Pritzker releases statement in wake of Kennedy announcement

Wednesday, Feb 8, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Statement from JB Pritzker…

“As many people know, I’m seriously considering running for Governor. I’ve listened to people throughout Illinois, and it’s clear that our government isn’t working effectively for them. Governor Rauner has failed to address the real needs and concerns facing our state. We need a new leader with a record of getting results, who wakes up every day thinking about improving the lives of working families and people all across Illinois.”

    That. Was. Useless.

All those words, they said nothing.

Is there a Pritzker Word Jumble that I’m not aware of?

    (Face Palm)

  2. - RNUG - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:28 pm:

    Huh?

  3. - Saluki - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:31 pm:

Hey guys! Hey! I’m over here!

  4. - Reluctantly Living in ILL - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:31 pm:

    Wow!

If that’s the kind of soaring oration we can expect from him, save your time and money J.B.

  5. - Cadillac - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:31 pm:

    Cool story brah.

  6. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:34 pm:

    “Hi, jb,

Bruce Rauner is working for (Rauner Word Jumble), (Rauner Word Jumble), and (Rauner Word Jumble)

    (Phony close)

    Thanks!

    Fake ‘ck’…”

    Capiche, Pritzker Crew?

  7. - Person 8 - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:36 pm:

He should register as a Republican, and run against him in the primary. -s

  8. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:38 pm:

Prediction (before reading whatever that was) he’s out.

    1) The family likes sure bets and this ain’t one.

    2) The family has contributed a great deal to the State, City, and innumerable charities, but usually in the form of a check or a Board seat. Penny Pritzker took the Commerce spot from President Jarrett, er, Obama, basically because she had worked herself out of a job and the family hotel business and related entities were about to be sold.
    3) Anyone here ever spotted him in Springfield? Ever?

  9. - Stark - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:40 pm:

Maybe just focus on staying a billionaire instead of becoming a wordsmithing politician. /s

  10. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:46 pm:

    - Ok -

    Add to the discussion. Thanks.

    To the Post,

Also seems like Pritzker’s Crew was not prepared to adequately respond with a non-statement statement.

This is lazy just on its face.

  11. - lake county democrat - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:46 pm:

Anyone remember how the Democrats in Wisconsin had all this momentum to get rid of Scott Walker and looked like they had their nominee until the mayor of Milwaukee decided to challenge her in the recall primary? He won, with the help of some Rahm fundraising, but it sucked some energy and money out of the anti-Walker race and they ended up losing in a close vote. And if the race turned nasty, that’s a LOT of airtime throwing dirt on the eventual nominee.

  12. - A Jack - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:49 pm:

    J. B. could really get under Rauner’s skin by saying that he is all in for Kennedy, regardless of the cost, for the good of Illinois.

And you know, LT Gov would be a good part time job for a billionaire if he isn’t sure he wants to jump in with both feet.

  13. - Robert the Bruce - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:52 pm:

Strange statement. Didn’t give a good hint at why he might be a better choice than Kennedy or Pawar.

I’m still unclear as to why he’d be a better candidate using his own money vs. throwing all his money to Pawar or Bustos or Kennedy or his sister.

  14. - Ok - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:53 pm:

    Ow

You are all over the post critical of JB but your only political resume is confined in a comment section of a web blog. JB issued a statement and it’s on point. Calm down

  15. - HumpDay - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:56 pm:

Another Chicago billionaire with a non-statement. Way to distinguish from Rauner. Would love to see him become an R and run against Rauner in the primary. Dillard proved Rauner is beatable in a primary and he didn’t have a coordinated effort of D’s to pull R ballots until 4-6 weeks before the election. Once again time for a real downstate candidate representing average people to get into this race.

  16. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:56 pm:

===You are all over the post critical of JB but your only political resume is confined in a comment section of a web blog.===

That isn’t refuting my points, but good try, lol

    ===JB issued a statement and it’s on point.===

There was “no point” to it. It makes Pritzker’s Crew look as ridiculous as Rauner’s.

    There was no point.

If you’re so concerned about me, why go after me? LOL!

  17. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 12:58 pm:

    ===he’s out===

    Nah.

Long way to December filing deadline, man.

  18. - Ok - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:04 pm:

    Ow

I’m sure JB has more on his plate than sitting next to a keyboard all day on a web blog. This is way early in the game and you’re already expecting everything. Calm down bro.

  19. - A guy - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:04 pm:

The headline indicates that you were going to post a Statement from J.B. Is the statement coming? /s

  20. - Arsenal - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:05 pm:

This looks like an “in” to me. If he’s not running, no need to comment when someone else is, unless you’re endorsing them.

That being said, there’s no *good* reason to do this even if you are running. Kennedy announced. This is his day. You’ll get yours when you announce. Nothing to be gained from this.

  21. - Under Influenced... - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:10 pm:

==who wakes up every day thinking about improving the lives of working families and people all across Illinois.==

I wake up every day with eggs and bacon on my mind….this guy must be a go-getter! /s

  22. - WizzardOfOzzie - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:24 pm:

This is what you get from Becky Carroll and the best team money can buy? Kennedy just put the pressure on JB to explain why he should be in the race. Based on the coverage, Kennedy is explaining his rationale to every reporter in Chicago as we speak.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:24 pm:

===I’m sure JB has more on his plate than sitting next to a keyboard all day on a web blog.===

Your concern for me is underwhelming. If I don’t matter, why address me?

===This is way early in the game and you’re already expecting everything.===

Then why roll out this ignorance? This is terrible to the point of saying nothing, to nothing, about… nothing.

    ===Calm down bro.===

    Bro? LOL!

    You’re adorbs…

  24. - Winnin' - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:31 pm:

If JB gets in, he’ll have plenty to say.
Operative sentence: “I’ve listened to people throughout Illinois…”
What more is there to say until he decides?

  25. - PublicServant - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 1:39 pm:

Give him time to finish the statement guys. He’s on a pharmacist break now.

  26. - A.J. Hidell - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 2:23 pm:

It’s true! It’s true! The crown has made it clear.
The climate must be perfect all the year.
A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot.
And there’s a legal limit to the snow here
    In Camelot.
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
By order, summer lingers through September
    In Camelot.
    Camelot! Camelot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre,
    But in Camelot, Camelot
    That’s how conditions are.
The rain may never fall till after sundown.
By eight, the morning fog must disappear.
    In short, there’s simply not
    A more congenial spot
    For happily-ever-aftering than here
    In Camelot.
    Camelot! Camelot!
I know it gives a person pause,
    But in Camelot, Camelot
    Those are the legal laws.
The snow may never slush upon the hillside.
By nine p.m. the moonlight must appear.
    In short, there’s simply not
    A more congenial spot
    For happily-ever-aftering than here
    In Camelot.
    VOTE KENNEDY ‘18 !

  27. - Curious - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 2:49 pm:

“I have more money than Kennedy and don’t need to declare early.” - Pritzker

  28. - commonsense171 - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 3:22 pm:

Kennedy is trying to preempt the field. JB is telling everyone slow down. Plus there will be a host of others who want in because they think Rauner is so beatable. this will be fun

  29. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 3:49 pm:

    “Calm down, bro.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this may be the very first (approved) use of that word here. How special that you were
    the honored party, OW.

-Becky Carroll and the best team money can buy-

Now that’s a tempting sentence to deconstruct, but I’m going high and wishing for a reunion of the 3 Horsewomen of the Apocalypse, kids and all. Even though I think he’s out, Rich lol.

  30. - #mazesaid - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 3:59 pm:

Chris Kennedy has told Committeemen he expects them to raise money and work for him. JB is committed to $100 million of his own capital and willing to use it to help the Party. Kennedy will be out, Pritzker will be the Dem nominee. Kennedy announced because he has pump faked 100 times and needed to save face.

  31. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 4:06 pm:

    ===Kennedy will be out===

    Not today, “Nostradamus”, not today.

===Kennedy announced because he has pump faked 100 times and needed to save face.===

Doing slot of saving face; tv, rollout intro…

    lol, this was fun. Thanks.

  32. - JDuc - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 4:24 pm:

….I’m seriously considering running for Governor…..

    he’s still just deciding..

  33. - Rahm's Middle Finger - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 4:29 pm:

Maze… Kennedy ever announced before? Done dozens of interviews?

And Ken Dunkin is the voice of the average African American voter right?

  34. - Steve - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 4:30 pm:

The common touch from JB. Anyway, he’s not a guy to count out this election cycle.

  35. - Rabid - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 4:43 pm:

Catch me outside how about that

  36. - scott aster - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 5:31 pm:

Rich I wake up every morning and think about how the Dem Party has mismanaged the State of ILL and the City of Chicago for the past 14 years and JB and Kennedy want lay that on Rauner. Downstate will vote Rauner just like Trump….so it will be up to the city folks to get with it.

  37. - Princess Lisa - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 6:11 pm:

As much as I dislike the idea of Pritzker running for anything other than PTA, if it means Lisa Madigan won’t be a choice, I’m okay with anyone running.

  38. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 6:42 pm:

Long way to December is right. It’s not like he has to jump in early to raise money.

I suspect he was asked for a statement and just put out something generic.

If he goes, he’ll want his own day, say his own thing, and not just be reacting to Kennedy.

  39. - Property of IDOC - Wednesday, Feb 8, 17 @ 9:41 pm:
