…Adding… More just came over the transom. Wanna guess who owned this company, which hired Illinois Statehouse lobbyists to defeat a ban on its product?

More than 50 countries have banned use of the chemical; In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency prohibits all agricultural uses of lindane. Oddly, it’s still OK to rub it into children’s hair.

Forget whether Philip Morris ever gave Justice Karmeier any funny money.

How much is Governor Quinn paying Doug Ibendahl? And if Governor Quinn wins reelection, does Doug become chief legal counsel?

  2. - J - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:28 pm:

Has anyone figured out why Kirk Dillard didn’t hire a competent researcher?

He would’ve beaten Rauner if he had even a tenth of what Quinn and Labor have dropped.

  3. - paddyrollingstone - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:28 pm:

    Wow. What a humanitarian.

  4. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:30 pm:

=== beaten Rauner if he had even a tenth of what Quinn and Labor have dropped. ===

Meh. A lot of that stuff was dug up by Ibendahl, and/or whoever might be helping Doug, before the primary.

  5. - walker - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:31 pm:

Yet another Rauner-owned healthcare company, leveraged, then bailed out on when they got in trouble with the Feds.

Illegal “price-gouging” charges for a drug for babies? Could it look worse?

This is getting to be like a tragic opera.

  6. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:32 pm:

It’s only “new” now, because it’s suppose to be “new” now.

    That’s the game.

  7. - yo - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:40 pm:

If Bruce Rauner and his business dealings aren’t the best argument for democratic socialism I have ever seen..

  8. - Snucka - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:42 pm:

This should be required reading for every Illinois voter. Anyone who has been following this campaign can see that Mr. Rauner is a very sick man. He made his fortune without regard for the effects he was having on humanity. In a truly just society, I believe Mr. Rauner would be in prison. Instead he stands on the precipice of the highest office in our great state. I can’t believe that the voter of Illinois, good and true, will hand the keys to their beloved state to a maniac. These will be two very nerve-wracking weeks for those of us who understand the stakes.

  9. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:43 pm:

Oh, dear God, the governor is commenting on the blog.

Compassionate conservatism in 2014- take as much as you can, give a little back and call yourself a philanthropist

  11. - Commonsense in Illinois - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:45 pm:

You know, this election is getting so topsy-turvy that I can see a Bush/Gore scenario playing out…except I doubt Mr. Rauner would ever concede and drag the election into court…Hello Governor Vallas/Sanguinetti!

  12. - FormerParatrooper - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:56 pm:

With all the dirty laundry, why would Rauner place himself in the public eye for scrutiny?
Is there some form of mental imbalance that people have to do this?

  13. - Levi - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:57 pm:

The real scandal is the font on those timeline memos, amIright?

  14. - circular firing squad - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:57 pm:

Both links are good. Doug probably should have leaked his stuff to someone else and real media may have used. All this just adds more chapters on why Mitt won’t cut it as giv if he wins. ..but uf he wins he starts running for president nov 5

  15. - How Ironic - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:57 pm:

I sure hope Quinn can bust out another ad highlighting Brucie holding parents with critcally ill children hostage…while he’s stuffing the pockets of his Carhart with cash.

The guy is a total sleazebag.

  16. - Skeptic - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:57 pm:

Maybe that’s his “plan”, don’t raise taxes, but raise “fees” 1,300%. $2000 for a license plate anyone?

  17. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 4:58 pm:

    Rich:

Seems like the folks over at Freedom Central buried the lede just far enough below the surface that someone could “discover it.”

Rauner was in the room when they were talking about the Wingnut using company dollars to take a potential business partner to strip clubs in Texas.

    STRIP CLUBS.

This is bad. Really bad for Rauner.

  18. - Lester Holt's Mustache - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:01 pm:

Despicable, and seemingly par for the course in Bruce’s world - but I doubt it makes a difference as far as the election is concerned.
Which newspaper is going to report any of this? The one that suspends or fires journalists for reporting negative stories about Bruce, or the paper that was in the tank for him the whole time? Like someone else here said, there are maybe 3 members of the Illinois media that aren’t either scared to death of Bruce or already in his pocket.

  19. - Jimbo - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:05 pm:

First it’s grandma, now babies? Where’s A Guy to defend Rauner, this paragon of virtue today?

  20. - too obvious - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:05 pm:

    You nailed it YDD.

It seems when Bruce and the boys weren’t thinking of ways to squeeze more money from parents with very sick babies, they were sitting around talking about entertaining executives at strip clubs.

  21. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:07 pm:

@ Team Sleep, oh, right cause the scandal is why this is being dug up not the evidence found. come on. this stuff is horrible. Bruce performs greedy corporate acts over and over again. he is not good for women and children in any way at all. world class jerk.

  22. - Belle - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:07 pm:

Holy poo poo. It doesn’t surprise me at all. You see stories like this on “60 Mins”, etc. The big shocker is that since it was bound to come out, he either thought it was something to be proud of or couldn’t perceive that many of us would understand that it is pretty despicable.

  23. - Jimbo - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:14 pm:

Oh. My. Lord. I just read the second link. First, Bruce loses all business cred for Comic Sans, second, “It scared the s*** out of me”. Wow. Just wow.

People like Bruce don’t think this stuff matters because they never do anything wrong (”I’ve been successful at everything I’ve ever done”). Seriously, he has to have some kind of complex to have thought he could get by with all the skeletons in his closet. I suppose he’ll just say they’re for Halloween lol.

  24. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:16 pm:

You folks should remember, and I’m no Raunerbot, that he wasn’t making decisions by himself. He had a batch of associates and partners along with “genius” CEOs that sourced all these deals and negotiated the terms. He says, and some facts confirm, that he was the salesman, not the numbers guy.

It’s disgusting, but it’s a reach to go from “portfolio company jacked prices on lifesaving medicine” to “Rauner jacked prices on portfolio company’s lifesaving medicine” without a lot more evidence.
The unions should save their money. “He said she said he said” has never been too compelling. Now the “taking clients to Gentlemens’ Clubs is how we do business in Texas” is a classic line even in Comic Sans.

  25. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:19 pm:

YDD, great minds, even from different parties lol

  26. - steve schnorf - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:19 pm:

I read the second link first also, and thought “Oh my God!” This sort of stuff is the death knell for a candidate if enough people find out about it. Bruce, if Charlie Sheen comes up to you in a snowy field some where, don’t talk to him.

  27. - too obvious - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:24 pm:

If someone finds GTCR board minutes where Rauner suggested giving parents free samples of their toxic shampoo to help ease the pain of the price gouging on a life saving baby drug, would that get any of the Illinois media out of the tank?

    Probably not.

  28. - Macbeth - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:45 pm:

Rauner certainly has Quinn beat in the sleaze factor.

    Rauner is a sleaze.

  29. - anon - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:48 pm:

Ibendahl is a bird dog. Good for him in uncovering the truth. Those who attack his motives apparently can’t attack his facts.

  30. - PolPal56 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:52 pm:

AA, conversely, any businessperson who decides he or she wants a trophy governorship should remember that the general public is going to look at the type of business dealings he or she has been involved with and the business decisions he or she has influenced, to whatever extent.

  31. - OldSmoky2 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:53 pm:

I guess we know why he didn’t want to talk about his businesses last night.

  32. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:53 pm:

Rubbing toxic ooze in kids’ hair is bad. Republicans can see past it though.

But GOP voters are generally unaccepting of candidates who condone - nay, applaud - using the company account to visit strip clubs.

I mean, if he is gonna run Illinois like a business, will DCEO be taking NJ execs out to clubs on the company dime? I assume as long as there is no liquor involved, it may even be legal.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 5:57 pm:

    You’re better than that.

    “Republicans”…

    Again, you’re better than that.

  34. - James formerly from Wrigley - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:06 pm:

I think one can be a BAD person and still be a good governor. I’m voting for Rauner to fix the state’s economy not deal with workplace violence.

  35. - PublicServant - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:07 pm:

Frankly Willy, while I know you’re better than that, I’m not sure about much of the people who will vote for lice king regardless of their knowledge of his sleaze factor.

  36. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:09 pm:

@James, how nice that you think that workplace violence does not matter. so hoping I do not know you.

  37. - Macbeth - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:14 pm:

Why is the media ignoring this stuff? Is it too late in the campaign?

  38. - Lester Holt's Mustache - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:23 pm:

Macbeth - because they are afraid they will get suspended/fired after Bruce calls their editors?

  39. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:27 pm:

    Sorry, Willy.

If it makes you feel any better, Democrats were more than happy to ignore Monica Lewinsky because Clinton was the kind of guy who opposes toxic gunk in kid’s hair.

But Republicans voted lockstep each year against consumer protections that would unseal court settlements hiding public hazards.

I do not recall anyone ever losing a primary because of it.

  40. - Confused - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:30 pm:

Silliness. Seriously, lindane is a perfectly safe treatment for lice. It’s a relief when someone actually fights to keep a useful medication from being sidelined due to false fears.

== “It’s only “new” now, because it’s suppose to be “new” now. That’s the game.” ==

“More than 50 countries have banned use of the chemical; In the U.S., EPA prohibits all agricultural uses of lindane. Oddly, it’s still OK to rub it into children’s hair”

Uh, hope it’s not your kid.

  42. - Confused - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:34 pm:

Ok, and on the indomethacin, you can use ibuprofen instead for PDAs. And the price went up from pennies to dollars for the indomethacin. Again, silliness.

  43. - Wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:35 pm:

Tough choices for the Quinn crew in producing spots at this late point, but I’d prioritize like this:

    1. Gouging babies dying from cancer. The quotes from the Bush appointees are devastating: “illegal,” “immoral,” “forced to pay millions more for life-saving medications.”

If they only do one, that’s the one. Media will have to run the story if there is a spot. Rauner will have to respond in legalese. And that spot could be the ball game when put in rotation with the other negative spots already out there. Could be the most powerful negative spot ever with the cred provided by the Bush appointees.

    2. Selling poison to put on your kids heads.

    3. Personally protecting crazy man with gun who slugged his secretary because he made him money. If this happened in Illinois, it would be 2.

Rauner is going to have to do a spot where he just talks to the camera and says don’t believe anything you hear about me. What else can he do? There are too many negative narratives to continue to respond to each one.

  44. - LinebackerII - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:41 pm:

Oppo and insider pundit snark will amount to nothing in the end. The electricity is in the air - the mood is for change, Rauner is going to win this one. Obama - Clinton and all their men can’t get Quinn back in again. Can’t wait to see how the Springfield insider class will try to sugar coat the Quinn post mortem and then try to save their own skins ! A lot of insider lips are going to be trying to attach themselves to the winners posterior in a futile attempt to stay relevant/on the payroll/preserve clout etc. Shake and Hammer is inevitable.

  45. - Levi - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:43 pm:

Linebacker, all I smell in the air is whatever you’re smoking.

  46. - Robert the Bruce - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:46 pm:

wow wordslinger, heck of a list.

Did GTCR not invest in Brady’s buddy’s pet euthanasia operation because it wasn’t shady enough?

  47. - James formerly from Wrigley - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:46 pm:

Amalia, one can care more about one item than another and still care about both items.

I do care about workplace violence. But it’s not as pressing an issue in Illinois as the economy. Is there a bill the state needs? Is there an inordinate amount of workplace violence in Illinois? Has either candidate proposed a workplace violence agenda?

Charles Barkley, Ty Cobb, terrible people great ballplayers. You wouldn’t pick them, I would.

I am trying to make a point that despite Rauner’s character concerns, I think he is the better choice for governor. I think it’s a point worth discussing instead of treating as self-evident. But I ramble…

  48. - OldSmoky2 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:47 pm:

“Oppo and insider pundit snark will amount to nothing in the end.”

Now everyone who comments on this site is an insider? Geez, better check into the benefits plan I guess I’m supposed to be getting.

  49. - Wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:47 pm:

James, I’ve heard of whistling past the graveyard, but you’re suffering from delusions.

  50. - OldSmoky2 - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:50 pm:

    “Rauner’s character concerns…”

Yeah, I guess no one can think of any reasons for Illinois voters to worry about character concerns in a gubernatorial candidate.

  51. - Macbeth - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 6:58 pm:

I do care about workplace violence. But it’s not as pressing an issue in Illinois as the economy.

You’ve got to be kidding me. They’re not mutually exclusive. They’re both important — but I’d place any kind of violence a notch or two — or twenty — ahead of *any* economic “concerns”.

  52. - James formerly from Wrigley - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:00 pm:

Oldsmoky2, I said “I think it’s a point worth discussing”. How did you interpret that to mean the exact opposite?: “No one can think of any reasons for Illinois voters to worry about character concerns”

  53. - Redux - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:03 pm:

YYD == Democrats were more than happy to ignore Monica Lewinsky because Clinton was the kind of guy who opposes toxic gunk in kid’s hair. ==

Had to read that a couple times to make sure I was understanding that that was not an off-color comment. Too funny.

  54. - James formerly from Wrigley - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:05 pm:

Macbeth - how many bills has your rep introduced to combat workplace violence? More than the broader economy or less? I watched all the debates, the topic did not come up, the economy did. After that debate did you even think, why didn’t they ask about workplace violence?

  55. - Down Here - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:07 pm:

Congratulations, Governor Quinn. You just got re-elected assuming your crack team of ad people produces another great compelling piece on this story and it gets out ASAP. Run no other ads but this one. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the only question now is by how many points Quinn wins.
And despite having GOP friends planning to vote for Rauner, ANYONE who votes for him after this revelation–not to mention all the others–should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I hope the Republican Party is proud of their standard-bearer.

  56. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:08 pm:

That is the play, sadly, and tragically sad.

Joe Slade White can handle it.

    Sickened by these revelations.

    - YDD -,

Rauner supporters, like Clinton supporters are supporters of the candidate more in these instances, that was my point, Bud.

You’re better than lumping party as the mitigating factor.

  57. - Juice - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:09 pm:

James, as the Governor of the State of Illinois, he would be the chief executive of State Government, with it’s 50,000 plus employees, making his handling of workplace violence relevant to the current post he is seeking.

  58. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:20 pm:

pay no attention to the reality of the man running for Governor. Bruce Rauner’s character does not count, just his ability to make money despite literally hurting living people. if you vote for him, that is what you get. shameful.

  59. - James formerly from Wrigley - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:23 pm:

Juice - Thanks for the informative response.

Again, I do not dispute that there is some relevance to an issue that effects 50k. But 50k is less than 1% of Illinois 13,000,000 residents.

  60. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:24 pm:

    - PublicServant -,

I understand your take, it’s as though I find myself now having to answer for My Party with Rauner, and I’m not with Rauner, but I know My Party has good people, and Republicans need some cover sometimes too, like not all Dems were with Rod.

Consistent. All I’m trying to be.

I know you and - YDD - meant no harm.

If the Quinnies don’t run an Ad, it’s malpractice.

  62. - James formerly from Wrigley - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:42 pm:

    Amalia -

character counts, but it is not all that counts. That’s all I’m saying. Incompetence kills.

The funny thing is most politicians are only pretending to be good guys and so many fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

  63. - 618662dem - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:47 pm:

You have to know that as Quinn was starring down the barrel of a battleships fun this spring he knew the only chance was to make rauner toxic. Come to find out rauner is a terrible candidate who took for granted that he could lose. I have to believe the worst stuff is still in waiting leading up to the election in 13 days. Should be a hell of an ugly ride for rauner.

  64. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 7:51 pm:

    ===If the Quinnies don’t run an Ad, it’s malpractice.===

    It just…is.

    It’s toxic.

  65. - Wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 8:04 pm:

James, how will the bad person (your words) that you’re willing to tolerate “fix the state’s economy?”

Goveernors have constitutional and statutory powers that over the long term can provide a foundation for opportunity.

But all the stuff about “fix the state economy” is juvenile. There is no state economy. There are many facets of the global economy within the state.

  66. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 8:07 pm:

@ James, right incompetence kills….the incompetence of Rauner businesses running nursing homes. next.

  67. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 8:13 pm:

    - James -,

Honesty, integrity, ethics, and morals make up character.

Character isn’t just a word, it means something.

You lead a state, you need character. Otherwise, you get decisions in government that are callous.

We are people, citizens…not assets…and liabilities.

  76. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 10:26 pm:

oh great Ben Bradlee now with the spirits, look down upon the journalists of Illinois and imbue them with the spine they will need for the rest of this campaign to stand up and tell the story of Bruce Rauner.

  77. - JD - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 10:44 pm:

Am I the only one to think this is some of the best oppo yet on Rauner? Shouldn’t it have been out a week or two ago?

  78. - Chilaborguy - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 10:48 pm:

I am heartened that many commenters feel that Freedom PAC and it’s labor allies have done such extensive and relevant Oppo research. It should be noted that a great deal of this research was completed by and paid for by SEIU prior to the Freedom PAC’s Formation. In actuality the individual that did the vast majority of the work is Dr. Don Weiner, a longtime union political operative. I believe a lot of people have had a hand in furthering the in depth work of Mr. Weiner but he certainly creating the roadmap for all of us to follow. I say all this because Mr. Weiner has done this kind of high quality work for nearly 40 years now and has received very little fanfare. I want to make sure that operatives out there understand the unprecedented scope of this research project and the tremendous contribution staffers like Don Weiner make to these campaigns all the time. Hats off to you Brother.

  79. - Jorge - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 10:50 pm:

Jordan Belfort would love some Rauner.

  80. - RNUG - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:23 pm:

Rauner is a walking billboard for where the line is between legal and ethical.

  81. - RNUG - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:54 pm:

I can see the anti-Rauner ad running in my head:

    Rauner did xyz

    Legal - maybe

    Ethical - no way

  82. - Been There - Tuesday, Oct 21, 14 @ 11:57 pm:

Chilaborguy, post your shout out to Weiner again tomorrow or another day during the day time hours. This blog is not like Facebook. Posting this late is like getting a scoop in yesterday’s newspaper. It won’t be read by many.

  83. - Adlai - Wednesday, Oct 22, 14 @ 7:14 am:

“Charles Barkley, Ty Cobb, terrible people great ballplayers.”

There’s no moral dimension to playing ball. Being governor is ALL moral dimensions.

But hey, by all means, continue with the “Bruce Rauner is a horrible person, but I’m voting for him anyway” schtick.

  84. - Adlai - Wednesday, Oct 22, 14 @ 7:22 am:

“how many bills has your rep introduced to combat workplace violence? More than the broader economy or less? I watched all the debates, the topic did not come up, the economy did. After that debate did you even think, why didn’t they ask about workplace violence?”

The issue with Rauner isn’t just “workplace violence”- heck, the bigger story here doesn’t really touch on that at all, nor does the nursing home story, the Leapsource story, the Target gift card story, the Dave McKinney story, the story about the 12 bankruptcies, or the Peyton Prep story. Reducing it to “workplace violence” is a dodge. The real problem is that it looks like Rauner is willing to do just about anything for personal enrichment. And that goes straight to every other policy decision in the race, including “fixing” the economy.

In other words, I think it’s more than fair for people to look at this stuff and conclude that Rauner *won’t* fix the economy, he’ll just turn Illinois into another bust-out scheme.

Confused, I hope your comments are snark!

“Am I the only one to think this is some of the best oppo yet on Rauner? Shouldn’t it have been out a week or two ago?”

Depends on how fast Quinn’s media turn-around is. If they can get an ad up this weekend, set to run through the final week, it could be pretty devastating. Rauner has no more free media opportunities to respond.

There is no safe way to use a pesticide shampoo for lice. Even the supposedly safe and organic lice shampoo can cause reaction if used on children with allergies. All the shampoos sell themselves as safe, and then have inserts listing long warnings.

Lindane has been used safely for years. It is a serious option for doctors dealing with patients who are allergic to the chemicals used in OTC lice shampoos. It is administered cautiously. Lindane used to be a common pesticide in OTC for generations. Kids growing up in the first half of the 20th century who contracted lice were treated with Lindane. It is still used in other parts of the world.

A lot of you guys have no clue what you are talking about because you probably had no experience with lice infestations. It is the second most common reason kids miss school today. Claims that Rauner is deliberately poisoning kids with Lindane exposes your gullibility and ignorance.

Learn about lice and lice treatments before accusing someone of poisoning children for a profit. You would then recognize the difference between facts and a hit piece.

    Hmm.

===More than 50 countries have banned use of the chemical; In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency prohibits all agricultural uses of lindane. Oddly, it’s still OK to rub it into children’s hair.===

    Hmm.

Seems pretty factual there, - VanillaMan -
