ILGOP: “Madigan is as corrupt as they come”
Monday, Sep 19, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller
* From an ILGOP fundraising e-mail entitled “Corrupt money”…
Friend,
Speaker Mike Madigan just gave $500,000 directly to the Democratic Party of Illinois. We have to respond now before it’s too late.
Madigan is as corrupt as they come.
He’ll spend that money to help elect Hillary Clinton, who hid classified emails on her private server.
He’ll spend that money to help elect Tammy Duckworth, who fired whistleblowers for exposing abuse of veterans.
He’ll spend that money to help elect Susana Mendoza so her office can hire more of his patronage goons.
And he’ll spend that money to push back on Governor Rauner and raise your taxes.
Please help before its too late.
Tim
The money came from Madigan’s personal campaign committee.

Fact check - checks out as true.

So $500K is more corrupting than $20M ?
- Clark - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 3:53 pm:
“So $500K is more corrupting than $20M ?”
No.
But now take the lifetime amount into account.

So, it equal then????

Uh, you know $20 million every five minutes really adds up quick, right?
- Politics in Action - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:01 pm:
“So $500K is more corrupting than $20M ?”
No. But we don’t know how much Rauner has given over the same amount of time that Madigan has been in office, to pay his cronies to help his 1% friends get even richer.
- illini - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:02 pm:
Such hypocrisy - $500,000 VS $20 Million.
Give me a break !!!!!!!!!!
- Rhino Slider - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:02 pm:
No one questions how a successful partner at a VC firm made money. One can question how a simple state rep made and makes so much money.
How is he still part of Madigan & Getzendanner?
Personally, I would like to see a law that forbids external money coming in from outside the district. Let the people decide their own leadership, not the big guns… boohoo to both the Dems and Repubs; centralized power always creates problems
- Cheryl44 - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:10 pm:
Hey, they called it the Democratic Party, not the Democrat Party.
Baby steps
- The Captain - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:12 pm:
In these competing narratives these villains sure are clearly defined for each base. It’s almost presidential-level boogeyman.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:14 pm:
“No one questions how a successful partner at a Venture Capaitalist firm made money. One can question how a simple investor that bankrupted countless companies… made and makes so much money.
How is Rauner still making $50+ million a year?
Personally, I would like to see a law that forbids external money coming in from outside the district, but that’s so silly, I’ll just pretend I think that. Let the people decide their own leadership, not the big guns like Diana Rauner, or Griffin or Uihline… boohoo to both the Dems and Repubs; centralized power always creates problems”
Better
- AC - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:16 pm:
All that Rauner does is right and just, and all that Madigan does is corrupt, even when they’re doing the same thing. Got it.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:16 pm:
To the Post,
“Tim,
If you say a lie enough, even you will believe it. Trust me.
Fake Bruce Rauner”

In the future read and comprehend before commenting.
The money came from one of Madigan’s political funds, not his personal money!!!!
- steward - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:20 pm:
Remember, that 4 dollars and 20 cents a check that a state worker voluntarily pays into PEOPLE is corrupt too.
If it’s Rauner’s money, it’s as pure as new fallen snow.
If it’s his opponents’ money, it’s corrupt.

$20million personal purchase of influence
$8billion in vouchered payables with no plan.
Ignored contracts
“like your local prison” threats
Any-Means-for-Any Ends
Who is corrupt? Who is morally bankrupt?
- Levois - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:29 pm:
All hyperbole aside and I know this may be slightly off topic…how much change will happen to this state whenever Speaker Madigan decides to step aside?
- Last Bull Moose - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:33 pm:
Rostenkowski,Ryan, Blago, JJJ; we have jailed so many who wanted power and used power to obtain wealth. Madigan seems to want power for its own sake. He makes his money on the side, like part-time legislators are supposed to do.
If Madigan were as corrupt as they come, the Feds would have had him by now.
- My New Handle - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:35 pm:
I made a comment on an earlier thread about Winters leaving DCEO for a private group doing business with DCEO looks like violation of state employees ethics act. No corruption there.
- Big Muddy - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:38 pm:
Over decades Madigan has put into place the most convoluted property tax system in the nation, with his people at all the key spots and has made boatloads of cash as a tax lawyer. Some can say with a straight face he is not corrupt? The man has, with no doubt, made millions off of legislatively controlling the Chicago tax system. The entire SYSTEM.

== how much change will happen to this state whenever Speaker Madigan decides to step aside? ==
Probably not as much as a lot of people think it will be. While Madigan does play his own game a good part of the time, he usually isn’t that far from what his party espouses. I expect it will be the same tune, different player, and maybe not as strong or loud.
- Anonymous - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:41 pm:
BIG
The tax system has been in place far before Madigan was in office.
- Clark - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:45 pm:
@BumblesBounce
Not even close.
Anyway, while the phrasing of this fundraising email is silly, I see nothing wrong with the ILGOP trying to even the playing field with all the Rauner $$$. I believe every candidate deserves a chance with a funded field operation to at least give the voters a choice (for either party).

RNUG you make an excellent point.
- Mama Retired - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 4:56 pm:
You could easily change that title to “Rauner is as corrupt as they come.”
- Anon221 - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 5:11 pm:
Tim,
Please be more specific on who “they” are? All politicians???
Does that include Rauner???
Thanks

Noticed that the required tax increase is only going to happen if MJM overpowers the Guv’s resistance.
So when we finally get a real budget that includes the necessary tax increase, what will that say about the Guv?
- Fr. Murphy - Monday, Sep 19, 16 @ 7:45 pm:
I recommend an election eve torchlight parade for the Democratic ticket from top to bottom and MJM is the Parade Chairman - right down Michigan Avenue. That would be something.

Rauner won’t be happy until Madigan is as poor a speaker as Rauner is as poor a governor.
