This just in… Shelden will walk out on Oby speech
Friday, Mar 10, 2006 - Posted by Rich Miller Republican Champaign County Clerk Mark Shelden has just announced at the IlliniPundit blog that he will walk out on Jim Oberweis’ speech today at the Champaign GOP Lincoln dinner.
He adds that he hopes “more than a few” will join him. I’ll bet the comments over there get interesting today. UPDATE: Ron Gidwitz’s campaign is hyping a big press conference this afternoon about allegations involving Topinka. Stay tuned here for more

Amen!
- Colt 45 - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 9:01 am:
good.
- Randall Sherman - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 9:02 am:
Funny, but I was under the impression that Lincoln Day Dinners were to be held in February, the month of Lincoln’s Birthday.
- Lovie's Leather - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 9:02 am:
Don’t blame him. When you attack JBT so fiercly, you deserve to be walked out on. I am no Topinka fan, but he has crossed the line and pissed me off good. Maybe when he runs for Senate in ‘08 he’ll find something credible to critique opponents on… but I wouldn’t count on it…
- Rich Miller - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 9:06 am:
Randall, the dinners are held throughout the year. No way could the statewides attend all those county dinners in one month.
- Mr. ANON - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 9:26 am:
That way Mark can spend more time in the office thinking of ways to keep students from voting. Bet the early voting scene is real sweet over there.

It would be well worth the drive and the price of the ticket to sit there just to walk out on Milk dufus. Everyone all across Illinois needs to gather all of his signs after the primary and mail them back to Aurora with signed letter saying never run for state wide office again. His supporters are so lame they have to purposely put their signs directly in front of the other candidates. They also just randomly drop these signs EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE; and do you think that those A!!HOLES will come and clean them up on March 22nd NO! So all of us precinct committeemen and women get to spend the next week cleaning up all of their trash so the taxpayers of IL don’t foot the bill, because I DOT has to clean them up. Jim or his supports if you read this, I hope you lose and lose horribly and then come clean up your trash that litters the road sides!!!!!!!!!!!!

I walked out on Oberweis a long time ago.
- VanillaMan - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 10:26 am:
Can someone please give this guy a hug now and then? I’m just speaking for myself, but he seems so needy, running for office whenever he can, spending his family fortune. What’s he trying to prove? Someone needs to show him the “Love Wanted” section of the alternative weeklies, he can find love with a stranger at a much reduced cost than running for office.
- anon - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 10:31 am:
I hope half the room joins in on walking out on him. However, even if they do…things like that only seem to encourage Oberweis not upset him, he is a weird guy.
As for Gidwitz, how good can the info be if he is having a Friday Afternoon press conference.
- UrbanaGOP - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 10:33 am:
I’m planning to walk out on Sandy Weegman when she bashes Bob Kustra.
- Schitznitz - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 10:37 am:
Sadly, I walked out on Obie after his Senate run. I thought he would be a mature business leader with some civic sense. Instead, he turned out to be a rich guy who just wanted a powerful job.
I’m also halfway out the door on Gidwitz. He is beginning to cross the line.
- heet101 - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 1:26 pm:
Apparently Gidwitz will be speaking about Topinka’s ethics proposal today and some inconsistencies between her proposal and some campaign contributions she has taken with companies doing business with the Treasurer’s office.

“Someone needs to show him the “Love Wanted†section of the alternative weeklies, he can find love with a stranger at a much reduced cost than running for office.”
From what I read, the boy’s getting married. Earlier in the week, I saw something that said a TV Show will be coming on next week about Looserweis. He was saying that he got divorced 4 years ago and now is engaged to be married.
It makes me wonder about some women. First Judy and supposedly Kovarik and now this.
I hope Mark does walk out proudly, but hopefully he’ll wait until the applause dies down and it’s quiet. That would make a bigger statement. Hopefully when Looserweis gets up, the NCAA will not have done the Mid-west regional yet.
- ET - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 2:15 pm:
Obviously Mr Shelden speakes for thousands of Illinoisans who are much more interested in the brackets and where our state’s teams will be playing than anything obie has to say.
- anon - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 4:10 pm:
Oby is just seems a glutten for punishment. He really thinks he can win. ???? Amen to Mark Shelden !!! & I hope he encourages others to join him. Maybe then Oberweis with the embarrasment of it all will finally get the picture…quit man & go back to Aurora. Enough is enough !!!!! Oby we “Ain’t interested” !!!!!!!!!!
- scoot - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 5:17 pm:
Get yer free ice-cream flyer before you walk out!
Here’s something scary….a COX-OBERWEIS TICKET IN 08′-on that note have a good weekend. Rich , nice work in the Sun-Times, I hope to read more.
- Frustrated Republican - Friday, Mar 10, 06 @ 9:10 pm:
I guess this announcement means it would be an action of “spontaneousness”!
From the Tribune story on the “morons” comment:
“That spontaneousness was something I appreciated when she was running for treasurer,” Oberweis said.
“Spontaneaousness”??????????????
Is this some kind of Joe Wiegand strategery?
- Tim Johnson's Dashboard - Saturday, Mar 11, 06 @ 9:57 am:
Mark Sheldon, paragon of virtue, waxing eloquent about the need for righteousness and dignity in the face of true evil…oh, were we talking about Tim Johnson or Oberweis?
- Anonymous - Saturday, Mar 11, 06 @ 10:26 am:
Those Topinka people like Sheldon are so divisive. They really hurt the Party.
- Champaigner - Saturday, Mar 11, 06 @ 9:54 pm:
Mr. Shelden shouldn’t throw stones in a glass house. He’s been an A-1 smear merchant in Champaign County for a long time. The only difference is that he’s smart enough not to attach his name to the nasty political attacks, but the insiders in the GOP already knew this and that is partly the reason they walked out on Shelden and instead supported Judy Myers to run for State Senate in the 52nd State Senate District.
