This just in… Part 3 *** Updated x2 ***
Friday, Jun 1, 2007 - Posted by Rich Miller * Just after midnight, the Senate takes up SB5, which is the guv’s health insurance bill. Right now, they’re doing amendments. * 12:15am - The actual bill won’t be called. They passed the “guts” of the proposal on an amendment, which passed with less than 30 votes (29-28). It will be tough to claim a victory on this one, even though the amendment passed. * 12:18am - An amendment to a different bill to exempt riverboats from the smoking ban just failed.

Now that it is after midnight, does it take 3/5 to pass a bill?
- UPDATES - Friday, Jun 1, 07 @ 12:10 am:
Looks like Republicans are going to caucus - running out the clock?
Will they come back and declare it June 1?
- Norseman - Friday, Jun 1, 07 @ 12:13 am:
I don’t think it matters. What you’re seeing is the proof that Jones still has the muscle to get his will, regardless of all the antics.
Announced that the bill will not be called.

If we did our jobs like this, we would all be on the dole.

- 9.6% Solution - Friday, Jun 1, 07 @ 6:35 am:
The ‘legislature’ did manage to come up with significant assistance…..for themselves:
9.6% raise retroactive to January.
State workers that have not had a raise in four years and are now LUCKY IF THEY GET A $100/MONTH RAISE, are completely disgusted by these thieves. Why don’t they just get rid of all the workers then they wouldn’t have to worry about them at all? Just hire all of Emil’s family.
Absolutely criminal.

I’m glad the Senate had the wisdom to vote no on the casino exemption. The American Gaming Association has given up fighting smoking bans, as they realize it’s a losing bet. Who would know better the guys who bank on the odds? Besides isn’t one addiction enough?
- Big Al - Friday, Jun 1, 07 @ 7:16 am:
Addictions are more entertaining when bundled.

All this talk about what a poor lot “these politicians” are does bring to mind the greatest comic strip line ever: Pogo circa 1970ish; “We have met the enemy and he is us”
Come on folks these guys are elected by the good people of the State of Illinois. It is a government that we elected and deserve, damn it.
- Any Kodak Moments - Friday, Jun 1, 07 @ 7:44 am:
9.6% RAISE ! ! ! ! Thought there was no money!
- Lincoln Log - Friday, Jun 1, 07 @ 7:49 am:
There’s always money for what’s important…even if we have to steal it from the pensions to get it.
