Friday, May 2, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller * Punk poetry… When there’s no future, how can there be sin? “Guitar work and progression is like mine,” Chuck Berry said of the song. “Good backbeat,” As much as they claimed to be a filthy rotten break from the past, the Sex Pistols built on that past to create their sound. The drum syncopation in the repeated lines “No future, no future, no future for you” just blew me away when I first heard it - and it still does today. * Anyway, tell us what’s happening in your local world.

I couldn’t help but laugh when I got my property tax bill from DuPage County yesterday. They added in a flyer trying to push the convenience of paying the bill on-line. I immediately thought to myself, “This is great. They must have dropped the 2% charge to use a credit card. I will pay my bill online.”
Friends, they have not dropped the 2% charge. For the low(???) low(???) price of 2% of your total property tax bill, you can save yourself the time of mailing an envelope or dropping it off in Wheaton. What a deal???? They should spend more money to print more mailer inserts because it is such a great deal???

Their kiss-off song to their record label (”EMI”) should be as famous as “Take This Job and Shove It”

What’s happening is a frustration with my commute from the north side downtown. They want Loop workers to come back to the Loop to help businesses but in addition to having all the work on the Kennedy back up until Thanksgiving, now Milwaukee is all torn up (which is how I get downtown via Elston), the sign said this morning, until July.

Today’s piece by Isabel on Rep. Huynh is one of the most uplifting pieces of journalism I have read in a long time. Thanks Rep Huynh for sharing your difficult story, and thank you Isabel for doing it justice.

I know this song from the movie “Lost in Translation” (2003 Sophia Coppola). Japanese artist party. The Japanese are so polite. Great selection. Makes me feel 12 years old!

“When there’s no future, how can there be sin?”
Symptom of modernity and the turning away, as predicted by Nietzsche.
Sunny with calm winds here, finally.

Take this with a grain of salt considering it came from Edgar County Watchdogs but looks like Nason (in Jefferson County) had their own version of the Thornton Township brawl last night at their meeting:

Looks like we are headed for a dull and chilly weekend here in beautiful DuPage County. Somehow I forgot that the Sox had an afternoon game yesterday, so missed watching them win 8 to 0. Can’t catch a break sometimes…

This real ID has taken on a more sudden look for me and I wish Illinois had a way to get things faster. I realize I was not on the ball but the DMV has limited openings.

@benniefly2
I live in Sangamon County. I pay my property tax bills using the online bill pay feature of my financial institution, no extra fees with the convenience of paying online.

My Lake County Treasurer sent the tax bill with a letter gleefully stating that my tax bill has landed.
Not mailed? OK then.

===Friends, they have not dropped the 2% charge===
You’re gonna blame the county for swipe fees by gigantic banks?
- Rich Miller - Friday, May 2, 25 @ 11:15 am:
===but the DMV has limited openings===
I mean, this has been a pending requirement since forever.
- Benniefly2 - Friday, May 2, 25 @ 12:35 pm:
I don’t blame them for a swipe charge. It costs the county money. I blame them for spending money on mailers to promote a service almost no one will use once they realize how much the swipe charge actually is. I wouldn’t have wasted my time or even gotten irritated if they had just said upfront that there will be a 2% fee for all card transactions. To be fair, they do say there will be a fee and that it won’t be disclosed until the last page of the process, but still… Come on.
