Let the Good Times Roll ! (Springfield style) Summer session always more fun when Lincolnfest was around. Music and Beer tents all withing walking distance of the Cap. What’s there to do now in the patch in July?
I think the Speaker has been pretty consistent, and the Governor has been pretty squishy, but defiant on his TA…looks like we’re heading for the octagon - but hoping both can emerge.
So, what would happen if neither side blinks? Would a state, or even a federal judge step in? Or does “nobody know”?

Mr. Madigan says he isn’t taking hostages. Really? What about sad-faced House members imprisoned in ‘continuous session.’ Candy Crush tournaments, check. Cullerton’s Senate members ordering mushroom pizza for delivery to the House floor?
And why is the old ‘hostage’ meme trying to stage a comeback? Old, overused, obsolete. Polling must show he wore out ‘extreme’ months ago, and conflating ‘middle class’ with ’state employee’ just isn’t working. But ‘hostage’?

Good thing they took the full month of March off.
Not that the extra time could have been used for anything productive after primary day.

Madigan doesn’t want war.
He just isn’t prepared to surrender Poland, or whatever comparable analogy you prefer.
Realism requires recognizing your cohabitants’ vital interests.
Rauner’s turnaround agenda is similar to the USSR’s attempt to install missiles in Cuba.
Either they were trying to provoke a reaction or they failed to understand how we were perceive the threat to our vital interests.
Rauner wants to erode middle class protections that Democrats have fought to establish over 80 years. We believe that once the erosion of the topsoil begins, it will not end until everything established since the New Deal is washed out to sea.
For union members, many of whom are third and even fourth generation, and who grew up listening to stories of how their grandfathers and great uncles shed blood and even life for basic union protections - it is an assault on the fabric of their life.
