Sandack temporarily shuts down three of his four social media accounts

Wednesday, Jul 20, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I’ve been getting a lot of calls, e-mails and texts asking me if I know why Rep. Ron Sandack has apparently deleted both of his Twitter accounts and his personal Facebook account. His official Facebook account is still active, however.

Sandack is one of the most active users of social media in all of Illinois politics, so I reached out to him the other day. Here’s our text chat via MightyText…

I wondered why the Internet was so fast today.

  2. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:19 am:

Geez, the guy probably has the shakes going cold turkey like that.

The “some people have far too much time on their hands” line is hilarious coming from someone who feels compelled to update the world on the contents of his navel multiples times a day.

  3. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:21 am:

He’s not tweeting right now, Illinois has too many problems that he needs to tend to. You know, using the Governor’s logic. Has anyone asked Radogno and Durkin why they aren’t tending to Illnois’ problems with the Governor in Illinois?

  4. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:22 am:

    I miss his tweets like…

@RonSandack - I’m frustrated 2, but taking steps towards reforming IL more important than short term budget stalemate. - Ron Sandack, 9/28/15

I want Ron Sandack to get back to Twitter as quickly as possible.

I can’t make up tweets better than Ron Sandack tweets them.

The Owl would’ve been perfect this week during the convention.

  5. - How Ironic - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:22 am:

Oh my. Madigan and the hackers he controls have really messed up Sandack’s day.

  6. - Annonin' - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:27 am:

Yikes no comments from SlicKHeadSandy…we will all be lesser for it

  7. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:27 am:

–Madigan and the hackers he controls have really messed up Sandack’s day.–

LOL, I doubt if even Rauner would find it plausible to accuse the Madigan crew of “hacking,” given their ancient communications delivery methods.

    Stealing Pony Express horses, maybe….

  8. - Ok - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:28 am:

Was it the Nigerian Princes? It was the Nigerian Princes, wasn’t it…

  9. - Formerly Known as Frenchie M - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:37 am:

“Hacking” — a modern day euphemism for: “I’ve been told my tweets are a bit rabid. I’ve been told to cool it.”

  10. - burbanite - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:38 am:

    Who? Who?

  11. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:45 am:

he’s not wrong to be careful. and based on what Leslie Jones faced, it takes Twitter far too long to get to resolution. they finally banished the nasty, nationally known troll and hate leader, the tech guy at Breitbart. and since he still has supporters in high internet places, he and others can act out, so careful on the web. taking care is easier than getting trashed and trying to extricate. criticism is one thing. hacking, creating a Twitter account to try and take over someone’s on line life, leading a storm of nasty trolls, that’s quite another thing. there’s a group of people out there who claim freedom of speech when they are really thieves and hate merchants.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 10:51 am:

I will be “surprised” if the “Democrat Staff” didn’t catalog all those Sandack tweets… like…

@RonSandack - I’m frustrated 2, but taking steps towards reforming IL more important than short term budget stalemate. - Ron Sandack, 9/28/15

A wise bunch woulda already made screen shots of all Sandack’s “Greatest Hits” (or misses, but I digess)…

    A wise bunch would’ve done that…

The twitter-verse was fun with a few tweeting “Where’s @RonSandack?”

    I think many miss him.

    Like me.

    “Who will fill the void?”

    Who.

  13. - Last Bull Moose - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:03 am:

Not high on Sandack, but I hate hackers. Hope they catch them.

  14. - Reality Check - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:08 am:

It would be convenient if he suddenly returns next week after the troglodyte circus in Cleveland.

  15. - A guy - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:14 am:

Now, if Madigan starts Tweeting…we’ll know we’ve reached a new plateau.

  16. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:22 am:

–I will be “surprised” if the “Democrat Staff” didn’t catalog all those Sandack tweets…–

Even if they did, how would they communicate them? Carrier pigeon? Smoke signals?

For a year, I’ve been waiting for the Democrats to build a simple, updateable website documenting the damage of “squeeze the beast”: the who, what, when and where of broken state contracts, layoffs, shuttered programs, citizens losing services, etc.

How all these alleged three-dimensional chess masters can’t see the power of making those horrible facts easily accessible to press and public is beyond me.

It’s also beyond political malpractice, it’s just plain stupid.

Well, you have me there, I was thinking Cable Ads or mail…. but you have - Wordslinger -, asked where is the electronic footprint by the Illinois Democrats… and it’s still non-existent.

It goes along with the ridiculously horrible way the HDems lose the media day too.

We will see… how far the malpractice goes.

  18. - unclesam - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:48 am:

My understanding is that this hack also involved threats to Rep. Sandack and his family, and authorities are involved.

Regardless of how much we like to poke fun at Rep. Sandack from time to time…this situation is always unacceptable to me.

  19. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:51 am:

Uncle Sam, maybe you should let him speak for himself, if he chooses to, as what you are describing is a highly personal and delicate matter.

  20. - unclesam - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 11:59 am:

Thank you Word. Will keep that in mind in the future.

  21. - A guy - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 1:00 pm:

U Sam, now get back to class. It’s your last warning before detention. /s

  22. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 1:04 pm:

I hope it didn’t have anything to do with this:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/bluesky/technology/ct-twitter-bans-milo-yiannopoulos-harassment-lat-bsi-20160720-story.html

People behaving badly on Twitter. Again.

  23. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 2:36 pm:

I giggled when I read his “some people have far too much time on their hands” comment. I’ve said that for a long time about the Senator. He’s a social media addict.

  24. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 2:48 pm:

@47th, that is what I wrote about above, but I deigned to link or mention that offending person’s name. the guy continues to be a firestorm of offense on line, you can find his latest antics linked at the top of Drudge, and the “article” finds ways yet again to insult and harass Leslie Jones.

  25. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 3:01 pm:

Word, the “three-dimensional chess masters” have a footprint out there. It’s low-profile, though; almost Anonnymous.

  26. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 3:21 pm:

    AA: Who me?

    Kidding. Walker

  27. - Precinct Captain - Wednesday, Jul 20, 16 @ 3:33 pm:

I guess Tax Hike Ron couldn’t take the heat of voting for higher property taxes in Illinois.

  28. - Red tower - Thursday, Jul 21, 16 @ 5:23 am:

Well I guess this will teach him not to make all his passwords ‘ILuvRauner1′ ❤️❤️❤️💕
