  1. - Norseman - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 3:10 pm:

And Chris Kaergard hopes for a cool summer as his budget beard grows into its 2nd year.

  2. - NorthsideNoMore - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 3:17 pm:

Let the Good Times Roll ! (Springfield style) Summer session always more fun when Lincolnfest was around. Music and Beer tents all withing walking distance of the Cap. What’s there to do now in the patch in July?

  3. - Captain Illini - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 3:33 pm:

I think the Speaker has been pretty consistent, and the Governor has been pretty squishy, but defiant on his TA…looks like we’re heading for the octagon - but hoping both can emerge.

  4. - Anonymous - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 3:40 pm:

Madigan and Rauner both want war. Why can’t they understand that their constituents want peace?

  5. - SAP - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 3:41 pm:

    Sorry, 3:40 post was me.

  6. - Tom K. - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 3:46 pm:

So, what would happen if neither side blinks? Would a state, or even a federal judge step in? Or does “nobody know”?

  7. - #ThisIsn'tWorkingFolks - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 4:55 pm:

Mr. Madigan says he isn’t taking hostages. Really? What about sad-faced House members imprisoned in ‘continuous session.’ Candy Crush tournaments, check. Cullerton’s Senate members ordering mushroom pizza for delivery to the House floor?
And why is the old ‘hostage’ meme trying to stage a comeback? Old, overused, obsolete. Polling must show he wore out ‘extreme’ months ago, and conflating ‘middle class’ with ’state employee’ just isn’t working. But ‘hostage’?

  8. - Formerly Known As... - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 5:15 pm:

Good thing they took the full month of March off.

Not that the extra time could have been used for anything productive after primary day.

  9. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 5:46 pm:

    Madigan doesn’t want war.

He just isn’t prepared to surrender Poland, or whatever comparable analogy you prefer.

Realism requires recognizing your cohabitants’ vital interests.

Rauner’s turnaround agenda is similar to the USSR’s attempt to install missiles in Cuba.

Either they were trying to provoke a reaction or they failed to understand how we were perceive the threat to our vital interests.

Rauner wants to erode middle class protections that Democrats have fought to establish over 80 years. We believe that once the erosion of the topsoil begins, it will not end until everything established since the New Deal is washed out to sea.

For union members, many of whom are third and even fourth generation, and who grew up listening to stories of how their grandfathers and great uncles shed blood and even life for basic union protections - it is an assault on the fabric of their life.

    So, yeah. Here we are.

  10. - Anonymous - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 9:09 pm:

With legislators taking vacations, there certainly won’t be any vetoes overridden.

  11. - Anonymous - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 9:11 pm:

Watch those with a coal miner in the family vote for Trump…and maybe Republican legislative candidates.

  12. - Liberty - Sunday, May 29, 16 @ 10:32 pm:

Madigan, Cullerton and Dems want status quo
    Ruaner and leadership want war

  13. - Rich Miller - Monday, May 30, 16 @ 7:22 am:

===And why is the old ‘hostage’ meme trying to stage a comeback?===

Ask the governor. He used the word several times yesterday.

  14. - Rabid - Monday, May 30, 16 @ 7:38 am:

Tax hike mike hijacked the hostages from my govenor now he’s a hostage negotiator

  15. - Huh? - Monday, May 30, 16 @ 7:39 am:

“Madigan says his members prepared to be in continuous session all summer.”

Nuts. No per diems for the House.
