* A little too Rutherfordesque, perhaps?

I didn’t realize that deer sausage was a substitute for ice cream.

    A substitute? No.

    A topping? Yes.

  2. - Mason born - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:06 pm:

That’s the new “Hey i’m Folksy flavor from Ben and Jerry’s”

  3. - Cincinnatus - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:07 pm:

He usually stops and buys a Dairy Queen…

  4. - ChicagoR - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:08 pm:

Does DQ have a flavor called “Road Kill”?

  5. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:11 pm:

“I do not always eat deer sausage.

But when I do, I wear my Carhartt jacket.”

  6. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:13 pm:

I think Cincinnatus may be right. I simply misread the Tweet.

  7. - Stop - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:13 pm:

Dan & Bruce (sounds like a Chicago radio duo) should realize that the best thing they could do for the GOP & Illinois: Dan seek re-election and Bruce help finance winning candidates for Cross & Radogno and support someone who can win in the general: Dillard.

  8. - Montrose - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:13 pm:

Deer-based dairy products are the next cronut.

  9. - Roadiepig - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:14 pm:

What he was saying was once he had his fill of (free, btw) red meat he didn’t crave his usual DQ triple cheeseburger this afternoon…

  10. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:15 pm:

    ===He usually stops and buys a Dairy Queen… ===

How many franshises does he own now?

  11. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:16 pm:

Or maybe “Dairy Queen stop” is some sort of Enron-style high finance code. Perhaps Wordslinger can elaborate.

  12. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:17 pm:

They do have Moose Tracks ice cream.

  13. - LincolnLounger - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:18 pm:

Quick, somebody tell him that the Government Union Bosses celebrate their control over Illinois government with Dilly Bars! That’ll keep him out.

  14. - TCB - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:19 pm:

If their deer sausage is anything like the stuff I whip up, I’d choose it over DQ too.

  15. - Darienite - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:20 pm:

Sounds like none of you have tried the venison blizzard - yummy!!

  16. - Chavez-respecting Obamist - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:21 pm:

I find it interesting he picks a company with almost no web presence to tweet about. I think someone should call them and find out if he really stopped by and if they really fed him.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:28 pm:

    How delicious (no pun intended)!

    - Cincinnatus - for the “Post of the Day”.

    To the Post,

Golly, Bruce Rauner can tweet about how folksy he is, but how about instead of blaming everyone and their brother, and shking cores, how about Bruce Rauner tweets about Constitutionality?

You get one … goofy tweet Rauner Crew …you always get … one.

  18. - A guy... - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:29 pm:

Anyone who has to try so hard to be a regular guy ain’t a regular guy. Someone should tell Bruce you don’t have to be one of the guys to be one of the govs. Can anyone picture Bloomberg trying to pull this off in NY? Just say it Bruce; I’m a wildly rich guy, I got that way cause I’m smart and no one’s got enough dough to bribe me. Then post a picture with Deer jerky in one hand and a Reese’s pieces Blizzard in the other one. Real guys can connect to that.

  19. - Midstate Indy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:35 pm:

Rutherford’s facebook page showed him in Ogle Co. today. Wonder if they caught up in Bolingbrook for a treadmill race into the city?

  20. - Quizzical - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:37 pm:

By the end of the year he’ll be opening his stump speech with a series of ‘I knew I was a redneck’ jokes.

….When there was a disabled washing machine on the lawn older than any wine in my cellar.

…when we started allowing canned beer on the side of the infinity pool.

…when we all line danced the time Reba McIntyre played at my birthday party.

  21. - Steve - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:38 pm:

    Bruce is so authentic.

  22. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:40 pm:

This actually sounds like a stolen tweet from the “Oswego Willy, soccermom, AA and Friends” caravan tour of Illinois, lol

  23. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:42 pm:

    “I do not always tweet.

But when I do, I prefer wearing my Carhartt jacket.”

The Most Interesting Bruce in the World

  24. - Chicago Cynic - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:44 pm:

Ok, maybe I’m wrong about Rauner’s potential. This level of inauthenticity is more than a bit OTT.

  25. - soccermom - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:46 pm:

    That’s right, FKA — rub it in…

  26. - soccermom - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:46 pm:

Not to harsh your mellow, Bruce, but are you aware of Chronic Wasting Disease?

  27. - Downstate - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:47 pm:

To steal a line from Mayor Rahm.
It doesn’t qualify him if he’s a regular guy, but it shouldn’t disqualify him either.

  28. - Langhorne - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:49 pm:

    Tweetle dum, tweetle dee
    I am a regular guy,
    Cant you see?

    Bruce-a shave

  29. - Lil Squeezy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:52 pm:

Any common man knows DQ has delicious cheeseburgers. Shows how out of touch you people are.

I can only imagine how great the fence company’s deer sausage was. I love imagining him eating it.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 4:53 pm:

    - Soccermom -

If the OW/Bill Ticket does a “Bus Tour” will you work with - Norseman - on the race?

    To the Post,

@FakeBruceRauner - We were upset that @DairyQueen had no foie gras flavor, just vanilla and chocolate. How do the little people cope? #ChampagneWishes #CaviarDreams

  31. - soccermom - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:01 pm:

Considering that I envision Norseman as Eric Northman on True Blood - absolutely!

  32. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:02 pm:

“Dairy Queen Stop” =short cattle futures.

    “Deer Sausage”=short John Deere.

    Shhh. Don’t tell.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:06 pm:

===Considering that I envision Norseman as Eric Northman on True Blood - absolutely!===

    STOP!

The very first time I saw - Norseman - I literally thought the same thing! No joke, no snark.

    - Soccermon -, we are thinking fall, to see the changing of the leaves, and figure about 12 days … - AA - is good about getting the travel done, so …

    To the Post,

@FakeBruceRauner - We got to use a dollar bill, and even a 5 dollar bill for the first time! How fun for us! #NoBillsSmallerThanFiftys

  34. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:10 pm:

Ugh. Could Farmer Bruce’s cow-pie-kicker act be more forced or phony?

He’s a Harvard MBA who ran an $8 billion LaSalle Street private equity firm (love skimming those pension funds), lives in Winnetka and is on the board of Ravinia.

Check out the website for GTCR, Farmer Bruce’s old homestead — do those dudes look Dairy Queen and deer sausage to you? http://www.gtcr.com/

Rauner’s banking loads of maxed-out individual contributions from Wall Street, the Gold Coast, the North Shore and Beverly Hills.

“Mr. Smith Goes to Springfield,” he ain’t.

And, dude, it’s summer — if you’re going to run TV spots now, take off the coat!

  35. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:12 pm:

===Check out the website for GTCR, Farmer Bruce’s old homestead — do those dudes look Dairy Queen and deer sausage to you? ===

No, but this GTCR universe master has a freakishly gigantic skull http://www.gtcr.com/wp-content/themes/GTCR/images/carousel-leaders-home3.jpg

I mean, man, that puts Jay Hoffman’s noggin to shame.

  36. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:15 pm:

–I can only imagine how great the fence company’s deer sausage was. I love imagining him eating it.–

Lil Squeezy, maybe keep some of your imaginings to yourself.

  37. - Chavez-respecting Obamist - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:18 pm:

Rich, that guy looks like a bad Photoshop image–someone stuck his head on a body that’s too small.

  38. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:27 pm:

@FakeBruceRauner - We are sitting in unreserved lawn seats @Rivinia, drinking American wine w/grocery store cheese & crackers to boot! #HighBrowSlummingIt

  39. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:40 pm:

That little bald guy behind the dude with the big melon flies a private jet. Another man of the People. #RaunerTwo

  40. - Chicago Cynic - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:41 pm:

Rich, for a second I thought that was a picture of George W. Bush. Yeesh, what a big head. Couldn’t they get a decent photog?

  41. - railrat - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:49 pm:

dear Bruce as a retired construction worker let your Carhartt jacket “age” with deer grease and everything else Illinois offers, heck when I trapped to provide income during the late 70’s Beaver and Muskrat “sealed” Carhartt perfectly. If to tough for you dry clean so the fringes don’t fray, your jacket will fade and your illusion as a “real guy” will prevail !!! lol

  42. - Raymond - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 5:58 pm:

Well, I hope he had the good sense to wash that venison down with a Stag!

  43. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 6:02 pm:

@FakeBruceRauner - Phony Phony Phony “Phony Phony Phony” - Phony Phony, Phony! #PhonyPhony #Phony

  44. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 6:08 pm:

Just wishful thinking on my part, soccermom. Most of us could probably use a nice trip through the state right about now.

Whatever most of us may be doing at the moment, it probably doesn’t compare to eating ice cream, roaming the banks of the Mississippi or exploring summer parades and festivals around Illinois.

All for very serious political research purposes. Of course.

  45. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 6:13 pm:

–Whatever most of us may be doing at the moment, it probably doesn’t compare to eating ice cream, roaming the banks of the Mississippi or exploring summer parades and festivals around Illinois.–

Beats going to Wrigley or Cominskey this summer — woof. It’s been a while since both teams were so bad at the same time.

(I know, you Cards fans are having a different experience).

  46. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 6:17 pm:

    - Formerly Known As… -,

We are all waiting on YOU to get the itinerary mapped out, Casinos and all. I got to start prepping for - 47th Ward -.

  47. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 6:20 pm:

@FakeJasonPlummer-Dad, I could get back “in”
with all these Kool People if I could borrow your Million $$ Motorhome and loan it out for the AWilBilMomNorse Fall Tour
    #PleasePlease #ILoveRoadTripsToo

  48. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 6:24 pm:

word, hop on the bus. We’ll work in a stop at Busch Stadium just for you.

  49. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 7:10 pm:

lol, I’m on it ladies and gents!

Sounds like we’re looking at a target date around late summer/early fall. Lining up buses for the caravan as we speak. Minimum of 3.

Oh, the places we’ll go and the things we’ll see…

  50. - Norseman - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 10:03 pm:

Wow! It’s been one of those days. I almost missed the bus (tour). Soccermom, you made my day with this: “Considering that I envision Norseman as Eric Northman on True Blood - absolutely!” Willy added to the ego trip. I’ll refrain from ruining your vision.

My previous reputation with soccermoms was that I was a “tight***” while serving as treasurer for my son’s soccer club.

  51. - In the Town - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 11:10 pm:

Who is he kidding. He usually stops by Oberweis if he can’t get some fresh roadkill.

  52. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 31, 13 @ 11:15 pm:

    - Norseman -

Gotta have ya on the bus tour, no need to worry…

  53. - galaxy s4 - Thursday, Aug 1, 13 @ 4:57 am:

Useful info. Fortunate me I discovered your site by chance, and I am surprised why this coincidence didn’t happened in advance! I bookmarked it.

  54. - MrJM - Thursday, Aug 1, 13 @ 11:38 am:

Intended message: I’m a regular guy.

Actual Message: I am a genuine, regular-type humanoid unit.
