It tracked a former area manufacturing business that relocated from Bedford Park, Illinois to East Chicago, Indiana. Across the board, the tax burden cost savings were substantial. $2.00 per square foot in Cook County, $0.43 in Indiana. Not to mention worker’s comp savings. The business is prospering and expanding in its new location. It plans to add 500 jobs. An employee who moved with the business was interviewed and he spoke about the cost of living being much more affordable and having more consumer buying power. Across the border in Hegewisch, thirty percent of the business spaces are vacant.
