What’s a sweetheart like you… Oh, forget it, I’m in enough trouble already

I offered to post a photo of Charlie with his significant other in order to help patch things up and get myself out of the doghouse. So, here it is. By the way, her name is Amy Rider. Enjoy.

Truth Girl shuts it down
Sunday, Jan 30, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller What started as a blog about Alan Keyes eventually transformed into a liberal, evangelical take on the regligious right. But, no more. From tonight’s blog: I can’t do it–that is work and keep up with the religious right, or religious left for that matter.

LaHood hater
Sunday, Jan 30, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller Somebody doesn’t like Ray LaHood much: Welcome to NoLaHood.com! This website is dedicated to providing the people of Illinois and especially the people our state’s 18th Congressional District with better leadership. For too long, We The People have been misled by a “Republican†congressman who does not stand for our values and cannot be held accountable for his actions because he faces only token opposition. This website will expose the truth about his record and the history of his district, and serve as a grassroots focal point to push for new leadership in 2006. Really awful MIDI music, but the visceral hate is not to be missed.

High-tax suburbia
Sunday, Jan 30, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller Tax-raising suburban Republicans? Bigtime. Better call these guys and tell them that lots of locals aren’t following the script (not trying to pick on the CrossBloggers, but they take so many shots at the city that a little turnabout should occasionally be in order). Suburbanites face an outpouring of new tax and bond referendums in the April 5 election from government agencies grappling with everything from overcrowded schools to understaffed libraries. And even with those extraordinarily high taxes, they’re still a long, long commute from stuff like this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and, well, you get the idea.

Meaningless measuring sticks
Saturday, Jan 29, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller One of the new parlor games of the national punditocracy (some of them based right here)is waiting to see when and how Barack Obama finally alienates the left wing, even eagerly stirring the pot. It’s a completely meaningless exercise. People like this and this and this will never be placated, no matter what Obama does. Leftists, like Rightists, are purists. If you’re not with them 100 percent on their latest crusade, then you’re against them and deserving of attack. Looking for splits between Obama and the far Left might be an entertaining diversion, but it signifies absolutely nothing about how Obama is doing now and predicts zip about his future. Obama is certain to not live up to expectations because so many different groups of people projected so many of their own hopes and agendas on him after that convention speech. Even the Congressional Black Caucus got a bit of a startle the other day after they met with President Bush. The meeting was a first for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) who left the White House wishing he had heard more from Bush instead of his [congressional] colleagues. Ouch. I’ve known Obama for years, and he’s always been his own man. If he continues this behavior in the Senate, he’ll live up to my own personal expectations and most likely have a long career in politics, despite the silly, trivial games that national thumbsuckers might contrive to fill space.

Friday Topinka blogging
Friday, Jan 28, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller OK, I’ll do just this one today because somebody asked for it. But now I’m done.
Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka’s 3rd charity cookbook “Here We Dough Again,” filled with favorite recipes from the Treasurer’s staff, family and friends, makes a great gift. Proceeds from the $15 cookbook will benefit the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Children’s Miracle Network, Mini-O’Beirne Crisis Nursery and the Ronald McDonald House.

Nothingness
Friday, Jan 28, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller I got unreal sick last night and couldn’t even write the Capitol Fax, not that anything of huge importance happened anyway. Blogging will probably be nonexistent today.
