Sente, Fine and Mussman added to GOP enemies list

Three Added to BossMadigan.com
Time for Sente, Fine and Mussman to Stop Empowering Madigan at Our Expense

The Illinois Republican Party today added three more legislators – Reps. Carol Sente, Laura Fine and Michelle Mussman – to BossMadigan.com.

“Mike Madigan has run Illinois as a political boss for over three decades. Madigan’s only motivation is to increase his own political power at our expense. The middle class, the voters, and honest, transparent government fall by the wayside in Madigan’s Illinois,” said Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Steven Yaffe.

“By repeatedly voting for Madigan for Speaker, empowering Madigan instead of standing up to him, Reps. Carol Sente, Laura Fine and Michelle Mussman bear responsibility for how far Illinois has fallen.

It’s not too late for them to do the right thing and pledge to oppose Madigan for Speaker this time.”

Carol Sente is a consistent vote for political boss Mike Madigan’s disastrous tax-and-spend agenda. Mike Madigan has channeled $1.5 million to Carol Sente over the years, and in exchange Sente has supported Madigan three times for Speaker. She backed Madigan’s plan to nearly double the income tax on many Illinois families. Worst of all, Sente voted to make sure she gets paid if the government shuts down, ahead of social service organizations and higher education. It’s time for Sente to finally break from Madigan and oppose his bid for Speaker.

Laura Fine has been a staunch Madigan ally in the House, supporting Madigan for Speaker at every opportunity. This should not come as a surprise, since Madigan has directed hundreds of thousands in special interest cash to Fine’s campaigns. Instead of standing up for fiscal sanity in Springfield, Fine helped Madigan ram through a budget that was $8 billion out of balance. She even voted to ensure that she is paid ahead of critical social services and schools. Fine has backed Madigan’s agenda for too long, but she can demonstrate her independence by refusing to support Madigan for Speaker again.

Michelle Mussman is one of Madigan’s most loyal legislators, having supported him for Speaker three times. Madigan called on Mussman to vote for the most unbalanced budget in Illinois history, and Mussman obliged, supporting a budget that would have required a $1,000 tax on Illinois families to balance. Mussman even voted to make sure she gets paid before schools and social services. It’s no wonder Michelle Mussman has backed Mike Madigan’s agenda, since he has funneled close to a million dollars into her accounts. Mussman now has a chance to break away from her support of Madigan by refusing to vote for him for Speaker for a fourth time.

To borrow a concept from Wordslinger, if Madigan’s “only motivation is to increase his own political power at our expense,” then why is the governor currently demanding that he present a budget plan? After all, if that stuff is true, then shouldn’t the governor completely mistrust anything Madigan proposes?

The “list” as a concept was already flawed. But how many miles long does it need to be before it is nothing more than a joke?

  2. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 11:26 am:

    No chance at compromise.

This keeps the idea Rauner wants people hurt front and center.

Governors who want budgets don’t do these things right after an election, and before the next GA is seated.

    Dems…

Rauner is coming after you anyway…

    Remember that.

An enemies list…yeah, that’ll work. Look what it did for Richard Nixon when…oh, wait.

  4. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 11:32 am:

Rauner keeps talking about the HDems who secretly support the TA. Which HDems aren’t on the enemies list yet?

Madigan = punching bag. It’s really just that simple

No sexism here. Nothing to see.

  7. - ILGOV2018 - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 11:35 am:

Ok, GOP and Rauner, just put every GD Democrat on your enemies list already!

  8. - Norseman - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 11:35 am:

They’re going to put everyone on the list, they’re just doing it drip by drip so they could put out press releases. That’s just what they do.

In addition to the issue of distrust on an MJM-proposed budget, wouldn’t it also be an instance of the Guv ceding more of tasty, tasty “political power” he’s certain sustains the Speaker’s ebbing lifeforce? After all, it’s his Constitutionally granted power to set the starting terms for the budget…

Rhetorical, of course. Politics being what they are now, first one to float an idea will be excoriated for either the cuts or the new taxes. Actually, why choose, they’ll be whacked for both.

How many more until every elected Dem in Illinois is on the list?

You hunt deer with a rifle and geese with birdshot.

ILGOP, at this point, is simply spraying birdshot into the woods.

Speaker Madigan, as leader of the Illinois Democrat’s, start fighting back with your own list and send mailers to the GOP districts, stating how they are just voting the way they are told to by Rauner.

What is so sad, is there are some very thoughtful and intelligent men/women on the GOP side who know they are not doing what is best for the citizens of Illinois.

  13. - EVanstonian - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 11:38 am:

At some point, the plan here is to include the entire Democratic Party? What are they thinking? That’ll end up diluting the message around specific candidates they want to target, no?

Also, as has been noted here and elsewhere, a Republican executive with an “enemies list” seems a little, well, dated.

  14. - Big Joe - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 11:41 am:

I live in Michelle Mussman’s district and have always found her to be willing to listen to my views on the state of politics in IL. She holds many open town hall meetings for input and keeps us informed on the issues that are present in the House. I find her to be someone that listens and really cares about the needs of the people that she serves. And she has voted with the best interests of us in mind. The GOP can write all the negative stuff that they want, I want a rep that works for me, and that has been Michelle Mussman

    >But how many miles long does it need to be before it is nothing more than a joke?

25 miles past the point where the money behind the messaging runs out. I don’t think there are enough elected state offices for that to happen anytime soon.

  16. - illini97 - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 11:52 am:

I look forward to the point when they are tying the Assistant Township Road Commissioner of Madeupville, population 82, to Madigan.

I always found odd that a governor was willing to let a GA dictate the monetary measure of their agencies’ missions and programs?

    Makes no sense.

Could we just start a much smaller list with the names that aren’t included on the list?

  22. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 12:24 pm:

Republicans are dumping everything they have into this “Blame Madigan/Tie Dems to Madigan” plan. They have absolutely not incentive to actually bargain a budget in good faith.

If there is no more crisis, what will they blame Madigan (and everyone else) for?

  23. - Valley Lo - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 12:39 pm:

Laura Fine is an outstanding legislator. She is dedicated to helping her constituents and all of IL. This is more rhetoric by the other side which is just silly. We need more Laura Fines in the GA

These daily additions to the Enemies List and attacks on potential gubernatorial candidates all beg the question: who took the strawberries?

I guess the plan is to just roll the ball bearings around.

  29. - Skeptic - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 2:31 pm:

“I look forward to the point when they are tying the Assistant Township Road Commissioner of Madeupville, population 82, to Madigan.” After all, Madeupville, population 82 signed the Proclamation, right?

  30. - Skeptic - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 2:32 pm:

“But how many miles long does it need to be before it is nothing more than a joke?” I point to my previous post for my take on that question.

    - illini97 -, - Skeptic -…

Madeupville is waiting for the Rauner Word Jumble to get the appropriate reply. They, Madeupville, hope “ck” can get that Word Jumble up and running real soon.

They do acknowledge they signed on the Rauner Resolution, so there’s that.

  32. - walker - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 2:51 pm:

This has nothing to do with the individual reps, their votes, their willingness to compromise, their tenure, or their effectiveness or honesty.

The ILGOP just made a list of districts that were strong for Rauner, but nevertheless had Democratic Reps, and announced them as targets in geographical clusters.

  33. - Skeptic - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 3:19 pm:

“…we put the Assistant Township Road Commissioner of Madeupville, population 82 on BossMadigan.com for not supporting our call for talks with no preconditions for a budget that includes reforms…”

  34. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 3:27 pm:

    - Skeptic -

I heard, ‘tween us, Rauner has orchestrated that the ass’t highway commissioner now isn’t running for re-election in April.

    Just sayin’…

  35. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 3:29 pm:

… they appointed him/her to FULL elected commissioner and now… well…

    Trouble times in Madeupville Township.

Madeupville seems to be hummin’ along…

  36. - walker - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 3:33 pm:

Dem reps successful in competitive districts tend to be more moderate and less partisan on many issues. That’s how they get elected by their constituents.

Rauner’s ILGOP has now targeted for political attack, the same reps most likely to compromise with Gov Rauner on his Legislative priorities. The two realms might be separable for the Speaker, as Radigno seems to think, but they’re probably not for the reps.

    Feeney, get your book out.
Set down the name, the one Sean Thornton.

    - Feeney, have you written the name I gave you?
    - I have.
Well, strike a line through it.
    That´s for him. Sean Thornton…

  38. - Turnaround - Tuesday, Dec 13, 16 @ 4:46 pm:

If Rauner is interested in compromise, this is no good way to go about it. All these legislators are open to compromising on things like term limits and property tax freeze, by running ads and stuff like this, you do nothing to make them come to your side. Rauner knows the only way he wins in 18 is to just continue this “it’s madigan and the dem’s fault” card.
