From a press release: Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Ron Gidwitz today called on Judy Baar Topinka to give back the $276,000 in contributions she has accepted from vendors that hold more than $25,000 of state contracts with her office - contributions that would be banned under her new ethics plan. · The Dynamic Duo of Eric Krol and John Patterson have a new bloggy type thing called “Animal Farm.” Maybe the DH can pull some of the techies away from their apolitical Beep Central blog and add an RSS feed to Animal Farm. · Some political odds for your perusal. · So much for baseball in southern Illinois. That’s the big blast from Gidwitz, huh?
1. The Gidwitz press release is wrong on the amount of contracts, I’ll bet it’s not $25,000.
2. He admits she has put forth a plan that would bar such contributions, including her own, in the future, but it is senseless for her to unilaterally disarm, given what Blago has raised.
2. This is easy stuff for a rich guy to say. JBT has spent her life in public service, and doesn’t own any Picassos.
By the way, read your column, Rich. Very well done.

the SunTimes column was a breath of fresh air. It is about time the paper got a pro to cover the pols

Wow - I came on here to see what everyone thought about Judy’s ‘moron’ assessment. And guess what…few objected to it! But I guess a mea culpa on her part shortens the press’ attention to what is standard ’shoot from the hip’ Topinka. Which allows us to get on with it and listen to the Giddie attack machine. First, Oberfuhrer and now the ‘Ron and Steve’ show. They can’t win on their own merits, and have resorted to pulling down the front-runner by depicting her in any unfavorable light they can muster - even when it’s ludicrous. I’m so glad that the rich white guy who pours $5million of his own buckos into his campaign can now tell Judy to return campaign contributions totally one-fifth of that sum! Why doesn’t he return the $5mill to himself as well and we’ll really get money out of politics. He is beyond hypocritical. But that’s what ya see coming up on election day - insanity, right here in river city! Let’s all laugh a bit, cause we’re all gonna see some moronic bits in the coming days!

Is Korg a friend of Slim the Legman and Slats Grobnik?
- Rich Miller - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 2:04 pm:
SenorAnon, Korg is very real. Great big mean looking biker dude with a heart of gold.

Larry thinks John Kelly’s reports are bizarre — has he looked at Andy Martin’s? Cover page and copies of his bank statements. But just the list of checks paid — no copies, no vendors names, no way of knowing what it was for. What a mess.

too bad about the ball team, hope we can still get one down here

I long ago stopped paying attention to anything Andy Martin does, but good point.

Very cool. I dig the name Korg - and the column.

I always had doubts that the Silverhawks would actually move from South Bend to Marion. I could never imagine why so much public money was being spent on a stadium without having a team locked into a committment to play in it. But add Blagojevich to the equation and you see once again the state throws good money after bad.

Oh Rich, say it ain’t so…
“…the story had more holes in it than a Dunkin’ Donuts shop…”

So Brady has received the sole endorsement of both the ISRA and The Illinois Citizens for Life. Both are major Grassroots groups of the Republican party. But he’s the one that doesn’t seem to be the front runner; go figure.

Meeks can’t run as an independent??? He can start a new party though. For a new party, he can start circulating petitions on March 28. And the filing dates for them are June 19-26. I got all this from elections.il.gov website in the candidates handbook. Isn’t the Illinois loophole system just great…
