The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 478 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 9 additional deaths. In addition, more than 67% of Illinois adults have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and nearly 51% of Illinois adults are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Cook County: 1 female 50s, 1 female 60s, 1 male 60s, 1 female 70s, 1 female 90s
Kane County: 1 male 80s
McLean County: 1 male 40s
Rock Island County: 1 female 70s
Will County: 1 female 80s
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,383,065 cases, including 22,842 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 35,697 specimens for a total of 24,676,057. As of last night, 1,013 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 278 patients were in the ICU and 150 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from May 26-June 1, 2021 is 1.5%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from May 26-June 1, 2021 is 1.8%.
A total of 11,338,305 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of last midnight. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 41,234 doses. Yesterday, 29,322 doses were reported administered in Illinois.

It has been nice having easy access on this site I regularly visit. But all one has to do is go to idph website and look in the recent news section on the front page for this info. Maybe provide a link and instructions on June 11 with your last regular update so others can find the info in the future if they would like?

A steady decline in vaccination rates is a potential story. If we stall out and the total percentage vaccinated is too low, COVID will be with us forever.
Maybe once a week post the seven day moving average for vaccinations.

I agree with Pot. This is valuable information, especially as more and more people seem OK with not wearing a mask. Maybe 1 or 2 times a week? Or the link to IDPH is a good idea too. This feature is the first thing I read (meaning I don’t skip to politics first).

I agree that this daily post has been incredibly useful, and I find myself coming here for this information instead of going to IDPH. I like suggestions to keep this information on the blog in some way - either through a data box on the side or a weekly update. It is your blog though, so do what you think is best.

Today confirms the weekend numbers weren’t anomalies. We’re really seeing the end. Except maybe in a few places where they don’t like vaxes. I think your 6/11 is a reasonable target, though I’d love to have another week when I can come, see really low numbers, and beam happiness.

For me, if I had a vote, I’d keep it. We’ve watched the mostly bad news on this post for almost 15 months. The last few weeks it’s trended really well and provided good news. And that’s refreshing and I’d like to see it continue.

Your daily updates have been a lifeline to me throughout the pandemic, and for the better part of the past year the IDPH numbers and Gov. Pritzker’s daily pressers were the most reliable source of information, sometimes the only reliable source, I had access to — anywhere — and I still track the case and test positivity rates every day as a rough measure of community spread. It’s been a real service, and I’m deeply grateful.
That said, it may be time that we don’t need them on a daily basis anymore. As others have said, we have alternative sources of information.

The Washington Post has a very good article today showing the current infection and death rates among unvaccinated people. The reality is that we aren’t doing well (+50% the U.S. adjusted average). There’s a belief among the unvaccinated that things are better and they have nothing to worry about. That’s simply not the case. For the unvaccinated things are about as bad as they were at the peak. I guess the question is do we continue to show more concern for their health then they do?
