There’s a difference in how young people view things than grizzly veterans, that’s for sure. Millions of her contemporaries possess the precious right to vote. If they saw it as more of an obligation, you could see 177 posts like this every day. lol
Should we envision them as armed camps? Will they be throwing typewriters at each other … or just pencils? Folding up paper press releases as paper airplanes and launching them? Or just sending up hot air trial balloons?
My name is Willy, I live in Oswego and I enjoy your work.
It appears some of your suggested sitcom ideas border on the highly regarded, yet to be nominated semi-mocumentary sitcom “Dad’s Home State”, found on the Faux HBO, see local dates and times.

So, she is not exactly sitting around in an office drinking scotch and smoking cigars. It’s not the deepest political thought, but I’ve noticed that criticism of Avery Bourne has an undertone that feels more personal and petty than the criticisms launched at others. If we are going to call pols out on their Facebook posts, I’ve got a long list of ones from the “cigar and scotch” crew, like endless selfies and stirring quotations from Robert Frost. The road less traveled? Oh wow, so deep. Let’s judge Avery Bourne from the totality of her Facebook posts, which on the whole appear to be what they should be.
- Homer J. Quinn - Wednesday, Sep 30, 15 @ 10:16 am:
Now, state Rep. Bourne, “Ever wonder why a district is a certain color on a map? Why blue? Why not green? Yellow? Maybe the district takes on the personality of the color they are on the map? Like, green, is your district ‘chill’, or red is like ‘hot’ about things and stuff… I look at the colors in wonderment.”
What is the point of this post, exactly? Not Rep. Bourne’s FB post, but this particular Capitol Fax post? Nothing will come of this, but antagonizing Rep. Bourne for being lighthearted. GA members are people too…

@FakeAveryBourne - Voting gets confusing, so on the Pretty Green button I put a smiley face sticker, on the Mean Red button I put a Frowny Face sticker, & the Yellow Button I put a Unicorn sticker to make me smile #FreshmanProblems
I like her comment, and I am surprised by some of the negative comments and glad to see some of the light-hearted ones, especially after the past year. Her perspective seems to be better than that of a young smug newbie that acts like they know everything about everything. And I’d prefer it to the cantankerous attitude as well.
BTW: I’d watch out for Rand’s camp, some of his dad’s Paulestinians can’t make up their minds between Rand and Bernie, which to me is scary on multiple levels.
I’ve known Avery for years. She’s got a good sense of humor about her.
Willy - come on, dude. Are you really going to give her the Jason Plummer treatment? She’s a lot more “with it” than young Mr. Plummer - who’s not really “young” anymore.
@FakeAveryBourne - Someone help. I just found out my voting key isn’t my meal plan pass. I’m pretty sure I’m on the meal plan, where’s Legislators Services located #CampusLife

@FakeAveryBourne - What’s confusing in the House is the Dems-GOP and that’s that. I find myself wondering “Where’s Hufflepuff? Where’s Ravenclaw?” “Where’s Dumbledore?” #SortingHat
Avery, the term “camps” when applied to politics - is literal. Camps are temporary gatherings of like minded people. Gold camps are filled with young men digging for wealth. Nudist camps are filled with people who want to enjoy life sans clothing. Scout camps are filled with young people discovering outdoor skills. RV camps are filled with seniors filling their bucket list before ascending to their final camp in the sky.
Political camps are filled with young people digging for wealth, fame and fortune. They are willing to get naked and sell their souls to the highest bidders. Their learn about how to dig for oppositional dirt on opponents. They fill their bucket list when they convince the AARP crowd to support their candidates.
When the gold is panned out, when buttocks are sunburned, when little Jimmy’s parents return to pick him up Sunday night, when the RV couldn’t clear the drive through window at Cracker Barrel, and when repeated electoral losses visit the Happy Political Campers - camps breaks up.

==What is the point of this post, exactly?==
This is a good question.
Rich is doing her a favor. He basically gave her the lesson (on a pretty bland FB post) that you are now part of a blood sport. Just like in the Miranda warning anything you say (post) can and will be used against you in the court of public opinion. It will be taken out of context and placed into 30 second radio and tv ads. So proceed with caution and be careful what you post and say because someone is always watching or listening.
Instead of posting silly stuff on twitter and facebook, text your best friend the silly comment and have a chuckle with her. Then if it winds up in a 30 second radio ad, you know you need to find a new best friend. Good luck and as Sean Connery would say “here endith the lesson”.
@sillywilly - Guacs extra =( . How do I afford that with my weekly allowance? Do I have to take Rich’s garbage out TWICE this week?! #unionize #righttoloaf
He comment, BTW, is not bipartisan. She uses it to mock, not to illuminate. If she really wanted to, she could have included both parties within her statement.
@FakeAveryBourne - When people think for you as a Representative, it gives you more time to wonder about frivolous things to post on Facebook #IdleMind
Rich Miller’s Sweaty Upper Lip- TV Guide captions …
She was wondering what these camps would look like. I responded in kind with the “Community” references. I guess that’s not light-hearted enough for you. Have you seen those episodes? The Repubs competing for the nominations could easily fit into some of those scripts.
So who does Hillary’s hair at the campsite? Who remembered to bring the can opener? What kind of beer did each camp bring? Did they make a camp fire using flints, matches or a lighter? Marshmellows? Are they all on their cellphones?
@FakeAveryBourne - When I get bored hearing speech after speech on the House Floor, I watch the Gilmore Girls on my iPhone till I hear the voting bell. #FreshmanConfessions
“If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you’ll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.”
@FakeAveryBourne - like Jason Bourne, I sometimes forget what’s going on and I ask seat mates “Who runs Treadstone?!”. They think I’m kidding but I’m not. #FreshmanConfessions
@FakeAveryBourne - I sometimes lower the seats of my seat mates and then blame Rep. Lang. Then I lower Rep. Lang’s seat and blame my seat mates. No one has caught on #FreshmanConfessions
@FakeAveryBourne - When things are slow in the Floor, I pretend a Lincoln County does exist, it’s in my district and I run the County. They passed the Turnaround Resolution #FreshmanConfessions
OW, I’m sorta envisioning your “camp” as a Naked and Afraid episode. The second (afraid) because of the first (naked). lol
Rep. Bourne is in the GA. She’s not immune from the normal satire here. The mean stuff is lousy no matter who’s in the barrel.
But, OW, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen you or not, but I’m willing to bet Ms. Bourne is easier to look at. Shallow, but true! Case closed.
(full of nothing but snark, this is)
@FakeAveryBourne - I started a Fantasy Legislator League; you draft legislators, they pass bills, resolutions, etc. Gov. Rauner took the idea and ran with it. #FreshmanConfessions
Wow, I’m noticing a strong odor of sexism and ageism. In sum, “There, there, pretty little girl, some day you can grow up to be a REAL legislator.” I’m pretty sure her facebook post is tongue in cheek, and while I don’t think she should be immune from criticism, I think her only error here is that she didn’t use her best judgment in whether to post at all (she should not have posted). As a public figure, she should know better than to post something tongue in cheek that can be interpreted in SO many other ways. I’m wondering if this was posted to facebook by any middle-aged white guy legislator, then would everyone would be congratulating him on his Seinfeldesque insightful humor? And FYI, I’m not a Bourne supporter, nor Republican, nor female, nor young. I just don’t like the tone of many of the posts here.
===I’m wondering if this was posted to facebook by any middle-aged white guy legislator, then would everyone would be congratulating him on his Seinfeldesque insightful humor?===
@FakeRutherfordDan - where were you about 2 years ago? #InstitutionalKnowledgeless
I can only imagine Paul has sun tea,Hillary has her own server,Bernie smells like leaves burning, trump owns the campground ,Carley works on her resume,Carson’s cooking ribs, huckabee in a revival tent,Cruz working the beer tent, walker can’t cut the cheese,Jeb! Is asleep, christy cooking Nathan’s,..
@FakeAveryBourne - if I get a fiscal note on a bill and the discussion drags on and on, I make all the zeroes smiley faces with silly hats & pretend they’re having a party #FreshmanConfessions
===Wow, I’m noticing a strong odor of sexism and ageism. In sum, “There, there, pretty little girl, some day you can grow up to be a REAL legislator.”===
What’s the old saying about the rank bigotry of low expectations?
He(r) comment, BTW, is not bipartisan. She uses it to mock, not to illuminate. If she really wanted to, she could have included both parties within her statement.
Yes, I did overlook Hillary Clinton in her examples. I didn’t mean to.
===So…. Rep. Bourne is off limits because she is young or a she or…?===
Rich, given the number of options you normally use to set up open threads, your “Deep Thoughts” headline just missed the mark…and seemed to invite internet troll humor more than good old fashioned criticism or wit
Woof, the Mayor Ardis contingent is out in force today.
Rep. Bourne is an obviously ambitious person who chose the rough-and-tumble world of Illinois politics.
Given that ambition and her choice of profession, I doubt that she’s a delicate, fragile little flower. I imagine she’s plenty tough enough to handle a little ribbing.
I’d suggest the “ageism” and “sexism”‘ comes from those who seem to think that she cannot because she is a young woman.
Anyone who’s ever gotten sideways with a teenage daughter will tell you, young women are pretty tough, indeed.
@FakeAveryBourne - Sometimes, if I’m spacing out and the chanting at the rail is loud & catchy enough, I find myself chanting along in my head. #FreshmanConfessions
“But like, what if two people call a color the same name, but really their eyes see different colors, man? I mean, what if your ‘Red’ is my ‘Blue’?”
“Look, the governor’s Red, so you’re Red. The governor’s against Blue, so you’re against Blue. Color coding these was supposed to make things easier, Avery, not harder…”
I am (sort of) young and female, and this feels neither sexist nor ageist to me. I think we’d definitely jump all over a young male legislator who wrote something like this, and I hope we’d show ever less mercy to an older man for having no business being on social media until he can use better judgment…
I think they should all try tent camping in the mud for a weekend. And instead of attending an awesome music festival as their reward- they attend the Alabama State Fair. /snark

Willy, can we have as much fun here as we have had with Jason? Maybe Slip and Sue will post online!!
That would open the flood gates. I could never compete, nor would I even try.
Snark, with an appropriate level of honesty and humor, is badly missing in our political discourse. Thank you for keeping us on track!
Still miss Jason though!

Today’s snark was really an outpouring of what escalates when those defenders aren’t in tune with the snarkiness and they feel the need to intervene.
Jason himself was way too serious sbkut who he thought he is and the persona he have to all of us for consumption.
“Sometimes being in on the joke leaves the humor where it belongs.” Jason let his own caricature become the running joke.
You’re a good sport, Rep. Bourne. Much respect, keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll be fine for a long time.
