*** LIVE *** State Fair Governor’s Day coverage

Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012

* Gov. Pat Quinn inadvertently made news today when he said during a speech to Democratic Party leaders that “Obama is dead.” A bit later he corrected himself and said “Osama is dead,” admitting he “goofed that one up.”

Oy.

* I’ll be racing in the annual “celebrity” harness race today at the fairgrounds. The race will begins at about 3 o’clock, or after the Governor’s Day event, whichever is later. Steve Brown, John Patterson and Kelly Kraft will also be in the race.

* On to the live coverage. BlackBerry users click here. Everybody else can just watch as it goes by. We’ll be posting videos to this feed today as well…

Gov. Quinn the worst governor in the U.S.

  2. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 11:38 am:

Billy, you need to either up your game and start leaving longer comments or find somewhere else to post.

  3. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 11:48 am:

It is a weird quirk of history that two such similar and relatively rare names — “Obama,” “Osama” — came together on the world stage in such a prominent manner.

  4. - Just Me - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 11:52 am:

I think Billy was referencing the DH post where Quinn called Walsh the worst Congressman in America. When I saw that I couldn’t help but think back to the love fest Quinn had for our congressional delegation a few years ago where he gave them all his personal cell phone. I wonder if he ever gave Walsh his personal cell phone when Walsh was elected.

  5. - Billy - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 11:59 am:

Thanks Just Me. My response was to the Governors comment!

  6. - SteveBrown - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 12:38 pm:

Look for House D Staffer Samantha Olds to sub for Brown in the buggy today…..sure winner

  7. - Anon - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 2:05 pm:

I wonder if they’ll be at the Fair tomorrow to protest the Republicans.

  8. - Crime Fighter - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 2:16 pm:

@ Anon 2:05pm: “I wonder if they’ll be at the Fair tomorrow to protest the Republicans.”
Quinn and the Dems in part got elected because of they lied about being pro-worker, ethical and pro-middle class. They’ve betrayed the state on all of these. Republicans have been open about their contempt for honesty, ethics, working folks and the middle class. Protesting against Republicans for who they are is not the same as protesting Quinn and his fellow faux-dems betrayal and attacks they have visited upon working people.

  9. - Fed up - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 2:33 pm:

Good video Rich seems the people of the state have figured out Quin”liar liar liar”.

  10. - heet101 - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 2:40 pm:

    With friends like these…

By the way, I was booed (as a joke by some of my ‘best’ friends) before, during, and after I made the best man toast. It was funny for me and my friends, but they eventually stopped and we all had a good laugh. I’m unsure we’ll see a similar result here.

  11. - WazUp - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 2:45 pm:

…and here’s the video they wouldn’t show ‘Pat Quinn loses it!’

  12. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 2:53 pm:

    @Rich -

Great video post of the Madigan press availability. As always, chats with the Speaker are both highly informative and highly entertaining.

  13. - LINK - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 2:54 pm:

Maybe just me, and sorry if I sound critical, but it’s something I noticed more than a week ago about how tan the Governor is lately?

According to what I have read he is working hard at the capi….I mean up in Chicago for us, so I have wonder if he hits a tanning facility…

  14. - RMD - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 3:15 pm:

He must be attending the Joe Biden school of speech.

  15. - sal-says - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 3:37 pm:

The best part of watching Blago is waiting for his next foot-in-mouth-ism. Oooops…..I mean Quinn….I goofed that one up.

“RT @SpeakerMadigan: I expect IL GOP will have a peaceful gathering at the fair tomorrow. Just remember, no one boos the irrelevant.”

The unfortunate part of this comment is that it’s true.

  18. - western illinois - Wednesday, Aug 15, 12 @ 8:28 pm:

The GOP is so irrleevant it got a civil war going among democrats and their biggest funders. Oeration Chaos worked fund to be irrelevant
