* Greg Hinz…
“If I can get a part of what I want here, I’ll hit the road” and promote Illinois’ benefits around the world, [Gov. Bruce Rauner] said.
He also said…
“I will travel much more… If we can get part of what we’re advocating done, I will live on the road a lot… I’m not going to charge taxpayers, but I’m going to travel around the country, I’m going to travel around the world - China, Germany, UK, Japan, Korea.”
Paging Speaker Madigan!

Too bad he grounded the state planes, he could leave this afternoon.
- Dave Katy - Friday, Jun 24, 16 @ 11:32 am:
We should give him a chance and see if his plan works. It’s not like the plans of the last 50 years has been working in this state. Just saying….

He should go to Fantasy Island as well.

Redistricting looks like it could happen if it makes it on the ballot. Will that be enough for Rauner to declare victory and hit the road? Probably not.
If he needs more, for local government collective bargaining, let him take away the ability of local public employees to negotiate the color of their break rooms, declare victory, and hit the road. Worth a try!

He needs something more to sell than =status quo=, and he will sell those changes globally as part of Illinois =new= image and appeal if he gets those changes.
The Dems might agree just to send him =anywhere but here= for a while. /s

Former DCEO director, now head of ILBEDC, Jim Schultz has supposedly been doing that. Although it has been kept quiet. Not sure how it was paid for.

Actually a very good idea. Just keep travelling.

Rauner thinks being governor is a joke.
Rauner has no idea what the job entails.
How pathetic.

This dude has a scary message that we just see a glimpse of when he is having an episode.

Apparently, Bruce missed staff training. Maybe he might want to reschedule with HR?
If he does, maybe someone in HR can explain that, yeah, Bruce, your job description already says you’re required to “promote Illinois’ benefits”. That’s a bullet point. That’s already there.
That same HR rep might also remind Bruce that the bullet point about promoting the state doesn’t include any preconditions. There no “if/then” clause in the promotion requirement.
Maybe HR can show Bruce his job description again?

- Dale Cooper - Friday, Jun 24, 16 @ 11:44 am:
That’s exactly what we need. A governor that is going to go on an extended vacation over seas. It’s not like there is work to do here.

One thing, for sure, Bruce - your absence in Illinois won’t make a noticeable difference.

== “If I can get a part of what I want here, I’ll hit the road” ==
If only what he wants didn’t include the death of state workers, social services, higher ed. and state vendors, etc. we would be more than happy to let the gov ‘hit the road’.
- Jimmy H - Friday, Jun 24, 16 @ 12:09 pm:
Rauner is even holding the promotion of Illinois hostage.
- Anon221 - Friday, Jun 24, 16 @ 12:10 pm:
Is he going all by himself???? Doing all the travel planning himself??? No trooper escorts??? No use of state vehicles??? If no to any one of these, he is NOT paying for travel himself. We are!!!
Walk away now, Rauner, and take up a new hobby. We cannot afford to subsidize your retirement.
- Mama - Friday, Jun 24, 16 @ 12:10 pm:
“Rauner visited Pontiac this morning as they recover and begin to rebuild after the tornadoes that hit earlier this week.”
I hope he told them he will find some state or federal money to help them recover.

This seems like another “give” that’s not really a “give”, a la tax increases. Like the tax increase, this isn’t a need or a goal specific to one side of the aisle, it’s a need for Illinois as a whole.
It should be a gift to the Dem press shop, though, hammering the angle that he should be doing this as a job duty, irrespective of budget battles.

“We cannot afford to subsidize your retirement.”
Unfortunately, we will be subsidizing his retirement with a State of Illinois pension. In his case, it will be enough to reduce the wine of the month tab.

As he continues to pile on to the unpaid debts this State owes, he touts the money he saves the State by accepting a $1 salary, declining a pension, and declining future reimbursement for his walkabout.
Truly a hero in his own eyes.

And before he gets to these tasks, let’s not forget his “To Do” item from yesterday about retaining more U of I grads in IL:
“… There’s a pipeline, there’s a pipeline from Silicon Valley and from Seattle to Champaign-Urbana … it’s there. Their recruiters are there. I wanna break that pipeline. … As governor I can help drive that.”
Maybe he plans to do enough damage to the University that the west coast recruiters lose interest. Yeah, that could break the pipeline.
