Mentioned in last Friday’s afternoon roundup, listened this morning to Sound Opinions podcast on Jerry Butler’s passing and his past with the Impressions. Always good to learn about Chicago musicians on Greg and Jim’s podcast.

The owner of a portable room divider company is moving his factory from Springfield to Clinton after a long dispute over compliance with Springfield zoning and building codes. Clinton apparently worked to woo the company over, being desperate for new jobs after the Donelley printing plant shut down. The move sparked a debate about the tension between encouraging business development versus holding those businesses accountable to established rules and regulations, particularly health and safety related standards. Guy was apparently trying to do production before making the required safety improvements to the building he bought in Springfield, or couldn’t satisfy the inspection paperwork.
But to me it sounds like another CEO who just doesn’t think the rules apply to him like they do to everyone else. A trend I see too much of these days.

Agreed. I read the article from the Illinois Times. There is a quote from a Springfield official, “they did alterations to the building without ever acquiring any permits or submitting any plans of any kind” The article goes on to state, “Among the changes made were alterations to the building’s electrical and fire safety systems, he said.”
I remember Rich saying he expected Durbin would be making his electoral intentions known in March which now is just a day away.
Here’s hoping we get a nice Casimir Pulaski Day press release announcing his retirement.
It’s unacceptable that even after Trump senselessly fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and all the senior JAG officials in every branch, Durbin thought it appropriate to just a couple days later cast a meaningless 66th vote in favor of Trump’s Secretary of the Army pick.
A supposed whip of an opposition party has a responsibility to do the work to actually lead opposition to an administration that is out of control and abusing its power. Durbin is not up to that job.
