About 10 years ago Phil Emery signed Jay Cutler to a 3rd contract and brought in Marc Trestman over Bruce Arians. Never watched another Bears game since then.
I find it fascinating that Ryan Poles, a former offensive lineman himself, has been talking about building a solid offensive line since he’s been here. And each of the past several years, it’s been a patch work of players coming in and out and switching positions to try to find five guys who can work together to protect the QB and run the ball effectively.
Eberfuls is making some terrible decisions, but the GM hasn’t fixed the Bears’ biggest problem on offense since he arrived. Nate Harris? How did that free agent signing work out?
Drafting a QB with the top pick without having a line to protect him is like buying a Ferrari and not having a garage to park it in. It’s great way to ruin your investment.

To add to 47th Ward’s comment, the Bears have way better offensive skill players than the other teams with rookie and 2nd year QBs in the league, but somehow our QB can’t put the ball in their hands. I’m sure the health and talent issues of the offensive line go a long way in explaining it, but the play calling and preparedness has to be suspect too.

The Bears are once again a dumpster fire. Eberflus will be gone at the end of the season which means they’ve wasted a year of Williams’ development. And speaking of the quarterback he looked totally lost yesterday. While the offensive line gets its fair share of the blame the quarterback simply isn’t where he needs to be. You simply can’t hold on to the ball that long and expect good things to happen. And his refusal to run when he doesn’t have an open receiver is beyond explanation.
=Jaden Daniels was the pick. Bears blew it again.=
Williams was the consensus #1 pick for a reason. Just like there’s consensus around the ineptness of the Bears coaching staff. There’s no reason to believe that the Bears would look much different with Daniels under center. Washington is a good team the Bears are not.

The time to fire Eberflus was after week four last year. The OC is garbage. There is a ton of talent on this team. Caleb Williams can still be a great franchise quarterback. But he is a rookie. Go look at Peyton Manning’s rookie stats. Horrendous. All we need are coaches who can use the talent provided them. That’s it.
Jayden Daniels looks like the pick because the Commanders have good coaches that are making sure that he has safe and east throws and does not need to do too much. As they see his talents they are opening up the offense. Same should be for the Bears, but instead they are making Williams have to play hero ball. Also down 21-9 early in the 3rd quarter and going for it on 4-11 at about your own 40 should get you fired during the game.

The number one problem with the Chicago Bears has always been ownership. It will continue to be until the McCaskeys sell the team.
Jayden* Daniels is a good player, but so is Caleb Williams. If Jayden Daniel’s was behind this offensive line and subject to this play calling, he would be in the same spot Caleb now finds himself. Caleb Williams is not to blame for the Bear’s problems, and it is far too early to say the Bears “blew it” by drafting Williams over Daniels.
Another useful loss. Every one from here on out is just another step closer to firing the entire coaching staff (too bad the defense is pretty good) and moving forward. It also gets the Bears back in the top 15 for a draft pick. And I’d love to see Carolina lose as much as possible for the highest 2nd round we will get from them.
Had the Bears on my second screen, and loved watching the Lions murder the Packers on FOX. Best thing for this Bears fan was to be distracted yesterday.
The Bears won’t fire Eberflus mid-season. But after this year when he is dismissed the Hail Mary will be seen as the final straw. I feared they would be listless after that debacle.
Jets did it already. Saints just fired their head coach. Raiders bounced their/our old OC. Water is warm Bears, it is obvious it needs to be done, just do it.
The Bears were rolling, won 3 games in a row and Caleb was looking real good.
Then the bye week arrived and the coaching staff had 2 weeks with the team. And coming off the bye week, with all that extra time to prepare, the bears come out and play 2 awful games.
Yesterday, Caleb dropped back to pass 41 times. Not once did he throw the ball in Kmet’s direction. I remember when a TE was a rookie qb’s best friend.
The Bears defense is barely average with Sweat.
As someone said, none of this is going to change until we have a new owner.
Amazing listening to the TV crew draw out how the Cardinals design and block for their running plays, which were wildly successful.
Not so equally amazing is that the same TV crew never drew out how the Bears design and block for their running plays.
Pathetic. Another First Round Quarterback being physically slaughtered by an offensive line that can’t block against a pass rush, and can’t block for running plays.
Wait on Eberflus until the end of the year. His first year everyone wanted the Bears to tank and they did, as they were terrible I thought he should be given a pass for that year. Last year they started bad and ended good. This year clearly the o-line isn’t very good but that’s not all on him. He’s made some head scratching decisions but not enough for them to kick him to the curb mid-season. If there are many more of those, at the end of the year, maybe.
If it wasn’t for Cairo Santos, the Bears’ score would have been 0-29 for Sunday’s game.

I think it’s worse than it seems. It seemed clear last year that the Bears needed help on the OL. They also needed one more tank season and while they have some good draft capital next year, they need more (see Detroit). And OL players need a couple of years to develop. They could have easily traded the #9 pick for two second rounders and used them for the OL. Instead they went for the luxury of a 3rd WR option. Firing Flus won’t make much of a difference - the OL is still shaky (put Caleb in the shotgun every passing play just to protect him) and no “interim” coach is going to do much better.
When healthy the line is really down two players. They need a very good center and solid improvement at left tackle or one of the guards. You get two very good players there through the draft or free agency and the line is plenty good enough.
The next thing they need is an offensive game plan that empowers the QB and the pieces in place. There seems to be no quick way to read progressions for Williams, and that has to change. He needs to have option 1 then 2 and 3. Its technical but they way Waldron runs the offense is far more complicated than that. He needs to change or go.
The Staleys need to rediscover themselves. I would be all for moving the team back to Decatur except there is no way Papa Bear would ever be comfortable with his team playing in a stadium wherein ADM owns the naming rights.

I’ve noticed a trend this season, when the Bears are the home team (as they were in London), they win, when they are the visiting team, they lose. Therefore I’m predicting an over .500 season.
Awful. Terrible. Very Bad. It’s not just Eberflus, it’s coaches, players, and Bears management. It’s bad play calls, foolish penalties, and an inability to score touchdowns. It’s leaving Williams on the field when the game is unwinnable, and not protecting him when it IS winnable. Think I’ll skip the next game.
