Question of the day

Tuesday, Apr 30, 2013

* I’ve seen Senate President Pro Tempore Don Harmon play guitar. I’ve gone to several gigs by Reps. Mike Tryon and Chad Hays (although I missed last night’s performance). I didn’t know that Rep. Martwick played in a band, however

Robert F. Martwick, Illinois House of Representative, 19th District, sported a different persona Sat., Apr. 27, when he and the Chris N group rocked in Phyllis’ Musical Inn, 1800 W. Division St.

While Martwick tucked the guitar away when he was close to 9-years-old and when years later he told his bride that he wasn’t going to run for a political office again, Saturday night was proof that life can take unexpected turns.

  1. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Apr 30, 13 @ 12:27 pm:

So you want to be a rock ‘n’ roll star?
Then listen now to what I say
    Just get an electric guitar
    Then take some time
    and learn how to play
And with your hair swung right
    And your pants too tight
    It’s gonna be all right

Then it’s time to go downtown
Where the agent man won’t let you down
Sell your soul to the company
Who are waiting there to sell plastic ware
And in a week or two
    If you make the charts
    The girls’ll tear you apart

The price you paid for your riches and fame
Was it all a strange game?
    You’re a little insane
The money, the fame, the public acclaim
    Don’t forget what you are
    You’re a rock ‘n’ roll star!

  2. - OneMan - Tuesday, Apr 30, 13 @ 12:31 pm:

    Re-Election Blues …

    Got per diem on Monday
I’m not a Mushroom no more
    They gimme all that money
So much my pockets is sore
More dough than I can use.
    Re-Election Blues.

    Went on Vacation on Tuesday
Got a room and a big double bed
    Find a job tomorrow
So tired felt like I was dead
    Aint no time to lose.
    Re-Election Blues.

    Hit the bars on Wednesday
My friends put me up on a throne
    Got the bar tab later
    Swore I’d start drinking alone!!
Did my Signed Bill make the News?
    Re-Election Blues!

    Woke up sick on Thursday
Feelin like my head took a dare
    Looked down at my trousers
    All my pockets was bare
This being my last Session was a ruse.
    Re-Election Blues.

    Went back around on Friday
Asked for my seat on the Floor
    My friends had disappeared
Speaker says, “Show him the Door!”
What I done then aint news.
    Re-Election Blues.

    So I re-filed on Monday
A little sad and sick at my heart
All my fine plans was with my money
Go away, a campaign needs to start
“This guy never seems to lose.”
    Re-Election Blues.

So you short-timers, let me tell you
Dont get yourself throwed from your seat
You might as well be runnin’
    Or a Thirty-Year-Man
Staff Recruitin crews give me the blues,
    Old Re-Election Blues.
