* Gov. Bruce Rauner responded today about the lack of support for his ideas in the House and Senate…
“The legislators in both political parties, and especially the Democrats have gotta wake up.
“We have been subsidizin’ the patronage and abuse in CPS for years. Their suburban taxpayers, their Downstate taxpayers are sendin’ extra cash to CPS. They better wake up and protect their taxpayers.
“One of the things that’s gonna happen this year is that our legislators are gonna get called out. They talk against the Chicago political machine. They talk against the Speaker. They say ‘I stand up, I work for my district.’ They’re not workin’ for their district. They take money from the Chicago political machine. They vote for the Speaker to stay in power and it’s breakin’ our state. And the legislators around, around the suburbs of Chicago and Downstate had better wake up and start smellin’ the coffee and deal with the votes for the right thing.”
* He was then asked, “How are they going to get called out?”…
“You watch.”

Does Rauner think that downstate and suburban Dems really believe that if they capitulate on his “gut the unions” plans that he won’t spend against them in November? Hell, he’d probably spend against Dunkin if Dunkin were in a leaner district. No matter what happens, Rauner is going to spend in any district where he thinks he has a chance to flip it.

Rauner doesnt seem to understand those downstate legislators were elected with a higher margin than his. There is a greater liklihood that the average downstate dem voter has actually met their rep/senator and share more in the way of community values with them than they do with Rauner. The problem with complaining about the legislature (or congress) is that its always “your” rep thats the problem, mine is just fine.

“We have been subsidizin’ the patronage and abuse in CPS for years.” I can only imagine his talking about himself and Diana, what with the couple of hundred grand he dropped he dropped on Payton to grease the skids for his daughter, to all the money he has personally given that he bragged about in Bloomington-Normal or that principal training program at CPS that he helped get started that he was so proud of in that same town hall.
- Buzzie - Thursday, Jan 21, 16 @ 5:05 pm:
Rauner should not be underestimated. He has the money and ego to fight an enlongated war for what he wants. So which is it? Chicago carries the state financially, or downstate sends all their money upstate? I got an idea that isn’t much more stupid than what is happening these days. - let’s all the legislators vote that Chicago as a separate state, and that the current Governor goes to Chicago. Of course, that has nothing to do with CPS - with is a school system and not a local or state government.
He just loves to spout populist sayings without backing any of it up. Never once have I heard any downstaters say they want their kids to go to CPS, or that they think CPS gets all the money . Suburbs, yes, with their fancy swimming pools and so forth.

To the ILGA:
For those of you on the fence or looking over it into the Rauner pasture, do you still really think the grass is greener there, or just where the graves are? Being “yellow” will eventually not be an option when the coming votes are taken- in the legislature and at the ballot box.
- walker - Thursday, Jan 21, 16 @ 6:40 pm:
All votes count, but the suburbs swing elections. A lot of self-described independents are available for either side, and the previous Republican stranglehold on many suburbs has been somewhat relieved by year’s of hard work, and shifting demos and attitudes. We are not like the Chicago GOP, even though some of the public just assumes the Suburban Dems are a rare breed, in that we are growing, we fight for position and win.
If Rauner wants a battle on our turf, suburban Cook, and the collar counties, we welcome it.
As some of you might know, I am attempting to organize and build a new Suburban Democrats of Illinois into a force to be reckoned with. Just too frustrated with today’s status quo, and Rauner’s failed tactics, to stay on the sidelines. That’s why I wIll be too busy, and perhaps too partisan, to be of much value as a regular commenter. Wouldn’t be a sock puppet, or hide any agenda behind an alias anyway.
Best wishes to all.

===Is “Dad’s Home State” going to shift from a comedy to a Shakespearean tragedy like “American Chopper”?===
That’s a good question, thanks for asking.
(Sips water that was sitting next to the chair. Clears throat, speaks into the microphone)
No. As those who have followed the show from Season 1, we lost a main character in Diana’s state employee, and that was a huge lost for the cast. The dynamic of the whole show has had to move forward, but I think the core principles of the show; farce, comedy, Easter eggs, and pure fun are what drives this ensemble.
Making it have greater context besides what the slow was would really take away production value and the show could lose its audience.
I’m not saying a spin-off might be in the works, or even adding a couple really great new character to “DHS”, but moving away from what HBO has asked, and really wants, which is exactly what this show wants to produce, it’s safe to say “DHS” isn’t going anywhere abd will be true to its beginnings.
(Grabs glass of water again, puts microphone down, then sits more easily in the chair)
- How Ironic - Thursday, Jan 21, 16 @ 6:49 pm:
