Are you planning to work on any campaigns this fall? If so, which one(s) and what will you be doing?

- Posted by Rich Miller

  1. - John Lee Pettimore - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 8:32 am:

I am working 24/7 for Bill Gomolinski, candidate for Cook County Commissioner in the 16th District against Antoin Peraica. Then I am going to work for Todd Stroger for County Board President against Antoin Peraica. Why? Because Peraica is a clown. Deet Deet Deedle Leedle Deet Deet Deet Deet.

  2. - So-Called "Austin Mayor" - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 9:01 am:

Throwing bottles at SUVs with Roskam stickers doesn’t count does it?

  3. - The Ghost - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 9:20 am:

You can’t be serious Rich. Asking a question like this isn’t going to elicit much of a response from the people actually working and running the legislative races. At least not from the smart ones.

But if anybody’s interested in who’s running the Cook County Dogcatcher’s race, stay tuned.

  4. - Southern Boy - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 9:38 am:

    I dont know.

Why would I want to work for Topinka after she no-showed at Republican Day at the State Fair. Are we not good enough for her???

  5. - Southern Boy - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 9:49 am:

Guess I should have clarified… She no-showed the BETTER FAIR. ;)

    The DuQuoin State Fair.

  6. - Illinois Guy - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:01 am:

I’m going to volunteer for Giannoulias. He’s running against the Cook County Dem machine and the DuPage County Republican machine… and he still has a chance! It’s a new era for Illinois politics.

  7. - Rick - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:04 am:

    Classy AM, real classy.

Illinois guy, how is he running against the machine? Do you people make this stuff up??

  8. - WillCoVoter - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:17 am:

Working for Pat McGuire for Will County Treasurer - who is out to unseat the Republican incumbent.

  9. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:28 am:

Hey, I noticed that Topinka didn’t bother to show up at the fair too. Typical that we get disrespected. Of course, the media picked up on it too because that was the lead story on most of the TV stations. Not smart to disrespect southern IL two months before the election.

Blago has been down here every day this week. I have seen him and his family playing games and riding the rides. They looked to be really enjoying themselves. He almost has me won over!

  10. - Bill - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:32 am:

Patti says that DuQuoin Fair is much more family friendly and the press don’t scare the kids and make them cry.

  11. - Speedy - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:38 am:

Whichever one offers me the highest paying job upon victory.

  12. - Anon. - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:42 am:

With masterminds like you and a twenty-cent budget behind him, Gomonlinski is a shoe in! :D

  13. - John Lee Pettimore - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:50 am:

It won’t take a bunch of money or a mastermind to beat Peraica. Tony the Clown will defeat himself.

Deet Deet Deedle Leedle Deet Deet Deet Deet

  14. - Pat Hickey - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:18 am:

Yes. I have alredy volunteered to work in 19th Ward Aldermanic race.

  15. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:23 am:

What candidates have announced for that race? Is Ginger going to run again? Who are you lining up for?

  16. - bored now - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:30 am:

Are you planning to work on any campaigns this fall?

pat, i would have thought the question pre-cluded aldermanic efforts…

  17. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:31 am:

John Somerville should win in the 19th ward

  18. - Bill - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:32 am:

That aldermanic campaign has been going on for the last three and one half years and my guess is Pat is with the incumbent.

  19. - Bill - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:34 am:

John Sommerville won’t win his own block or precinct let alone the whole ward.

  20. - Anon - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:36 am:

Judy Baar Topinka! Our state cannot survive another term of Blago. He is not interested in his duties, and delegates everything to cronies.

  21. - Bill - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 11:40 am:

Those cronies are doing an excellent job of governing.

  22. - Little Egypt - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 12:01 pm:

Anon 10:28 AND Bill, so showing up every day at a Southern Illinois fair means you will vote for GoverNOT Hairdo instead of Judy? If that’s your criteria for voting for the best candidate, Lord help us all. He’s there because there are not as many reporters to dog his trail and he can stay in one of those beautiful Hayes mansions on the grounds that is now called the Southern Executive Mansion (funny he won’t stay in the one in Springfield). Am I missing something here but is school now in session or not and I believe he is the parent of a student. He’s there every day because he wants to savor the moment and remember the fair - his last one. He’s thinking he should have gone down to the best fair in the state every year he was governor when he had the chance. I sure hope people are not being fooled by his sudden affection for Southern Illinois. Remember the $3M given for a ballpark in Marion and an added bonus of $1M because he was just sitting there thinking it was a nice thing to do. And then remember that your kids are going to school in substandard buildings, with 15-20 year old textbooks, sitting in overcrowded classrooms, being taught by underpaid teachers, from a school district deep in debt thanks to underfunding by this GoverNOT. Don’t tell me how much he has increased school spending. He can increase it every year till the cows come home. It’s how much additional he gives the schools that they care about - not how often he attends the DuQuoin State Fair.

  23. - Pat Hickey - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 12:06 pm:

John Somerville is Bollywood Handsome - he makes Jack Ryan look my twin and I make Walter Brennan look good. Yep, he’s the 19th Ward’s Jack Ryan.

  24. - Macro - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 12:23 pm:

I am working for Alderman Levar who is being challenged by his former top aide who quit a month ago. Should be a real barn burner.

  25. - Big Al - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 12:38 pm:

    working with JBT

  26. - Scoop - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 12:45 pm:

  27. - Tired at IDOT - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 12:56 pm:

Even tho’ I haven’t received a raise in four years, I am sending Judy Barr Topinka $25 from each paycheck.

  28. - Alicia Snyder - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 12:57 pm:

I’ll be joining the most ethical, creative & progressive minds in Illinois to offer real change to Illinois voters!!!!!
The GREEN party is running a full slate of candidates (me included, vote SNYDER for comptroller) Join us - BE the change you wish to see!!!!

  29. - Captain America - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 1:08 pm:

I generally volunteer for local Democratic organizations on the northern lakefront rather than for specific campaigns in terms of the State and County elections. I already have done some voter registration in areas that typically support most Democratic policies and candidates by substantial margins.

If I can figure out how to help Todd Stroger,I will do so because he’s the candidate in the most trouble on the lakefront. But Sroger’s a hard sell, except to point out that Peraica is not a reasonable alternative, because of his extremely conservative ideological orientation.

Aldermanic races have effectively started or will be starting in September - petition circulation begins. I’ll be volunteering for Joe Moore in Rogers Park/49 and Vi Daley in Lincoln Park. On election day, I will be working in Lincoln Park/43.

I’m marching with Debra Shore in Schaumburg on Labor Day, but she has a November cakewalk after her impressive primary victory in the Metropolitan Water Recalamation District race.

My weekend work schedule precludes me from traveling to the suburban ares to canvass for Bean,Duckworth, and Seals - otherwise I
    would do so.

I enjoy political campaign volunteer work - I guess it would be fari to characterize me as a political gypsy.

  30. - bored now - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 1:11 pm:

alicia, i’ve been to two green-ish type events in chicago recently and haven’t seen any indication that there were greens there campaigning (amongst what i would have thought a natural constituency). is the green party just campaigning down state? did the green candidates go to the ivi-ipo endorsement sessions? i know karen’s from this area, but i saw more of her before she started running (through her media activism)…

  31. - Ravenswood Right Winger - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 1:24 pm:

Tony Peraica for Cook County Board President, passing out flyers.

And in the spring, I’ll volunteer for whoever runs against Chicago Alderman Joe “No Foie Gras” Moore of the 49th ward.

  32. - HUMPS - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 2:15 pm:

  33. - B Hicks - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 2:24 pm:

    Rod Blagojevich

Phones, precints, signs, parades, get out and vote campaign…everything.

  34. - B Hicks - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 2:25 pm:

  35. - Way Northsider - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 2:33 pm:

Dan Seals taking on Mark Kirk for Congress in the 10th District.

  36. - Forrest Claypool - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 3:00 pm:

I’ll be all out for Todd Stroger.

  37. - Troy News Guy - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 3:20 pm:

I’m helping Pat Quinn get re-elected!

  38. - Squideshi - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 3:23 pm:

I will be working on the Whitney campaign!

Click here if you want to help.

  39. - You're doing a heck of a job Brownie - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 3:47 pm:

If b hicks is doing all that, then we’ll have some peace and quiet here for awhile!

  40. - B Hicks - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 3:52 pm:

    Don’t hate.

  41. - Rex - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 3:53 pm:

I want to volunteer for JBT but can’t - I would have to wear a big floppy hat with sunglasses. I have always volunteered for the Republicans but now too many snakes watching for state employees not loyal to the Gooberner. The state agency I work for would find a way to get rid of me. This is why not many state workers are getting involved in helping with her campaign.

  42. - 4 MORE - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 4:28 pm:

  43. - anon - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 4:43 pm:

I’m with a small ag related association. We have 20-30 people who usually volunteer for a few weekends before the election. I will send us out to wherever Emil & Mike want us to go (pretty much). Probably, Dugan, Gordon, Granberg, Demuzio, etc.

  44. - anon - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 4:44 pm:

Judy no-show at the fair??? I saw her. You must be joking….

  45. - anonymous - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 5:56 pm:

I’m already working involuntarily for the Blago campaign, through my office where I have to see all his campaign literature, disguised as All Kids, Vet Car, Senior Care, SaveRx, etc. handouts, blanketing the state with free publicity with his name and face on it.

  46. - Big Al - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 6:05 pm:

aren’t there pictures on this website of Judy at Republican day. isn’t that funny that Blago and his staff pay people to even make phony blog postings

  47. - the ole precinct captain - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 6:10 pm:

I will be working precincts for the whole democratic slate in Palos Township and the 39th ward.

  48. - NW burbs - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 6:13 pm:

Rick, Giannoulis ran against M. Madigan’s hand-picked candidate for Treasurer in the primary, and is running against Christine Radogno in the general, not exactly the DuPage Republican Machine but certainly part and parcel of the suburban gop machine, such as it is.

To the question, I’m volunteering for several open seat and challenger lege candidates — canvassing and precinct coordination plus volunteering my professional skills as I can from home.

  49. - Southern Boy - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 6:26 pm:

Judy went to SPRINGFIELD for the State Fair…

Typical central Illinois attititude to assume that people are talking about the fair in Springfield. Guess that is the only one Topinka cares about too!

  50. - Anon - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 7:00 pm:

    Southern Boy,
Guess you weren’t watching, but Topinka WAS in the parade at the Duqoin State Fair!

  51. - Buck Flagojevich - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 7:03 pm:

Just when did Duquion become a state? If it has become the 51st state, then I’ll work for Blago to become governor of Duquoin.

  52. - Country Girl - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 7:12 pm:

This state cannot survive another 4 years of Blagotics. Every emergency service provided by this state is in the gutter. Ambulance Services cannot hire EMTs due to the problems and inattention of IDPH with the EMT licensure tests. Emergency Management cannot even manage an toilet bowl overflowing. The 911 program is down to one person managing all of the state of Illinois. If the public were aware the of the crisis in just these three areas of state government and the effect on the services they so depend, they would be horrified. Because of these problems, I’m working for Topinka. The day that the ambulance doesn’t come to pick up your mother, father, sister, brother or friend because there are no available EMTs just might be the day when you finally realize what Blagotics has done to this state!!

  53. - Bill - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 7:36 pm:

    Southern Boy….
Welcome aboard the good government express!

  54. - anonymous - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 7:58 pm:

I’m blogging for Blago. and putting on my tennies to walk precincts

  55. - Buck Flagojevich - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 7:58 pm:

Snarky comment. Sorry. Just had to get it off my chest.

  56. - So Blue Democrat - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 8:04 pm:

This is one Democrat that will volunteer on behalf of Judy. I do not care if she shows up for any fair as long as she can administer state government. The present administration has failed from day one.

  57. - Walking Wounded - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 8:13 pm:

Blagojevich ignores the part of the State south of I-80 for four years and when he FINALLY shows up at the DuQuoin fair, he’s hailed as such a great guy. I guess some people are easier to placate than others.

  58. - Roger Kaputnik - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 8:16 pm:

I’m gonna be helping Dan Lewandowski defeat Republican State Senator Dave Syverson in Rockford. The district is 55% Democratic and Syverson is useless. Well no, actually Syverson has been effective at oe thing and that is fooling a few labor leaders into supporting him and thinking he has done something.
Everyone whom Rockford has elected is a joke, and they wonder why Rockford is taken seriously in Springfield. Sure, Mr. Lewandowski is young and inexperienced, but I will take my chances on him, seeing what the others’ “experience” has gotten us.

  59. - todd - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 8:27 pm:

I have been working for five months on the Dr. Eric Wallace for State Senate #19 campaign. This man has a great chance of winning this race.

  60. - Squideshi - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 9:12 pm:

I forgot to mention that I may also be helping Dorian Breuer, the Green that’s going to win the 2-way State Senate race in the 1st District!

  61. - Ronnie Dobbs - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 9:17 pm:

Thats pretty funny Rexy…you guys act so paranoid, you don’t think people know you have a big fat “R” on your forehead? Face it, Republicans aren’t the targets you all think they are. There are plenty of YOU in state government despite the fact you think your being eliminated…it makes a good excuse for you to not support a candidate that cannot excite any of your party faitful.

  62. - Snidely Whiplash - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 9:55 pm:

If I answered those two questions, I don’t think I’d be anonymous anymore, so I’ll respectfully decline (I now, so why am I posting here? Good point). With that said, I will say that I’ll be working (hopefully) for a change in business as usual, and I see the numerous Blago/Toddler posts as those of government workers doing what they must do to keep their jobs, or secure a promotion or transfer. I don’t think most paid people would I.D. themselves in a thread like this. And certainly, I can’t see how anyone would possibly “volunteer” for Vladgo or Toddler out of a strong belief in what they stand for. This seems to be quite the hangout for political types.

  63. - Barbara Carney - Wednesday, Aug 30, 06 @ 10:30 pm:

We’ll be working for Pat McGuire, in the Will County Treasurer race. He’s the best candidate we’ve seen for political office in Illinois to surface in some time and someone to watch.

  64. - Deb Dumont - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 12:35 am:

I’ll be working hard for Bill Spears in Ricca’s old district. Damn shame she was such a pig and unapproachable. Folks hated her. This is a Dem district/Schock is too out of touch for Peorians.

  65. - anon - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 5:26 am:

Topinka/Birkett, because it’s the lesser of two evils.

  66. - Disgusted - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 7:33 am:

Southern Boy - you sure are easy to please. You need to get out of your small town more and pay more attention to the governing of this state, instead of being impressed by glad-handing and fake smiles. He could care less about you or any part of Illinois, including Chicago, as long as he gets to go to Washington, D.C.

  67. - Squideshi - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 8:41 am:

The lesser of two evils is still an evil.

  68. - foa - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 11:14 am:

I’m waiting for Amy Stockwell’s next campaign. I was already for her run for Congress or was it state representative or state senator?
I know she will be running soon for something else again. Maybe VP with Clinton?

  69. - Establishment Republican - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 3:54 pm:

I will be doing what I can for all Republicans, but most likely mainly for:

Radogno (I’ll make sure I know how to spell it first)
    Matt Murphy
    Sid Mathias

  70. - Craig - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 10:29 pm:

I will be working on the Rock Island area campaigns.

    but mainly… Phil Hare

  71. - Alicia Snyder - Thursday, Aug 31, 06 @ 11:59 pm:

What kind of Greenish event? WE ARE EVERYWHERE!!! Where are you? As for IVI-IPO endorsement, you must have missed 2 of our candidates, DORIAN BREUER & PHIL HUCKELBERRY. They have both received IVI-IPO endorsement. As for active campaign events, go to ILGP.ORG or WHITNEYFORGOV.ORG, we can hook you up with one of the many events in Chicago or statewide to Be Green & Be Seen!!!!

  72. - WWDMD - Friday, Sep 1, 06 @ 12:47 am:

  73. - WWDMD - Friday, Sep 1, 06 @ 12:51 am:

  74. - anon - Friday, Sep 1, 06 @ 4:14 am:

    Establishment Republican:
You’ll be working for Sid Mathias? WHY? You’ve got to be kidding.

  75. - Kevin Fitzgerald - Saturday, Sep 2, 06 @ 10:10 pm:

I’m volunteering to walk with Joe Serra in his Campaign for State Representative in the 50th District. Joe Serra is an amazing guy, a great democratic candidate, a family man with six children and a great wife Janet. Joe is working to increase State funding of school systems and a reduction of property taxes which in our district have increase exponentially over the last 15 years. Joe has some really GREAT IDEAS for the State. Amazing ideas, I’m surprised at the things he is proposing. It’s very exciting!

  76. - chris - Tuesday, Sep 26, 06 @ 11:13 am:

I am absolutly amazed that Tony Peraica claims to be a reformer. He actually said on the news, “The days of corruption and NEPATISIM must end. Can he explaijn the fact his son Marco has a county job.
