Whacked
Friday, Feb 25, 2005 - Posted by Rich Miller It looks like everyone had this story today about the governor’s alleged meddling in the affairs of the supposedly independent Illinois Gaming Board, particularly through his fundraising chief, Chris Kelly. The Tribune editorializes: And here we thought Gov. I’m not surprised anymore. I’ll just give in. It’s not going to change so long as Blago’s in power, and I’m sure he’ll be re-relected.
Whatever. He and Carville have a good plan — so long as taxes aren’t raised, Balgo’s a no-brainer for a second term and a run for president.
I give up. This must be what folks felt like when Bush was governor. If the steamroller is big enough, it doesn’t matter.

Your analogy is off. Bush in Texas had approval ratings of 75 percent plus. Blago probably has never been above 55. He’s no sure bet for re-elect.

Blagojevich made his promise not to raise taxes…He didn’t say that he would not run the state into the ground so that the Legislature would have no choice but to put something on the table. If he can hold out long enough he might be able to put the blame on any tax increases on the Leg. He knows he can always keep blaming the deficit on Ryan…’06,07,08…
