“A corrupt political machine has taken over our home”

Tuesday, Jun 6, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* A new Bruce Rauner campaign video appears to try and make the point that the long impasse is not his fault…

* But a handful of protesters in Hegewisch today weren’t buying it…

I would certainly agree that a corrupt political machine has taken over the governor’s mansion.

  2. - Real - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:44 pm:

    @Aldyth

I agree. Lets give him a term limit in 2018.

  3. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:46 pm:

That’s not an entirely impressive number of supporters, but IWT wasn’t the only people with cameras who noticed them, so I guess they did their jobs.

  4. - Huh? - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:47 pm:

1.4%’s video is a disjointed mess. Oh wait, that is a commentary on this administration.

  5. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:48 pm:

    –…time to restore democracy.–

    The 2014 election wasn’t legit?

So he’s going to run on Trump rhetoric?

  6. - JS Mill - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:48 pm:

    Brave Sir Rauner!

The best way to show that you are all about the people is to wear a costume, drop your g’s, and sneak out the back door! /s

  7. - Ed Higher - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:53 pm:

    “Livin’” ? “Spendin’” ? I’m cringin’

  8. - Anon - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:55 pm:

That ad made me realize that Governor Rauner has flesh colored hair just like Carl Rove did. I never realized that!

  9. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:56 pm:

He comes across as incredibly weak and low energy. Ducking out the back door is a nice touch too. Sends a powerful “I’ll take the arrows” sort of message, don’t you think?

  10. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 3:57 pm:

    My deepest apologies…

“The political machine has taken over our home - it’s time to restore democracy”

This was the working theme for Season 4 of “Dad’s Home State”

“While Bruce continues to find just the ‘right’ costume for just the ‘right’ phoniness… While Diana wonders aloud why she calls herself a Democrat… but keeps giving so much money to people that aren’t Democrats… and while Diana’s State Employee tries to keep the eyes of the watchers on the Mansion renovation…

‘Dad’s Home State’ needs to keep the phony going… Be it… Lance tweeting where only Trolls lurk… “ck” jumbling the words that make Bruce’s thoughts dance… Goldberg writing the memos that need to be written… the political machine has taken over ‘our home’… and HBO needs its mockumentary…

‘Dad’s Home State’ - Season 4… The political machine has taken over our home - it’s time to restore democracy… as only a mockumentary can.”

  11. - WhoKnew - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:00 pm:

    For some strange reason!
“Exit stage left, running all the way…”

    Seems appropriate!/S

  12. - Carhartt Union Negotiating Team - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:13 pm:

Wow. He’s highlighting the “Democrats’ budget that spends $4 billion more than Illinois has,” but completely slithers out of his $4.6 out-of-balance joke of a budget?!

My god. He’s simply unfit to govern. It’s not a good job for him and it’s a terrible hobby for the rest of us.

Way to work toward a solution Governor.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:17 pm:

While Dems are arguing amongst themselves, Rauner keeps up his unanswered phoniness, peddled as the “unvarnished” truth… of Rauner’s incompetence “by excuses”…

    It’s an “B+”. An easy “B+”

No one seems to think running against Rauner’s failures needs to start now… or…

  14. - zatoichi - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:23 pm:

Kind of a busy video. If only the action in real life followed the verbal claims.

  15. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:28 pm:

If that’s his reality, there needs to be an intervention.

  16. - Just Me - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:40 pm:

If these guys really cared about their State they would work out their differences and create a solution. But they don’t care about our state, they care about power, so we’re in this mess.

  17. - JS Mill - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:41 pm:

I imagine the crew that put this together was laughing their tails off as they misused statements and picked quotes out of contact to present the most dishonest governor since Blago as a man of the people and for the people.

  18. - Derp - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 4:43 pm:

The best way for Democrats to counter this message is with a nominee tied to Madigan and Blagojevich. lol

  19. - RNUG - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 6:21 pm:

If they want to have a hope of winning, the Democrats need to figure out how to get free publicity / news stories in response to Rauner’s ads. At absolute minimum, there should be an internet response and press release every day correcting the record.

They have lost the PR war almost every day for the last 3l2 1/2 years.

  20. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 6:52 pm:

–They have lost the PR war almost every day for the last 3l2 1/2 years.–

They haven’t lost, they haven’t taken the field. It’s beyond reason.

Some 3D Chessmaster running that state party, huh?

  21. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 7:19 pm:

Come on Dems… If France can Trump Trump’s message with a little editing, surely your crew can do the same to each and every one of Team Rauner. He’s given you nearly three years worth of material! Deer in the headlight crickets. FOCUS. And now another slip out the back. State Fair naming rights and episodes of “This Old People’s House” should not be what is making news.

  22. - DuPage Bard - Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 11:57 pm:

To that end, Rauner and his aides didn’t disclose the hard numbers until after he spoke. When they did, the news was bleak: the governor estimates the state will have $32.7 billion to spend in the budget year that begins July 1. But the governor proposed spending $37.3 billion, and that’s after about $2.7 billion worth of politically tricky cuts Rauner suggested, meaning the hole is likely larger.

    So where’s your balanced budget?

  23. - Ron of Japan - Wednesday, Jun 7, 17 @ 5:01 am:

A special investigative news report was broadcast on WGN - Channel 9 yesterday. It tracked a former area manufacturing business that relocated from Bedford Park, Illinois to East Chicago, Indiana. Across the board, the tax burden cost savings were substantial. $2.00 per square foot in Cook County, $0.43 in Indiana. Not to mention worker’s comp savings. The business is prospering and expanding in its new location. It plans to add 500 jobs. An employee who moved with the business was interviewed and he spoke about the cost of living being much more affordable and having more consumer buying power. Across the border in Hegewisch, thirty percent of the business spaces are vacant. The entire segment was fairly damning as towards Madigan and his property tax assessment racket.

  24. - Ann - Wednesday, Jun 7, 17 @ 6:35 am:

The Tribune had this jaw-dropping quote from the Hegewisch event. “It’s breaking my heart. It’s so frustrating,” Rauner said at an event in the South Side community of Hegewisch, where he was promoting his property tax freeze idea. “The folks in power need to recognize we can’t keep doing what we’ve been doing.” http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-medicaid-lawsuit-hearing-met-0607-20170606-story.html
