Pause for the cause

Friday, Jan 28, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I am in dire need of a haircut and I made an appointment for lunchtime. But, when I did, I forgot that Sangamon County Judge Reylene Grischow could issue an order or decision today on the Tom DeVore case(s). Too late to back out now, so if something breaks while I’m gone, you can use this post to discuss. Keep a close eye on the live coverage post. Otherwise, it’s just another open thread.

…Adding… MD 2020 is called “Mad Dog” for good reason. Stay away from that stuff…

  1. - Thomas Paine - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 12:26 pm:

ICYMI: Illinois started out the pandemic with the highest deaths per capita in the Midwest and one of the highest in the country, before we had good science, good strategies, and good medical interventions.

Now, despite many hold outs, and opposition to that science, strategies and interventions led by Republican Party members, things have turned noticeably.

Illinois has fallen to 25th in cases per capita in the US and 30th in deaths per capita. We now also have one of the best records in the Midwest (Minnesota, what’s your secret?)

Still a long way to go, and I don’t think that Omicron is done with Rural Illinois I think it’s just getting started. But we have made tremendous progress as a state, and every once in awhile you need to take a moment to celebrate how far you have come even when a long road lies ahead.

I’ve not colored my hair for two years now. It’s at a point where I debate whether to bother with it again.

  3. - Bruce( no not him) - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 1:13 pm:

It is better to look good than to wait around for a ruling.

  4. - Rabid - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 1:16 pm:

You just want to show off your ears wendsday

  5. - TheInvisibleMan - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 1:40 pm:

I went full home-style buzzcut when the pandemic started. Now it’s just a quick buzz every 3 weeks or so. I really enjoy having one less thing to worry about.

Hello? Did the batteries die on your Flowbee?
I need content to distract me from real work.

I can’t resist the compulsion to type this, but at least I can resist the compulsion to complete it. That’s the story of my life as a commenter here.

  8. - Just Me 2 - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 1:55 pm:

Candy - don’t color it. Former Tribune reporter Mary Wisnewski wrote an entire column about this and said she wished she had never died her hair.

  9. - 47th Ward - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 1:57 pm:

As Jesse Sullivan is to needing a running mate?

  10. - hisgirlfriday - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 2:04 pm:

Robin Kelly’s new pup looks adorable

  11. - JoanP - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 2:04 pm:

    @ Candy -

Grow it out and see what it’s like. You may be very pleasantly surprised. I was!

  12. - H-W - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 2:21 pm:

Crickets. (Will this be a 5:00, release the ruling and get out of Dodge moment?)

  13. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 2:24 pm:

    ===5:00, release the ruling and===

Not many judges work on Friday afternoons.

  14. - Friendly Bob Adams - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 2:41 pm:

Invisible- I have been buzzed since the pandemic began. Made me wonder why I bothered getting real haircuts given my natural lack of hair on most of my head.

  15. - Annonin' - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 3:05 pm:

thinkin’ Capt Fax should sport some dreadlocks for Big Speech day next week.

  16. - Roadrager - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:08 pm:

DeVore swills the Mad Dog because in his town growing up, they banned Wild Irish Rose to keep the “immigrants” away.

  17. - Bruce( no not him) - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:14 pm:

    MD2020
    That explains a lot.

  18. - Arsenal - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:17 pm:

I’ve had a couple nights of Mad Dog in my time, but the stuff is pretty gross. God help us if it becomes the new mark of Trump-ian “authenticity”.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:18 pm:

DeVore consistency and continually tells us who he is as he grifts.

I do appreciate the no costumes or phony in that regard.

  20. - In the Know - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:18 pm:

@Bruce - not just any MD 2020, but ORANGE. Why am I not surprised?

  21. - Nobody Sent - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:21 pm:

It sounds like DeVore needs some more education if he doesn’t recognize and accept basic public health guidelines.

    Hopefully not on MD 2020
    Oh, you’re talking about hair.

  24. - JS Mill - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:25 pm:

I hate to break it to mr. tough guy “keepin it real” Mcgrifter, but the very wealthy kids I knew growing up drank MD. And it wasn’t cool then.

    What a loser.

  25. - hisgirlfriday - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:29 pm:

What is the case # for this. I wish all news articles on court cases said the case # and all news articles on legislation said the bill #.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jan 28, 22 @ 4:34 pm:

You’d think DeVore would opine about “Kentucky Bourbon Old Fashioneds” and savoring victories.

    “Mad Dog”… mad dog… huh…

    Mad. Dog.

    Ah. Ok. Oh.
