Had an excellent Juneteenth yesterday. First went to the ALPLM Library to view a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Lincoln, then toured the Museum. Caught a performance of The Nature of Freedom: a Literary Commemoration of Juneteenth, in the Museum’s Union Theater. Followed this with an outdoor lunch at Obed & Isaac’s.
Then on the way home, stopped to watch firefighters (heroes, all) fight the massive, tragic fire in the 400 block of East Adams.
RIP Bruce Farley a legendary rep/senator from back in the day. I imagine a few of the older readers as well as the CEO if this blog may have shared a cocktail or 4 with him.
I’ve been moping quite a bit about the passing of Willie Mays. Learned a fascinating factoid about him: he has the most homeruns at Wrigley Field for a player who never played for the Cubs. He hit 54. Hammering Hank only had 50. Babe Ruth only had 1 - albeit it was probably it was arguably the most famous homerun he ever hit.
The friendly confines continues to comfort me in our national mourning of the “say hey” kid.

Attended my brother’s graduation party on Saturday, which he held at TGI Friday’s in Schaumburg. The air conditioning was out, and it was dreadfully hot. Then, yesterday I drove out to Bourbonnais for my girlfriend’s birthday dinner also at a TGI, and the air conditioning was out.
I believe it might be a national conspiracy to save money at the expense of customer comfort with that company.
WSPY is reporting that Sugar Grove residents came out big time to oppose a proposed new TIF district. They filled a ballroom at Waubonsee and some 50 people (villagers and township officials) spoke against the proposal.
