*** UPDATED x1 *** Another $1.5 million from Rauner

Friday, Jul 18, 2014

* I have a feeling this is gonna become so commonplace that by late October it might not even be newsworthy. Rick Pearson

Republican Bruce Rauner plowed $1.5 million more into his campaign for governor against Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn, newly filed reports with the State Board of Elections showed today.

The latest donation brings to nearly $8.1 million the amount of personal funds Rauner has given to his first-time bid for public office.

*** UPDATE *** From the Quinnsters…

Bruce Rauner Donates Another $1.5 Million to Himself

Rauner Continues Hiding Complete Income Tax Forms from Previous Three Years That Would Disclose Sources of Income to Public

CHICAGO – One day after proposing a tax plan that would decimate public education and create a whole new tax on services across Illinois, Bruce Rauner today contributed another $1.5 million to himself, bringing the grand total of Rauner’s mostly self-funded campaign to $8.1 billion.

However, despite calls from the media and Governor Pat Quinn to release his complete income tax return documents like other candidates have done, Rauner is continuing to hide the information that would shed light on his sources of income from the public. Governor Quinn, nominee for Lt. Governor Paul Vallas and even presidential candidate Mitt Romney released their complete income tax records.

Below is a statement from Quinn for Illinois Communications Director Brooke Anderson:

“Until Bruce Rauner releases his complete income tax returns, the public is left in the dark about how he made the millions of dollars he is now using to bankroll false television ads against Governor Quinn.

“The people of Illinois deserve to know the facts about their candidates’ finances.

    “What exactly is Rauner hiding?”

    “Meet Ken Griffin.

Ken Griffin is worth over $4 billion dollars, and has given Bruce Rauner $4 million dollars, so far, to be HIS governor.

We know Bruce Rauner, the billionaire who has spent $8 million dollars, so far, running for governor with his $18 dollar watch.

Together, Bruce Rauner and his billionaire buddy have spent over $12 million dollars, and counting, to control $35 billion dollars of Illinois money. But, that’s what venture capitalists do. They try to buy things.

Don’t let Bruce Rauner and his billionaire buddy buy Illinois. It belongs to the people, not Ken & Bruce Rauner.”

    Spitballing…

    To the Post,

    The mitigating factor in looking at Rauner’s financials in this race is never the COH, or what is taken in, be it raised or put in by Bruce himself;

The factor is the burn rate, and how fast the money poured in, is out in media buys, political support of others, or his expenses.

There will never be a “wanting” of monies in that campaign.

I think it’s already old news. From here on out, I think the milestones will be when he passes increments of 10: Ten million, twenty million, thirty million…..

  6. - Meanderthal - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 1:41 pm:

Hoorah! Although I can’t believe anyone would have to spend another nickel to tell an Illinois voter that Pat Quinn isn’t up to the job and should be retired.

  7. - Norseman - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 1:44 pm:

Diane, I’m tired of carrying around this spare pocket change. Can you please send it to the campaign?

  8. - LizPhairTax - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 1:49 pm:

Rauner “plowed” the money this time. Carhartt earned.

  9. - hisgirlfriday - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 1:54 pm:

If he’s gonna blow all this money on his campaign could he at least hire Illinois-based consultants to give our economy more of a boost instead of outsourcing this stuff to other states where he has homes?

  10. - Toure's Latte - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 2:03 pm:

“What is he hiding?” is their comeback? “Oh, yeah?” is more concise.

Somewhere, somehow, somebody remind me Quinn’s campaign staff is not on Rauner’s payroll.

“Bruce Rauner today contributed another $1.5 million to himself, bringing the grand total of Rauner’s mostly self-funded campaign to $8.1 billion.”

He’s donated himself $8.1 billion? Brooke, check for the typo. Unless Bruce has really said he’s all-in and then some!

  12. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 2:22 pm:

    (Sigh)

    Dear Brooke Anderson,

Read this paragraph for a sec…

===… Bruce Rauner today contributed another $1.5 million to himself, bringing the grand total of Rauner’s mostly self-funded campaign to $8.1 billion.===

    Was that “$8.1…Billion?”

You had the quip of the campaign year, then you give me “$8.1 billion” out of your shop?

There are a billion reasons this is Dopey, but you only need one proofread to see why.

    Your pal,

    Oswego Willy

However many millions it might take to fire your boss. He’s graciously showing you $1.5M at a time.

Wake me when he reaches Blair Hull levels (which in today’s $ has to be over 30)

==If he’s gonna blow all this money on his campaign could he at least hire Illinois-based consultants to give our economy more of a boost instead of outsourcing this stuff to other states where he has homes?==

As far as I know most of his campaign staff is from Illinois. You going to say Quinn should limit all his help to strictly illinois based people/unions too?

  16. - OneMan - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 3:28 pm:

Bruce Rauner today contributed another $1.5 million to himself, bringing the grand total of Rauner’s mostly self-funded campaign to $8.1 billion

So my guess is her auto-correct just changes million to billion now

Also when you complain about the other guys ads and link to a site that points out your guy has the worst job creation record in the Midwest you have some issues…

  17. - Demoralized - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 3:32 pm:

Wouldn’t it be a bigger story if he didn’t donate to his own campaign?

  18. - OneMan - Friday, Jul 18, 14 @ 3:37 pm:

Well I suppose it is a better response than…

“Well we would rather he not raise and spend that kind of money to try beat us”
