOP nationwide, then the GOP will continue to get creamed on this issue. The only place the GOP has won is in the 6-member radical majority on our current Supreme Court. Elections have consequences, and that is the lasting legacy of Trump’s 2016 victory.

The self-reporting endorsement affidavit is so flawed and this right here is the crux of the problem – unelected administrative staff get to arbitrarily and regularly (ongoing) change rules that directly affect a right enshrined in the constitution.
The silver lining is that the ban and endorsement affidavit process so clearly flies in the face of Bruen this will eventually force the SCOTUS to deal with this directly and clearly for all 50 states.

Women, and a lot of men, see this as a phony argument. It has become the new talking point of the right but the vast majority of abortions come nowhere close to meeting this criteria.

75% of the all world nations including 27 EU countries do not permit abortion after 12 weeks. Only 3 of 42 European countries permit them after 15 weeks

Another word for nuance in this case is pedantry. According to Martineau (1837), pedantry “is the result of an intellect which cannot be wholly passive, but must demonstrate some force, and does so through the medium of narrow morals.”

The mayor has no IGA team. The 5th floor does not have an IGA director and no communications director. The lack of those leadership positions explains a lot of the outcomes and blunders across the last few weeks and months.

Why they so bitter, so much winning.
The reality that is lost, as I see, is this;
A woman’s health care is now dictated by a zip code as to wether or not a woman has full rights to their medical health.
In short, not all women are equal in the law or to each other… thanks to Republicans… and it’s now dangerous for women and their health.
Republicans wanted a post-Roe America. How’s that going?
Elections matter because winners make policy, and if it’s bad policy voters make changes. Blaming voters for not “understanding nuance” when simplicity says one side is endangering women’s health, well, nights like last night are going to continue until Roe type legislation is done on a national governing.
It may take a few cycles, but Republicans won with Dobbs.
To close, and make it Illinois centric, what happened in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, how can one look at Cook and the collars, Champaign, Peoria, anything above 72 and say Republican wants to curb a woman’s right to their body is a winner in Illinois outside a minority of areas?
We’re talking Ohio and Kentucky… plus Kanas… how do Republicans in Illinois saddled with Trump gonna find greener districts?

The point is that a competent mayor and IGA team would have come up w some form of discipline for CRR acceptable to all that would have avoided Wagespauk offering a censure resolution.
As part of that, the mayor also would have avoided being overruled (Shall the Chair be Sustained vote he lost when he tried to rule censure was out of order).

LP, I debunked this “stat” for you the last time you brought it up. They allow free abortion on demand up to 12 weeks. AFTER 12 weeks most EU countries require a justification, but allowable justifications include “can’t afford to raise a child” and “don’t want to have a baby, actually” and “father skipped out when he found out I was pregnant.”
The thing about the GOP treating abortion as a discussion among men is that they are constantly talking nonsense, and those of us with uteruses are intimately aware that they are talking nonsense, and frequently lack even the most basic information about female bodies and pregnancy.
I look forward to the day when abortion is a discussion for women and their doctors, and people like Lucky Pierre who are neither will be cordially invited to MYOB.

The most telling thing about women understanding their rights was when voting was enshrined in the constitution.
By enshrining women’s suffrage, women made sure there was no Dobbs to take voting away from women, because women’s rights to their bodies seems ok to be decided by the states…

Roe was never settled law. Inventing new 14th Amendment rights can be downright dangerous. Even RBG recognized that Roe was horrible legal scholarship. It might shock many but the post- 1937 Court now and then does overrule precedent . It happens.

You choose. Either way, there was no truth in overturning Roe.
Republicans now will face voters on this until it’s resolved. Telling a woman in Alabama she’s different than a woman in Illinois to the rights of her body, maybe even facing legal recourse… that’s not how things should work.
The 14th amendment is a joke… considering which amendment was needed for women to have the right to vote.
A legal scholar would wonder aloud why women needed to enshrine the right to vote.

Such a tired trope. Who do you think does all of the work in these agencies and in government. Here is a hint: NOT elected officials. The work is done by professionals in the agencies. That is true at local, county, state, and federal levels. And always has been. They are the ones left to interpret the legislation and enforce the rules which are often poorly written, not just for this law.

Until January 1, 2024 current owners of the banned firearms and attachments that are not registered are in compliance with the law. If they they don’t register by Jan 1, barring additional rules changes by ISP, they will then no longer be “law abiding”.

If you map the extremes of abortion, one end is none period and the other end is no restrictions. Fact is, every State is somewhere between those two extremes.
Same for fun control. One extreme is is unlimited ownership and the other end is zero ownership (or confiscation as some would say). Again, every State, and the Federal government, has some kinds of limits.
So yes, voters and legislators do do nuisance. But that gets lost in the outspoken rhetoric from the extremes.

Respectfully, “no restrictions” is a red herring extreme argument that doesn’t match the reality that most abortions occur well before the 3rd trimester and those that don’t usually involve significant health risks to the woman, baby, or both. Leaving medical decisions to a woman and her doctor is not an extreme position.
