* 4:00 - Leadership meeting is now over. Cross went out a side door to avoid reporters. Watson said no progress.

Madigan said that Jones hasn’t accepted or rejected his slow growth budget bill.

Paul will have audio in a bit. Cross finally talked and said that this was a meeting that had to happen but there wasn’t much resolved.

Considering all of the GOP squawking, this might be Todd Stroger’s first and last chance to get state aid for Cook County Hospital. If he wants that $100 million, he better call the Senate President.

  2. - Bill - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:00 pm:

All of a sudden, YDD, Mr. HB 750, wants a “slow growth” budget. What happened?

  3. - Blago Must Go - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:13 pm:

The only sure thing that has come out of this governorship Is that Blago is incredibly incompetent and quite possibly the most corrupt Governor this state has ever had. BLAGO MUST GO.

  4. - Leigh - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:21 pm:

    No Governor?

  5. - Fed up - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:23 pm:

Emil doesnt know what to do until Blago tells him and blago is watching cartoons and listening to elvis records. The state is doomed.

  6. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:25 pm:

The question remains. Was the governor at work in his workplace in Springfield? Did he participate? Will he be there all week?

  7. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:28 pm:

Anybody else having problems with the audio files?

  8. - Gas ! $5.00 per gallon - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:29 pm:

Blago is busy with his posse of attorneys deciding who’s going to get thrown under the bus next.

  9. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:33 pm:

The Chipmunks have scored a coup and are now in charge. That or someone put Nix in the blender.

  10. - Bill - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:34 pm:

    A Citizen,
Why do you think that the Governor’s “workplace” is in Springfield? He is Governor of the whole state and one of his official offices is in the Thompson Center.

  11. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:39 pm:

Bill, I understand that however, the face to face budget talks are in Springfield. After Nix’s 5 day workweek comment on the gov’s behalf I would expect, if not demand, his presence and participation. Sorta put up or shutup time. Get to WORK, no more PR and campaign rhetoric and no more AWOL from governing.

  12. - B Hicks - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:40 pm:

Bill, why do you waste your time?

  13. - Bill - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:43 pm:

I think that Sheila was talking about herself, her administrative team and the legislators. I don’t think that she referred to the governor. Besides the Cubs are in town.

  14. - Downstate Jr. - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:45 pm:

    Bill,

I wouldn’t trust anyone who wants to negotiate a $50 billion + budget over the phone. I think something as significant as the budget deserves a face to face. That is a face to face without the stump speeches.

  15. - Cat - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:46 pm:

Bill - Blago hasn’t had much face time at the Thompson Center either. He is spending his time in his campaign office or jogging. Neither qualifies as gubernatorial activity.

  16. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:46 pm:

And the Cards play tonight. Go Cards !

  17. - Downstate Jr. - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:46 pm:

1.4 million people without health insurance…

  18. - Joe Schmoe - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:47 pm:

Bill, You are really fantisizing on this one. Where is your boy? Out for a jog?

  19. - Bill - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:48 pm:

    A,
    Finally, we agree. Go Cards!

  20. - Anon - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 5:49 pm:

The Gov. was and still is in Springfield. If you have to ask, maybe should not be posting here as an expert.

  21. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 6:10 pm:

Thanks for the update, sorry the question made you so testy. Tough week already, huh!

  22. - The alleged governor - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 6:12 pm:

They sent out one of the girls to tell the press tonight that the fact the leaders met today means they did what Rod commanded. De-lose-ional.

  23. - steven - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 6:22 pm:

Maybe if you weren’t so sexist, “alleged”, you would have a lot more friends.

  24. - Overtime Prediction - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 6:30 pm:

I think most of you are being too harsh regarding the Governor’s work ethic - after 4 years of continuous campaigning, the guy needs a little down time.

  25. - Truth - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 6:33 pm:

If Blagojevich is present, can they still call it a “leaders” meeting?

  26. - Leigh - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 6:50 pm:

Alleged, gotta call you on this one. Those women are professionals not “girls”. If a female is over the age of 18 she is a woman. Just because they work for a clown doesn’t mean they aren’t women.

  27. - Hannibal - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 7:05 pm:

A cannibal entered the meat market to buy something nice for dinner. The owner greeted him and told him to look around. The cannibal began to inspect the meat case and noticed the market specialized in brain.

Upon further inspection he noticed a marked disparity between the costs of brain meats. A carpenter’s brain sells for $15.50 per pound. A plumber’s brain sells for $20.25 per pound. He noticed with alarm that a blago’s brain sells for $50,000.00 a pound. With not a little curiosity he asked the owner why the huge difference in price between the similar meats.

The owner responded with a deadpan look on his face, “Don’t you realize how small of a brain a blago has?”

  28. - Lt. Guv - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 7:16 pm:

A correction - the Cubs, that juggernaut with a 2 game winning streak - is in Milwaukee tonight. . . Not, Chicago.

  29. - Long Time Reader; First Time Poster - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 7:49 pm:

Bill, in reference to your question at 5:34 p.m.:

“Sec. 1. That the seat of government shall continue to be at Springfield, in the County of Sangamon, at which place all acts shall be done which are required to be done at the seat of government: Provided, that they may be done at some other place, to be designated by the Governor, when it is necessary in consequence of pestilence [pandemic] or public danger.”

    Source: 5 ILCS 190/1

I don’t think that wanting to sleep in your own bed or job around your own block qualifies as a pandemic or issue of public danger.

  30. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 7:55 pm:

    - Long Time Reader; - Never forget that when the Legislature is in Session, No Man’s Life, Liberty, or Property Are Safe !!

  31. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 7:57 pm:

And which acts, by statute, are “required to be done at the seat of government” - precious few, I bet.

  32. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 8:40 pm:

Rich, was Michelle holding Paul’s recorder? She thinks he’s “dreamy”, you know?

  33. - Papa Legba - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 8:51 pm:

    Anonymous @ 7:57 pm:

An act that should occur in the seat of government would be to govern. But we all know Rod is incapable of that act.

  34. - not politically correct - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 9:03 pm:

LOL, leigh, I’m well over 18 and much prefer to be called a girl than a woman. A woman is at least my mother’s age and I don’t want that. Girl is preferable. But that’s an aside. Blago is such a joke, if he wants 5 day work weeks, where was he while we were in session for the past several months?

  35. - A Citizen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 9:09 pm:

    - not politically correct - Woman, girl, ??? How about Babes? As in there’s gonna be a dustup between the Babes on CapFax!

  36. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 10:40 pm:

Way to go, Bill, my man. The thread starts out bashing your guy and ends up debating feminist stuff. Well done. Cards win?

  37. - hardcorelimitedgovtrepublican - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 10:45 pm:

    YES, Cards WIN!!!!!

  38. - Polly - Tuesday, Jun 5, 07 @ 10:52 pm:

women, girls… come on guys, what’s the difference really. it’s the good ol’ boys club in springfield; at the end of the day, we’re all dolls and broads anyway, right?

  39. - Loop Lady - Wednesday, Jun 6, 07 @ 8:18 am:

You go Polly…do ya think the overtime session would have occurred if the the four tops were women?
Blago isn’t the only Dem leader concerned about the perception of his TESTICULAR VIRILITY…us ladies don’t have ‘em, sure as heck don’t want ‘em if they
are the encumbrance to leadership they seem to be…
