* `Dumbest Idea Ever’ Used as Pensions Plug Deficits

Pension bonds are making a comeback, as states and cities from Alaska to Philadelphia bet they can use the proceeds to help fill deficits in their retirement funds and still generate a higher return than what they pay in interest.

That’s an odd story out of the Secretary of State’s office. The U.S. Secret Service? They provide protection and chase counterfeiters. What are they doing here?

  2. - The Rookie - Thursday, May 1, 08 @ 10:29 am:

One thing about the CA giving free-rides to military personnel is that it dosn’t help U.S. Marines.

By the rules, it says that the military person must present ID and be fully dressed in uniform to get a free ride on the CTA. But U.S. Marines aren’t allowed to wear their uniform outside of their base or duty station. That’s Marine Corps orders.

Just doesn’t seem fair if you ask me.

  3. - PhilCollins - Thursday, May 1, 08 @ 10:46 am:

Marines aren’t allowed to wear camouflage uniforms off-base, unless they are going between home and base and stay in their vehicles, during the trip. They may wear all other uniforms anywhere. Navy members (E-1 - E-6) also have a uniform (dungarees) which may only be worn at home, on base, and driving between home and base. I was in the navy for 21 years, including eight years in marine units.
