Why is she running against “Madigan’s machine”? What the heck does how Mike Madigan runs one half of one branch of state government have to do with the duties of the attorney general?
I don’t think running against Madigan is all bad. Heck, everybody else is. I question the Miss America inclusion, though, unless it’s to trigger name recognition.
I know Mike Madigan isn’t popular and few people will care, but I find it disturbing that she’s essentially saying she’s running for AG to use the office to go after a particular person for no obvious reason other than Republicans don’t like that person.
C. It’s not a great ad. The visuals come at you strong negative at the start and then strong positive at the end, so messaging has a feeling of cognitive dissonance (at least to me.) I like her and I think she’ll make it through the primary but I hope she can up her ad game for the general.
She’s a very attractive candidate and that helps make for a very attractive ad. You can only cover so much in a :15. This gets the job done. The most resounding message in the state is Madigan must be stopped…this ad says exactly that. Solid.
“The most resounding message in the state is Madigan must be stopped…
From doing what, exactly? I think he should let someone younger take over, but I don’t think he’s some kind of criminal mastermind determined to take over the world.
It tells me nothing about her, who she is, how she is qualified, or what she has accomplished professionally. All I know is she went to Harvard and will stand up to Madigan. Well, Scott Drury said he would stand up to Madigan too. And HE’s a former federal prosecutor.
And what does she mean “stand up” to Madigan? Does she mean like the Guv has stood up to him?
Funny thing is that on the campaign trail and in edit boards, Harold has been pretty responsible on the Madigan question, not over claiming her authority as AG or making it all about Madigan. But the guy who “discovered” her needs her singing from the same hymnal.
Oddly did not mention the Illinois Constitution. Does she know what the job is all about? Clearly political and aimed at underinformed voters. Feels like an assault on my intelligence. D-
Not impressive. D Can she talk or is she waiting for Bruce and the BTIA to tell her what to say? Just what we need someone in the AG office who will do what Rauner tell them.
== Clearly political and aimed at underinformed voters. Feels like an assault on my intelligence. ==
OK, now that made me laugh out loud. Uh, yes, it’s an advertisement–a political ad in a polluted sea of political ads for myriad candidates that have been assaulting peoples’ intelligence for months. And yet *this* is the one that got you riled beyond measure.
I don’t think it matters what the ad says, in a literal sense. More figuratively, it says: I’m young, I’m a woman, I have some credentials, I’m anti-Madigan. Maybe that’s good enough for many people.
Erica has no chance of winning. She is weak and has lots of baggage, which, if she is elected as the GOP primary, the Democrats will bring it out and savage her with it. Our bench in the Illinois Republican party is non-existent and with the waste created by the Ives/profit war on all republicans that refuse to kiss the rings Breen/Profit/Ives, The Republican Brand is destroyed and will be a life time to rebuild if Illinois lights don’t go out before then.
She complained when Kwame called her Miss America, and even made him apologize for it. But then all she does in this commercial is flash her beautiful smile as if she running on the fact that she was Miss America. You can’t have it both ways counselor.

Not a real strong ad. Suspect it is good enough to carry the day with many voters. Not sure if she is there yet; but she has the potential to be a rock star candidate with the right guidance and financial support (both of which I question). Beautiful, female, minority, smart, downstate & Chicago connections, etc. I don’t know if she is dynamic in working the room or speaking; but that other stuff checks off a lot of boxes and appeals to a lot of different voting segments.
FWIW: I’m convinced that most voters are uninformed or misinformed voters. Can’t really explain a lot of election results otherwise.
The fact that she has to run a primary ad when everyone in the punditocracy was all but calling her the general election candidate says all you need to know about how weak her campaign has been.
I watched Erica Harold’s ad but I was unable to find any governemental experience listed. Also who financed her campaign? Is she anti gun control and anti abortion?

The AG has a bunch of jobs. “Holding Springfield accountable” really isn’t one of them. Accountable to what and whom?

Is she running to head a PAC? The AG defends the work of the legislature, not attacks it.

I know this is older but are those still her positions? If so, its not like she can say anything else in her commercials that will help her right now.
