Garth Hudson
Tuesday, Jan 28, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller * Bob…
* Way back in the day, a bunch of us would gather every Sunday night at Bruce’s Tavern at 11th and South Grand for an open mic hosted by Springfield singer/songwriter Tom Irwin (more here). A handful of us, known as the Bruce’s Tavernacle Choir, would sing along with the featured performers. The Weight was one of our favorite songs… Who sent me here with her regards for everyone Thanks, Garth.

I had the good fortune to see the first concert of the Dylan/Band reunion tour at the Chicago Stadium in 1974. Garth - and the rest - were spectacular.
It’s a little hard to believe that all of the members of The Band are now gone.

I was also very lucky to get tickets to the 1/3/74 show. Seated behind the goal in hockey terms. Got a great view of Garth playing piano on Rag Mama Rag. A great memory. RIP Garth.

Was just watching The Last Waltz last night. Everyone should be rewatching this. RIP Garth.

I, also, was at the Dylan concert at the stadium in the early ’70s.
Just thinking about it, but couldn’t remember the year - so, thanks.

The Band - original, poignant, legendary.
Had the gift of making something you had never heard before sound somehow familiar.
Levon, Robbie, Richard, Rick and Garth - now all gone.
Their timeless music stands on its own in the pantheon of greatness.
The Last Waltz indeed - RIP gentlemen.

Music From Big Pink, The Band Album, Stage Freight, Cahoots, and Northern Lights/Southern Cross. All great albums by the Band.

Saw Mavis Staples in December. She performed The Weight near the end of the set with Jackson Browne and Margo Price. Incredible song and incredible performance.
