Madigan: Umholz has been “very nice”
Thursday, Sep 28, 2006 - Posted by Rich Miller This little nugget was buried way down in the piece but is more than just a little bizarre. During an appearance Wednesday in front of the Peoria Journal Star editorial board, [Attorney General Lisa] Madigan also was asked about her campaign’s investigation into [Republican opponent Stu] Umholtz’s office. This summer, a Democratic Party staffer requested documents from the Tazewell County state’s attorney’s office. I wonder if Umholz realizes that Madigan’s statement makes him look like a tool.

Madigan’s statements don’t make Umholz look like a tool. Umholz looks like a tool because he is a tool — of the GOP. The last thing the Republican Party wanted to do was put up a credible campaign against Lisa Madigan and encourage Mike Madigan to put on a full court press like he did in 2002 to turn out Democrats all over the state.

You mean, you wonder if Umholz realizes that the way Madigan’s statement was reported, makes him look like a tool.
No, he doesn’t, by the way.

Makes Stuie look like a tool, yep… but makes Madigan look Machiavellian.. kind of like the White Witch in Narnia… “be a good little boy, Stuie, and we won’t have to use all of those nasty things!”

Rich–stop trying to throw gasoline on a fire. Stu can’t win. No reason to have the poor guy go out on a limb just cause you need something to write about. Knock it off.

Just call him Stanley from now on. Tools are good for “fixing” things.

Madigan shrugged her shoulders, smiled and said, “Stu’s been very nice, and we hope none of that has to be used.â€
Is the Illinois Attorney General ignoring and covering corruption in a States Attorney’s office for political reasons and blackmaleing the State’s Attorney with the information for political reasons?
WOW—-Government Corruption is at it’s worst

The previous commenters have assumed that the supposed hidden information deals with some sort of criminal action within the office of the Tazewell County State’s Attorney. However it is possible that Attorney General Madigan was implying that she hoped it would not be neccessary to reveal information showing how much of a mope Umholtz is (in part because that assessment is pretty evident already).

Come on, people. Her campaign was doing run-of-the-mill political opposition research. It wasn’t her state office.

My God, she’s become her dad.

It appears that Ms. Powerbroker is keeping a little black book of fun information out of the public spotlight.
Makes you wonder what “goods” she’s holding over the governor’s office…

YDD has it exactly correct. Stu is a tool-of the hopeless GOP. Big deal.

Wait a minute…there’s a Republican nominee for attorney general? That’s news to me!

Lisa did not do a very good job of “thinking” before speaking. About the time we get to believing that here is “finally” a political type that is above the normal political mud smearing that we have come to expect in Illinois politics, Lisa comes out with a “dumb statement” like this one. “What was she thinking of?”
I assume her implication is that Stu Umholtz is guilty of improprieties in his political office? That is how most reasonable people would interpret her statement. This statement “boomerangs” on Lisa Madigan because it also implies that she is withholding pertinent information on Stu or his office for her own political devices. I think Lisa is a decent individual that has been hanging around too many of the other political low lifes recently. Their character flaws seem to perhaps be rubbing off on her.
