C.L. McCormick-CMS’s southern Illinois HR rep for many years.

  2. - morty - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:13 am:

gotta what out for those liberalized liberals

  3. - TheInvisibleMan - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:15 am:

I was in a Christian school in 1981.

That’s also the primary reason why I don’t support the concept of Christian schools today.

  4. - Ron Burgundy - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:17 am:

    Could it be…. “the” Satan?

  5. - lake county democrat - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:19 am:

While I wouldn’t bet on him winning either a crowded primary or the general, it would ironic if he wound up running for senator or governor in a midterm election that isn’t looking great for Democrats. Goodness knows he has more general election appeal than nearly any GOP name I can think of.

  6. - lake county democrat - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:20 am:

oops - sorry, I thought I had the Kinzinger page open!

  7. - 47th Ward - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:26 am:

===he has more general election appeal than nearly any GOP name I can think of.===

    John Amdor or CL McCormick?

  8. - Gruntled University Employee - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:30 am:

Next thing you know the liberalized liberals will be trying to name Satan as the State deity. /s

  9. - Cubs in '16 - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 10:43 am:

Pretty sure Satan would approve of some of the stuff that goes down in ‘Christian’ schools. We pulled our three kids out of a parochial school and enrolled them in public. It’s one of the best things we ever did for them.

  10. - Nieva - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 11:00 am:

Clyde always had a way with words…

  11. - zatoichi - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 11:22 am:

Always love the ‘Satan’ arguement. Right up there with ’socialism’, ‘communist’, ‘nazi’, ‘christian’, and ‘God’s revenge for…’ when you got nothing else. Claims of ‘left/right wing’ and ‘freedoms’ are slipping into that group.

  12. - Bigtwich - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 11:33 am:

Robert E Hartley writes of C. L. in his book The Dealmakers of Downstate Illinois. “. . . in 1956 he was elected to the state House of Representatives, where he learned from friends Powell and Choate. He occasionally voted with them in tghe prevalling mode of bipartisanship.”

  13. - JS Mill - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 11:39 am:

I too was in a christian (catholic) school in 1981. It took more than 20 years for the abuse of one of our priests, the associate pastor, to come to full light even though some of us knew at the time.

I am not a supporter of religious schools or the falsely pious politicians to this day.

  14. - Steve Rogers - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 11:42 am:

I suggest that Rep. McCormick file legislation to change the state slogan to “Land of Satan,” the state nickname to “The Satan State,” and the state motto to “Satan Sovereignty, Satan Union.”

  15. - PublicServant - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 11:50 am:

I prefer liberalized liberals over radicalized right-wingers and day.

  16. - OneMan - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 12:00 pm:

Gonna put it out there in this day in age requiring some things (like background checks) from everyone in that space isn’t a bad idea.

  17. - allknowingmasterofraccoodom - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 12:02 pm:

    So…was he wrong?

  18. - Cheryl44 - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 12:24 pm:

I found out recently the church I was forced to attend as a child opened a school after I graduated from high school and my parents moved out of the area. It’s closed now, apparently because the minister’s wife was found to be plying underage boys with demon rum and having her way with them.

  19. - Flying Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 1:30 pm:

    “So…was he wrong?”

Lemme tell you something about God-fearin’ C.L..

No state job in his district got filled lest his palm was greased.

In a long hx of Illinois political hucksters, C.L. stands behind none.

  20. - Dotnonymous - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 1:37 pm:

Robert E Hartley writes of C. L. in his book The Dealmakers of Downstate Illinois. “. . . in 1956 he was elected to the state House of Representatives, where he learned from friends Powell and Choate.

He was Howe to Dewey and Cheatum.

  21. - Candy Dogood - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 1:39 pm:

Given the extent to which the Catholic Church was enabling, shielding, and protecting child rapists this testimony hasn’t aged very well.

  22. - dr. reason a. goodwin - Friday, Oct 29, 21 @ 8:11 pm:

I was a reporter in the C.L. McCormick days. He was always good for a memorable sound bite. And his Gospel Sing political rallies were truly a site to behold.
