“While the world was changing around him, Boss Madigan stayed the same - choosing to tighten his grip on power over fixing a broken status quo. Forty-six years of damage is enough. It’s time for House Democrats to embrace reform and toss Boss Madigan into the dustbin of history.” - Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Aaron DeGroot
Following the release of the Boss Madigan Quiz, the Illinois Republican Party continued its countdown towards January 11th, the election for Speaker of the Illinois House. With six days left until Decision Day, the Illinois Republican Party is releasing a digital ad highlighting major world events that have occurred during Mike Madigan’s unprecedented forty-six years in Springfield.
While the world was witnessing history-making events such as the resignation of an American president, the collapse of Communism, and the advent of new technologies, Mike Madigan, the longest serving House Speaker in United States history, amassed political power to the benefit of his corrupt Chicago Machine.
Next week, House Democrats face an historic choice - side with taxpayers and embrace bipartisan, broadly popular reforms or side with Illinois’ most unpopular career politician, Chicago Political Boss Mike Madigan, and his status quo.
The future of Illinois is at stake. Voters are watching and they will not forget.
Wait… so does MJM get credit for the Hawks and Cubs championships?! And Apple? And the Bears Super Bowl? And tearing down the wall? And the Bulls 6 championships? And taking out Osama bin Laden? And, I guess, even the White Sox World Series?
Look at all those things that have been accomplished since MJM was elected the Speaker?
Rauner wants compromise, a budget, state universities, social services… Rauner wants to work with Democrats and Madigan.
…
That’s what I’m suppose to believe… and then watch this video?
To the Post,
Take the 5 minutes to read Bernie’s interview with McClain.
Two big takeaways… From the column… First…
===”The lack of civility is just horrific,” said McClain, 69, of Quincy, about attacks aimed at House Speaker MICHAEL MADIGAN, D-Chicago, during a budget impasse that has now lasted 18 months. “To call people sleazy and corrupt and then to pretend like it’s nothing when you’re going after the heart and soul of people’s reputations, I just think it’s horrific.”===
Now this…
===CATHERINE KELLY, spokeswoman for Rauner, said: “As an outsider elected to shake up the status quo in Springfield, it’s no surprise Governor Rauner is disliked by a decades-long Springfield insider who made his living as a member of Speaker Madigan’s inner cabinet.===
Are these the same reforms candidate Rauner refused to be specific about when he ran for governor. If they are so “broadly popular” why did he have to hide them until after the election?
This is getting old I am tired of hearing about Madigan. Rauner needs to get to work. I hope voters see how he is more focused on bashing dems than doing his job.
Whoa! That is one wild commercial. Disco Demolition at Sox Park wild.
As much as I want higher ed fixed, Chicago State had to settle another major lawsuit due to its corrupt and venal administration. If there is a campus to be closed, it may have to be CSU.
Deft- just FYI Madigan used to be enemy number one to AFSCME during the pension fight. Madigan definitely wore the scent then. So I agree. But honestly Deft, Rauner is saying compromise on one end and bashing DEMS on the other
Saying one thing and doing another is what Perfidy is about.
Madigan isn’t doing or saying anything.
You have to have the inconsistency of doing and saying to make the scent.
the people ofmillinois deserve better than this constant campaigning. It’s time to govern, oh thatbwoikd take real policies and want to fix the budget. To fix the budget we need to raise taxes on the millionaires as the people of Illinois passed in 2014. Not a tax on sugar drinks which is a tax on the middle class.
The GOP’s compromise seems to be remove the tax increase on the millionaires and tax the middle class and poor

If I’m following this spot correctly, on Madigan’s watch Nixon resigned, Communism collapsed and there was a technological revolution?
Um, I think that gives him way too much credit, but “thanks,” I guess.
Somebody in the Illinois GOP must have gotten the complete Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia from Santa.

Man, a lot of great stuff has happened in the last 46 years. Thanks, Boss Madigan
- Keyrock - Thursday, Jan 5, 17 @ 11:52 am:
Did Boss Madigan invent email and cell phones, but then decide not to use them? I’m confused.
I guess this ad doesn’t work for me.
- Deft Wing - Thursday, Jan 5, 17 @ 11:55 am:
Rauner should own this because only government insiders/union flaks/PI lawyers and political hangers-on “defend” Madigan decades of … Perfidy!
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 5, 17 @ 12:07 pm:
Oh - Deft Wing -
Why doesn’t he?
LOL!
Your willful ignorance is noted.

Now the 46 defense - that was something ! Having a legislative leader for that many years-not so much

Gotta agreed with JoeMaddon. It was a very nice walk down memory lane, but kinda misses on all “legs” the “Because Madigan” theme;)

Now I would like to see a similar video that covers Rauner, and let’s include his business accomplishments.

If only Bruce put this kind of time, effort, and dedication into governing. Just think, we could have a budget!

Madigan is a dinosaur and needs to go.
