I read that Preckwinkle is going to run for reelection. I bet when JFK said a torch was passed to a new generation he thought they might actually pass it on at some point
I’m very disappointed in Durbin for voting with the Republicans for cloture. I believe that Democrats need to stand up to the Republicans and fight even if they are in the minority. It’s time for Durbin to resign. Same goes for Schumer.

While I agree about Durbin and Schumer needing to retire, I understand the strategic thinking behind the vote. I do buy the argument that if we allow a shutdown, it gives Trump more leeway for further depredations with the judges unavailable to slow or stop him. What angers me is how Dem leadership got us into this mess in the first place, by continuing to play Marquis of Queensbury rules while the other party is doing WWE wrestling.

Schumer did the right thing by not caving to performative politics and causing massive damage via a government shutdown. Now Trump and Republicans totally own any damage they are causing or enabling. Democrats won’t win by shutting things down but in the usual way, by the other side screwing things up badly, which always happens with a Republican president (since Bush 1).

Schumer and Durbin really fumbled the CR. Perhaps it is time for them to step down from Senate leadership.
I am glad Duckworth voted no on cloture.

Why does it say Tina Turner musical interlude but everything is Aretha? I don’t get it.
