Vermont?

…By the way, I’m told by a reporter who interviewed the governor last week that Blagojevich hadn’t ever heard of The Simpson’s TV show.

Question of the day
Tuesday, Jul 10, 2007 - Posted by Rich Miller How do you think the current budget logjam should be… um… unjammed? Explain fully. …Notice that I asked “should” not “would” or “will.”

Sun-Times has had enough
Tuesday, Jul 10, 2007 - Posted by Rich Miller * The Sun-Times editorial board published a diatribe against the governor today. Go read the whole thing…
[Emphasis added.] * Speaker Madigan had some harsh words as well yesterday…
* And this is the next point of contention…
* Meanwhile, the State Journal-Register editorial board tackles the issue of the governor’s sanity…
And then blames the governor’s inner circle for the problem…
I created the “Where’s Tusk When We Need Him?” buttons as a joke. What’s become evident since Tusk’s departure is that while Tusk might have done a slightly better job of reining in the governor, the real problem is the governor, not his staff. * More budget stories, compiled by Paul…
* Audio from the postgame show yesterday…

Backfire *** Updated x1 ***
Tuesday, Jul 10, 2007 - Posted by Rich Miller * Mark Brown’s column says it all today. I’m going to excerpt more than I’m really supposed to because it’s so good…
And he closes with…
* Brown also reported that Blagojevich didn’t try to help pass the gun bill during the regular session or since then, which makes this comment by House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, a gun control supporter, in an AP story worth noting…
* Rep. John Bradley put his finger on what the governor is really trying to do here…
*** UPDATE *** The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform notes that, unlike the gun bill, a wide-ranging ethics bill which already passed the House has 45 co-sponsors in the Senate - way more than enough to pass. The ICPR rightly notes that the ethics bill “hasn’t even been assigned to a committee in the Senate”…

New poll
Tuesday, Jul 10, 2007 - Posted by Rich Miller Bill Foster’s campaign has been trying to convince me (and I assume others) to write about his potential congressional bid for the past several days. I’ve been a bit busy with this overtime session, but Lynn Sweet has a piece today about a new poll in the district. Foster is a wealthy Democrat who claims he will spend a million dollars of his own money on just the primary race to decide which Democrat will replace (or challenge) Congressman Denny Hastert, the former US House Speaker. Hastert is expected to announce soon whether he will run again. Anyway, Foster’s campaign has a new poll. Sweet has some results…
Interesting. And check this out…
Bush’s unfavorables are higher in a Republican district than Blagojevich’s? Wow. Thoughts?
