Making stuff up

Friday, Aug 10, 2012

* The Republican Party of Illinois has sent out a new e-mail which implies that retiring Chicago FBI chief Robert Grant was talking about House Speaker Michael Madigan in John Kass’ column today. The e-mail’s headline…

ICYMI: The Madigan Rules??

* From the e-mail…

Grant went on to say that there are politicians “who have networks of relationships, real estate firms, law firms, service firms, and you can’t get a permit passed unless you do business with those entities connected to the family.”

From the actual quote

“There are aldermen who have networks of relationships, real estate firms, law firms, service firms, and you can’t get a permit passed unless you do business with those entities connected to the family.”

Speaker Madigan has had more than his share of failures. Just look around you. I’ve called him a walking conflict of interest. There really isn’t a need to make stuff up. Just sticking to the facts is more than enough. But I suppose that’s too much to ask of an organization that sees a Madigan ghost under every bed.

I am positively flummoxed to discover that all those times I got stuff from the city- sidewalk repair by my building, a loading zone assignment by my former office, a city sticker for my car- that it was not because I called the appropriate number and asked nicely but because of MADIGAN.

He did all that for me and I didn’t even know!!

  3. - just sayin' - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 12:40 pm:

This Pat Brady and the people around him clearly have a very disturbing obsession with Mike Madigan. It’s beyond just jealousy. Seems unhinged.

  4. - Jimbo - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 12:42 pm:

When you are the most powerful and obvious political figure in the state you can expect to be implicated ,justified or not,in this states most commonly known enterprise-corruption.Mr Madigan, however is a very disciplined and orderly person unlikely to have left any trail of supposed wrongdoing

“Cook County Judges Grants Restraining Order Against ‘Creepy’ Pat Brady & ILGOP for MJM” …

It is snark, but might not be too far off if this obsession gets creepier …

This making stuff up to try and make political points, as it appears the ILGOP wants to go on … It is borderline sad and creepy.

Facts are good … stick to them… they’re your friends.

  6. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 1:00 pm:

I’m sure Pat Brady is deeply concerned about the various networks associated with the Stephens family in Rosemont and the GOP organization in Cicero.

  7. - Sue - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 1:04 pm:

Grant is absolutely correct- I had a former client tell me that he contacted his alderman(not Mike Madigan) for assistance about permits for a rail siding which would have allowed for increased employment at his facility- the alderman in question started off the discussion by providing the company with a brochure advertising the alderman’s tax reduction practice-of course no demand to hire the firm was made but one didn’t have to be Albert Einstein to see what was occurring- the only reason more indictments don’t take place is people continue to look the other way when this type of thing happens

  8. - Esquire - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 1:52 pm:

Do Pat Brady and the ILGOP actually manage to any funds from the constant attacks upon Madigan? It is like listening to a child pound on the same piano key repeatedly.

  9. - Sideliner - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 2:03 pm:

Great Caesar’s ghost Madigan has taken over Capital Fax!

  10. - OneMan - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 2:20 pm:

Just wait until you see their new Madigan-Libs books, every blank is filled in with

    Mike Madigan…

  11. - too obvious - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 2:32 pm:

    Good point wordslinger.

Yeah it’s total crickets from Pat Brady and the IL GOP when it comes to Rosemont Inc., Cicero Inc., Griffin Inc., Cellini Inc., Horsies Inc., etc. etc. Total hypocrites.

  12. - Endangered Moderate Species - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 2:52 pm:

The ILGOP is adamant to run the anti-Madigan theme all the way to November. It may be good red meat for their base but I am not sure how it brings them new supporters. They seem to have forgotten how to win friends and influence people. I guess Brady is no Carnegie.

  13. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 3:15 pm:

Word is Madigan hatched his global warming scheme in 1983 at the behest of a law firm client who sells window fans.

A journalist interviewing Grant might have asked him why, if he has evidence of criminal activity by alderman, the FBI never brought that info to the US Attorney or the US Attorney never acted on it.

A journalist probably would have said “name them”.

The justice department should be talking to grant about withholding evidence.

  14. - too obvious - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 3:18 pm:

Most voters if they even know who M. Madigan is, don’t have the slightest idea why they are supposed to hate him like Pat Brady does.

  15. - Just the Facts - Friday, Aug 10, 12 @ 4:12 pm:

What’s next from the Repubs? Madigan was responsible for kidnapping the Lindbergh baby? Madigan was responsible for Amelia Earhart disappearing? Did you ever notice that Madigan’s rise to power came not too long after fluoride was introduced into municipal water supplies?
